The southern end of Ryogaemachi-dori This building is the Fumitsubaki Building a wooden Western-style building built in 1920 It was originally the headquarters of a trading company but now it is a building housing various tenants This street is Sanjo-dori In the late Heian period this place was the site of a large mansion belonging to the Fujiwara clan [00:01:25 .37] The Fujiwara clan donated the mansion to Emperor Toba and it was used as an imperial palace It is currently a Kyoto yuzen shop called Chiso When I say "present," I mean that it is a long-established shop that was founded in this location in 1555 This is the east side and you can see Karasuma-dori Let’s start Let’s get started New banknotes were issued the other day Have you seen the new banknotes yet? On the street where we are walking today there used to be a facility called Kinza and Ginza that produced gold coins (koban) and silver coins during the Edo period At that time I’d like to see what the area where Kinza and Ginza used to be looks like now The building in the foreground on the right is the NHK Kyoto Broadcasting Station For some reason this channel NHK often comes up I guess NHK is building their station in a good place There’s no traffic light so we’ll have to take a detour [00:03:19.46] [00:03:39.33]The previous building was the headquarters of an apparel company called Italiad The large monument is said to represent the sun Unfortunately the company went bankrupt but the impressive building and monument remain There is a small monument next to the building In the early Muromachi period (Nanboku-cho period) the Nijo family’s mansion was located here [00:03:5 7.16] Inside the mansion was a famous garden called Ryuyakuchi Pond Now there is no trace of the garden and it has been turned into a convenience store Returning to Ryogaemachi-dori we arrived at the site of Kinza Ginza which gave the street its name Ginza was built here in 1608 during the Edo period [00:04:37.16] Ginza is a mint for silver coins (chogin and kodamagin) The name of the well which I couldn’t find out even after researching seems to be Tatsunoi If it’s a well from the Edo period that would be romantic I wonder if it’s used for emergencies in disasters or for firefighting since it’s in front of the fire brigade It’s also from the Ryuyaku Pond mentioned earlier However there used to be a Nijo family mansion here During the Sengoku period Oda Nobunaga liked this mansion and used it Later Nobunaga presented it to Emperor Ogimachi’s Crown Prince Prince Sanehito During the Honnoji Incident Oda Nobunaga’s son Oda Nobutada was killed by Akechi Mitsuhide here Unfortunately at that time The Nijo family’s mansion was also burned down This monument indicates that the Nijo family’s mansion (Nijo Palace) was located here Next is the site of the gold mint The gold mint was built here in 1600 (Keicho 5) shortly before the Edo period The gold mint was a place where gold coins (koban and ichibuban) were minted [00:0 5:43.26] Kinza was built first then Ginza In the mid-Edo period casting of both Kinza and Ginza stopped and they started to be made in Edo Kyoto International Manga Museum The former site of Kinza and Ginza is now a manga museum called Kyoto International Manga Museum A very popular museum Apparently many foreign visitors come here just for the purpose Before it became the Kyoto International Manga Museum it was an elementary school called Kyoto Municipal Tatsuike Elementary School Due to a decrease in the number of students the school was consolidated and closed in 1995 The name Tatsuike Elementary School seems to have something to do with Ryuyaku Pond I wonder? If so that’s a nice name Even if you’re not interested in manga why not visit once? There was a Noh stage in the middle of town like this Touseian Noh Stage Part of the home of Kanze school Noh actor Aoki Michiyoshi This is the Noh stage that was used It was built in 1960 by Aoki Shojiro the father of Aoki Michiyoshi It is said to be the most accessible stage in Japan where you can see Noh I was surprised to find a Noh stage in a place like this What! Another Noh stage? Kashokaku Noh Theater This is a Noh theater built in 1961 The building has a wonderful exterior and I can’t believe there’s a Noh stage inside I was surprised to see a Noh stage in such a downtown area Maybe it’s because it’s near the Imperial Palace We arrived at the northern end of Ryogaemachi-dori [00:10:3 7.51]The north end of Ryogaemachi-dori This is Marutamachi-dori What you can see ahead is Kyoto Gyoen where the Kyoto Imperial Palace is located Roadside Gourmet Today’s roadside gourmet is this restaurant attached to the Kyoto International Manga Museum Inside the restaurant On the wall? ? ? Manga artists who visited the store left their characters and signatures on the walls If you look around slowly you might find a picture and signature of your favorite manga artist It’s Anpanman! Drink menu Food menu Lunch set There was also shaved ice I ordered the lunch set [00:12:39.54 ]For the main course I ordered their famous Neapolitan spaghetti It comes with a salad and a drink For the drink I ordered an iced cafe latte The Neapolitan had the taste of a nostalgic coffee shop It was delicious

Hello everyone
Thank you for watching Cycle Panda ch.
In this video, we will take you through the streets of Kyoto,
which are said to be shaped like a checkerboard.
I ride my bike (and walk where I can’t) at a leisurely pace.
I hope to be able to show you around the city along the way.
Please take your time to take a look.

Ryogaemachi-dori
A north-south street in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City.
The road was built as part of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Tensho land division.
During the Muromachi period, the Nijo family’s residence was located exactly halfway down this road.
Later, in the early Edo period, Tokugawa Ieyasu created Kinza and Ginza.
Kinza and Ginza were like the current Mint Bureau and Printing Bureau, and were Kyoto’s financial districts.
As a result, this street was given the name Ryogaemachi.
So what does that financial district look like now?

Thank you for watching.
With this, Ryougaemachi-dori Pottering will end.
Thank you for watching this video,
I would be happy if you could learn about a side of Kyoto that you don’t know about.
We look forward to seeing you again in the next video.
