幼児教育と高齢者の認知症予防に役立つ日本の計算機。玉は樺、拓殖、枠は黒檀などの堅くて重い天然木を用いる。玉の大きさの均一性、玉穴の正確性などに高い技術を誇り、計算に求められる玉の正確な動きや正しい位置で止まるなどの機能が伝統の技から生み出されている。
It is a Japanese calculator that is useful for early childhood education and prevention of dementia in elderly people.
Dense hardwoods such as ebony are used for the frame, while boxwood and birch are used for the beads. The smooth operation of these abacuses is one of their special features, but the fineness and delicacy of the pieces are what makes them works of art. The craftspeople of the Banshu abacuses have great skill in the cutting of the beads, because those beads need to be moved accurately. The product’s great functional capability is hidden in the beauty of its simplicity.

This abacus is such a beautiful thing – compare them to an electronic calculator!!! The process of putting the beads on the stick looked unreal!! Just by moving the frame around in the box of beads and they were all in place!!!! Thank you for showing us this.
