日光杉並木街道 キャンプ場周辺散策レポート
A report from a long time ago when I took a bicycle tour around a campsite that
wasn’t always full of bonfires
2024.04
Hello,
the cedar-lined road in Nikko that
reminds me of only bonfires.
This video shows the route on the way to a campsite in Nikko City.
This road is not the Nikko Highway, but the road to the right.
I once cycled along the Nikko Cedar Avenue.
It was an incredibly long time ago in 2019 (at most 5 years ago), but
I used up a lot of physical strength on sections like this road.
It’s a gradual climb up to Nikko, but
the sidewalk and bicycle road on the left has a lot of steps, so
every time the road crosses, I have to get off and climb up again.
The first time, I gave up halfway through.
I’m going to show you some slides now.
The slides are about running on the Nikko Highway, so they have no relation to the video you are currently running.
Please avoid any misunderstandings.
This is a 2019 photo, so it may have changed in appearance since then. Please pardon.
Nikko Cedar Avenue
This shows the starting point
of the Nikko Cedar Avenue Special Protection Area .
This is the shape of a road that has been greatly worn out. I have had the experience of giving up and turning back.
Multi-unit water wheel
“This water wheel has a diameter of 4 m 50 cm and a width of 80 cm, and
has two water wheels of the same size attached 2 m apart. It
is also possible to increase the power
by installing two water turbines in one place .
The Hishino Triple Water Turbine in Fukuoka Prefecture
is famous
as a double water turbine.
It’s a nice place to take a break in the shade of a tree, but
when I ate my bento (Seven Onigiri) on the way and
got up to go, my legs started cramping up.
Is this area lined with cherry blossom trees? Not blooming. I’m sorry.
There is an old Nikko Kaido road that runs parallel to one of the public
roads .
It is now closed to traffic due to the deterioration of the cedar trees.
If you decide to turn back, you will be running the same distance as before, so
you need to make a quick decision with that in mind.
On the way back, I’m going downhill (^^)
Cannonball firing This
is the former Shogunate army’s position during the Sugi-Boshin War.
There are
scars left on the cedar from cannonballs fired by the government army
. The way back was a continuous descent.
Just apply the brakes,
don’t pedal at all.
Namiki Taro This
is the largest cedar among the Shichiri Namiki in Nikko City, with a circumference of
5.35 meters, a tree height of 38 meters, and a timber volume of 33.5 cubic meters. It
is worthy of being called
Namiki Taro due to its beautiful and neat appearance.
It is a famous tree.”
You can return faster than you can imagine.
It took less than 15 minutes at a speed of over 40km/h. (It took well over 3 hours to get there)
The feeling of cutting through the wind with your own strength and flying through the sky is irresistible!!
Ijin Stone
This stone was created by a foreigner who loved the cedar trees during the Meiji period.
He asked a stone maker to make it easier for him to sit on, and
he used to admire the cedar trees every day, which is why it
is called "Ijin-ishi".
It would have been better if I had taken the Nikko Highway. If the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, things wouldn’t go smoothly.
Shinkyo
Bridge is 28 meters long, 7.4 meters wide, and
10.6 meters high (from the water surface), with
10 main pillars built on the railing, each
decorated with an imitation jewel (milk tree). The back of the board
is painted black lacquer, and the rest is painted vermilion.
Nikkosan Rinnoji Temple Nikkosan
was founded by Shodo Shonin
, and during the Heian and Kamakura periods
it flourished as one of the major sacred sites in the Kanto region, and during the Edo period it was used as Toshogu Shrine by Lord Ieyasu
and Daijuin Temple by Lord Iemitsu. A mausoleum is built and it is covered.
Although it was separated during the Meiji period, it
is collectively referred to as Rinno-ji Temple.
By the way,
how about a bicycle? Why not experience the feeling of dancing in the sky?
Also, since you’re riding a bicycle,
you can turn around quickly and find spots like this.
Even if it’s a sports bike, if it’s just for pottering around, it
will look like everyday wear and is reasonably priced.
(You will need some appropriate clothing.)
Personally, the route from Nikko to Fukushima has been delayed.
I’m thinking of starting it soon.
(Maybe I can’t do it anymore at this age!?)
Thank you for watching until the end.
