Cycling Shimanto River in Japan | Kochi | 四万十川でサイクリング
Hello! I’m a beginner in cycling, but I love nature, so We went on a cyclingaround the Shimanto River in Kochi Prefecture. On the first day, We rent a bicycle at Sukumo Station, so I will stay at Manabe Ryokan near Sukumo Station. I rented a bicycle from the tourist association at the station.
From Sukumo Station to Nakamura Station is 26 kilometers. As a beginner, the distance was too long for me, so I transported my bicycle from Nakamura Station to Kubokawa Station. In the Shimanto River, known for its numerous low-water bridges, there are a total of 47, including those on its tributaries.
“Michi-no-Eki” is a rest area with parking facilities primarily catering to long-distance drivers. They are found throughout Japan. You can purchase local specialties and fresh vegetables, among other items. On the third day, we went to Nakamura Station via this route.
On the way back, I borrowed a bicycle transport bag and traveled from Nakamura Station to Sukumo Station. We returned the bicycle, so I headed to Kochi Station on the same day. Kochi Station has a statue of Ryoma Sakamoto. On the final day, we visited Kochi Castle. For lunch, we went to Hirome Market.

The beautiful Shimanto River, known as Japan’s last pristine stream.I went on a cycling trip to the Shimanto River for 3 days and 4 nights in March, 2022.I rented a bicycle at the Sukumo Station tourist association and cycled around the Shimanto River from Nakamura Station to Kubokawa Station, then to Towa Onsen, and back to Nakamura Station.
