Ghost Story based on true events
There is a man named M r.Ueno, who always gives me mysterious stories, and he told me that he heard this story when he joined a motorcycle touring club and was hanging out with his friends at a motorcycle shop.
There, an officer of the club, a man over 60 years old named Mr.Ota came in on a Harley. As Mr.Ota entered the store to have a smoke, he suddenly said to Mr.Ueno, as of remembering something, “It’s been 10 years since Goto passed away at Atagoyama.”
The deceased Mr.Goto had been a member of the touring club since its pioneer days, and owned an Italian-made motorcycle, a Docatei and a Kawasaki.
He was a well-known rider among his motorcycle friends who had forced his Italian-made bike to have a sidecar attached to it, and every time he wanted to pass the vehicle inspection, he had to separate the bike from the sidecar to pass.
One day, his club mates were planning n autumn touring trip, had decided on a destination, and were making various arrangements. It was during this time that they received information that Mr.Goto had been in a motorcycle accident on Atagoyama.
The scene of the accident was a mountain pass stretching from side of Kaizenkouji in Kofu City to the Takeda Shrine in the north, where a curve winds its way around Atagoyama. It was a winding pass that was perfect for motorists to attack.
It was also a road where accidents involving four-wheeled vehicles and motorcycles were a problem in Yamanashi Prefecture. It was late at night when Mr.Goto had his accident. He was riding his beloved Kawasaki on the Atagoyama Line from the Takeda Shrine side.
There was a sharp curve on the Atagoyama Line, commonly known as the “Great Curve of Deformed Bicycles”. When going around the sharp curve, Mr.Goto was using a hang-on technique, in which he balanced his body’s center of gravity in the direction of the curve instead of using a weight.
In doing so, he lost his balance and slammed into a guardrail, wrecking his motorcycle and knocking him to the ground. He was immediately carried to the local prefectural central Hospital, and club members and friends immediately rushed to the hospital.
When the members arrived at the hospital, Mr.Goto was already in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest and was not expected to survive. Soon after, Mr.Goto breathed his last and a funeral service was held. Many people, including his touring buddies and friends who had been in a music band before his death, mourned the deceased.
It was a while after the 49th day had passed, and the bones had been laid. Since Mr.Goto’s accident, the touring club had temporarily refrained from its activities, but they decided to resume them, and the roar of motorcycles resumed in the Kanto area, Wakayama, and as far away as Sado and Akita.
However, in the midst of all this, a strange rumor began to circulate among the members of the touring club. It was a rumor that they had seen Mr.Goto, who was supposed to have passed away.
Before his death, Mr.Goto always wore a red one piece rider jacket and rode his beloved Italian motorcycle or Kawasaki. He was wearing that usual red jacket on the day of the accident. Sometimes he would wear separates, but the red rider jacket had become trademark.
One late night, when Mr.A, a fellow touring friend, returned from an outing and arrived just in front of his house, he heard the familiar sound of a motorcycle engine coming from somewhere. Then he saw a man wearing a red rider’s jacket and riding a Kawasaki coming toward him.
Mr.A had a huff and thought for a moment, “Is that Mr.Goto?” But when he thought about it, there was no way that could be him. Then, the Kawasaki motorcycle with the rider in the red jacket drove past Mr.A’s house. Mr.A could not believe his eyes, it was definitely Mr.Goto.
There is another fellow touring companion, Mr.B, who was good friends with Mr.Goto before his death. Whenever Mr.Goto visited Mr.B’s house, he always entered through his garage, not through the front door. One evening at dusk, while Mr.B was tinkering with his motorcycle in his garage, he suddenly felt someone’s presence behind him.
When he turned around, he saw a rider wearing red jacket and a helmet standing by the garage. Mr.B gasped. The red jacket was the one Mr.Goto was wearing at the time of the accident, and although the helmet obscured his face, there was no doubt that it was Mr.Goto.
Needless to say, this rumor spread quickly. At this stage, however, most people were only half-convinced that they had seen Mr.Goto’s ghost, and it was still just a rumor. It was not long after that. Something strange happened again. This time, however it happened to someone other than the members.
Before his death, Mr.Goto had attached a traffic safety talisman to his ignition key. It was an amulet with a bell attached that came in a clear plastic cell. Therefore, when Mr.Goto touched the key, he heard the tinkling of the bell. It was also that night.
It happened to the wife of a touring companion at his home. She had just gotten out of the Batu, changed and stood in front of the bathroom mirror. She heard the sound of the bell tinkling over her shoulder.
“What was that sound?” She was started and immediately looked at her reflection behind her in the mirror. There was a ride wearing a black helmet and a red jacket. The wife was so terrified that she couldn’t speak and her body went rigid.
After this incident, which happened not to a member but to his family, the rumor was no longer a rumor, and Mr.Goto’s ghost story turned into a fear and threat. This touring club was a large group of motorcycle riders from Harley, BMW, Docateye, Triumph, and other large-displacement motorcycles from overseas,
As well as Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, and other motorcycles, making up the team. The team was eiders from various industries, professions, ages and genders, and they were all in a state of trepidation because of Mr.Goto’s ghost case.
One of the members of the club was a priest of a Shinto shrine, and he performed a memorial service for Mr.Goto as well as praying for the safety of the club. Mr.Ota told Mr.Ueno the whole story up to this point at the motorcycle shop.
According to Mr.Ota, Mr.Goto’s ghost stopped appearing after that, but Mr.Ueno suddenly became concerned about Mr.Ota’s behavior while he was listening to the story. As Mr.Ota was recounting this story, there were occasional moments when his words would pause for a moment and
His face would tense as he looked outside at the Koshu Kaido road stretching from east to west. Mr.Ueno did not dare to confirm whether he had seen a rider in a similar red jacket riding down the street, as they say, or whether, even now, Mr.Goto’s ghost sometime appears before him.
