Only about 1,700 people live on this island, yet it’s officially part of Tokyo. Kozushima is pretty easy to reach:
✈️ 45 min by small plane from Chofu Airport
⛴ about 3.5 hrs by high-speed ferry from Takeshiba Port
Small enough to explore by bike, but even 4 days wasn’t enough. Here’s my Kozushima mini guide:
Where to Stay:
📍Vacation House FamiliA(みんなの別荘ファミリア)
A cozy lodge with homemade bread for breakfast.
Aya and Ken speak English and can assist with ferry bookings, bicycle rentals, and restaurant reservations. Something to note, as meals on the island often require booking. The moon shot in the reel was actually taken through the telescope on the balcony, so you can enjoy the night sky without leaving your room.
Where to Eat:
📍Aged-Fish Sushi BAR(神津島 熟成魚工房 / 熟成魚寿司BAR)
Instead of serving fish fresh, the chef ages it, some for weeks, bringing out deeper flavor and umami. The taste was mind-blowing!
📍Sawaya Cordon Bleu(さわやコルドンブルー)
A French-trained master from Kyoto. You can often find him fishing at the port, then cooking your fresh catch in a French style.
📍Oyado & Cafe NORA(おやど&カフェ のら)
The best ramen I’ve had in a while, iwa-nori ramen(岩海苔ラーメン), topped with wild rock seaweed.
Things to Do:
📍Akasaki Boardwalk(赤崎遊歩道) – a wooden promenade built over the sea
📍Senryo Pond(千両池) – hidden natural pool after a short hike
📍Mt. Tenjo Hike(天上山) – flat volcano with 360° Pacific views
📍Kozushima Onsen Wellness Center(神津島温泉保養センター) – mixed outdoor hot spring facing the sunset
📍Tako bay, Miura port (多幸湾三浦港) – peaceful spot to watch waves
📍Takou Spring(多幸湧水) – one of Tokyo’s “Top 57 Famous Natural Springs”
If you’re planning a visit, feel free to ask me anything.
I’d be happy to help you explore this island 🙂↕️
