Kurashiki in October is a wonderful place 🌸🚴

Ditch the busy tourist crowds and join me for a peaceful 20-minute cycle through the hidden countryside and picturesque riversides of Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan! 🌸🚴

I rented a fantastic Panasonic E-Bike for the day for just ¥500 (approx. $3.25 USD) and took it on an incredible loop that combines historical riverside charm with scenic rural backroads. Rented from the Tourist Rest Area 倉敷市観光休憩所 next to the Natural History Museum.

I initially planned to follow the official Kurashiki-Tamano Seaside Route for a bit, but after careful study, I decided to ignore some sections that ran along busy roads. Instead, I crafted my own perfect, quiet route—and you can follow it too!

My 5-Step Countryside Cycling Loop:

Kurashiki River: Starting the ride alongside the iconic weeping willows and white-walled storehouses of the Bikan Historical Quarter.

Route 21 Cycleway: Transitioning onto the official cycle path along Route 21, whilst this was a dedicated cyclepath, you could skip it to do a 20km ride.

Rokken River (RHS): Sticking to the right-hand side of the river was the way to find car free roads. Parts of this ride through the rice fields was my favourite scenery in Japan.

Komachi Tunnel (Under Mukoyama Park): My secret shortcut! A great ride through a dedicated pedestrian/cycle tunnel that connects the river path directly to my next leg.

Reverse up the Kurashiki River: A final km or 2 towards the city center.

🚲 E-Bike & Logistics:

The Machine: A reliable Japanese-made Panasonic E-Bike all be it with a low ride seat setup that isnt suited for 4 hours riding but is very comfortable for exploring.

Battery Life: Plenty of juice! The battery was easily good for the advertised 40km, leaving me with power to spare. It might have done 55km but it was so hot, my feet blistered inside my sports shoes.

Rental: I hired my bike from a travel agency located right near the old museum in Kurashiki. I strongly recommend contacting them first to find out about bike rentals.!

I used the Kansai Wide Area pass to catch Shinkansen and local trains from Osaka Airport.

🚲 Eバイク＆ロジスティクス:

車両： 日本製の信頼できるパナソニック Eバイク。サドル位置が低く、4時間のライディングには不向きですが、街の散策にはとても快適です。

バッテリー寿命： 十分な電力！バッテリーは公称の40kmを楽に持ち、まだ余裕がありました。55kmは行けたかもしれませんが、あまりに暑く、スポーツシューズの中で足に水ぶくれができてしまいました。

レンタル： 倉敷の古い美術館のすぐ近くにある旅行代理店でレンタルしました。バイクレンタルの詳細については、まず先に連絡することをお勧めします！

アクセス： 私は関西ワイドエリアパスを使って、大阪空港から新幹線と在来線で来ました。
