Yesterday was my ✨lucky✨ day in Kanazawa 🇯🇵

Yesterday, I had one of those small but magical Kanazawa moments 💛

Out of hundreds of the usual green Machinori bikes around the city, I somehow spotted a gold one. I later learned it’s called “Hakunori”, and there are only a handful of them mixed into the bike-share fleet, about 5 gold bikes among roughly 500 Machinori bicycles.

Of course I had to ride it. So for a few hours yesterday, I explored Kanazawa on a bike literally covered in gold leaf.

It’s a fun little detail that also reflects something much bigger about the city. Kanazawa produces over 99% of Japan’s gold leaf, and this centuries-old craft is still part of everyday life here, from temples and crafts to, apparently… bicycles.

So if you ever see a golden Machinori bike around the city, consider yourself lucky. I definitely did yesterday 💛

昨日、金沢でちょっとした“ラッキーな瞬間”がありました💛

街中にある緑色のシェアサイクル「まちのり」がたくさん並ぶ中で、なんと金色の自転車を発見。後で知ったのですが、これは「はくのり」と呼ばれている特別な自転車で、約500台あるまちのりの中にわずか5台ほどしかないそうです。

もちろん見つけたからには乗らないわけにはいかないですよね。昨日は数時間、この金箔の自転車で金沢の街を走ってみました。

実はこれ、ちょっとした遊び心だけではなく、金沢らしさを感じられる取り組みでもあります。金沢は日本の金箔の99%以上を生産する町で、その伝統は今でも寺社や工芸品、そして…自転車にまで使われているんです。

もし金沢の街でこの金色のまちのりを見かけたら、それはかなりラッキーかもしれません。
少なくとも、昨日の私はそうでした💛
