Vietcong vs Gunships: Real Combat Archives
From the mighty B-52 bombing runs over the north to gunship strikes against the Vietcong guerrillas, it spanned almost every type of mission and an extraordinary range of aircraft.
It was also the most filmed war ever and this documentary uses the pick of the combat footage to tell the full story, from the first U.S. advisor missions in the early 1960s to the massive and sustained operations a few years later.
The U.S. footage is mirrored by that from North Vietnamese sources, which shows their anti-aircraft defences in action and the effects of the U.S. bombing.

Holy crap could you imagine being an attack pilot and every single time you climb into that plane could be your last…true alpha swagger like "ain't noone else gunna do it" those guys must be hell on wheels 24/7
I wonder if the VNAF encountered any North Vietnamese helicopters….
57:24 "against an enemy ill equipped with anti-aircraft guns". Ill equipped with anti-aircraft guns?!? ARE YOU FKNG SERIOUS?!? They had some of the best anti-aircraft defenses available IN THE WORLD at the time. And A LOT of them. Wow…..
Edit- "It is highly unlikely that such a one sided war, in the air, on such a scale, will ever be fought again"……jumps ahead 16 years to Iraq….😕

Uh, the US didn't lose that war. Every objective was achieved. But, also, Air Cav! Ride or die bitch!☠

39:25 I thought they dropped a dunny.
Seeing such terrifying firepower, I admire even more the Vietnamese soldiers who fought and won against the American army and their allies!!!
Agent Orange was pure chemical warfare and the residual effects are still evident today. Do not allow Congress to stop funding the clean up.
Irre die überzogene Musikuntermalung, was mehr als nervig, wie unangebracht ist.
Disco zum Thema ??? Wie krank muss man sein ???
The over-the-top background music is insane; it's more than just annoying, it's completely inappropriate.
Disco theme??? How sick do you have to be???
I think both countries should forget remind that old films . Shake hands make the benefits , unite for both minds . The past stories just make your steps slowly and skepticism things. All of past stories were wrong forget make new plans. Because who made worse past stories no existing just next generations go foward
One Of The Reasons The U.S Lost Was That The Big Guys In Washington Were Always Afraid That If We Were On the Verge Of Winning The Chinese Would Enter The War And Would Keep Getting Bigger With No End In Sight.
This was some decent AI voice narration.
Mark 39:23 ……"kitchen sink"? Wasn't it a broken toilet pan??
I think the worst thing our government ever did to us is call Vietnam a conflict and not a war. We fought a war with the vietcong trying to kill us every day. I still have dreams and thoughts about what we went through. Our government cheated us and did all they could to get rich and not help us. I will never forgive them for that! 😢
If we would not have stop bombing Hanoi and Haiphong Harbor the war would have been over. This was a direct quote from General Giap.. The North Vietnamese had had enough but Johnson stop bombing and went for a diplomatic solution. STUPID the Air War had them on their knees????????????
Was never declared a war by congress or the president, was refered to as a police action just like Korea. Walter Cronkite a leftest news commentator stated calling it a war.
Vietnam Veteran.

A quick search showed this information.
RA-5C Vigilante, BuNo 150826, from the USS Kitty Hawk, was shot down over North Vietnam on May 19, 1967, during a critical reconnaissance mission, with pilot Commander James L. Griffin and his Reconnaissance Attack Navigator (RAN) LTJG Glenn Daigle surviving ejection but becoming POWs; Daigle was released, while Griffin died from wounds in captivity, his name now on the Vietnam Memorial.
Aircraft: North American RA-5C Vigilante (BuNo 150826) Reconnaissance Attack Squadron 13 (RVAH-13)
Date: May 19, 1967.
Location: Shot down over Hanoi, North Vietnam, near the Le Truc pavement, on Ho Chi Minh's birthday.
Carrier: USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63).
Crew: Pilot: Commander James L. Griffin.
RAN: Lieutenant Junior Grade Glenn H. Daigle.
Mission: A vital pre-strike reconnaissance mission, a high-risk job for the Vigilante.
Outcome:
Both ejected and were captured.
Daigle was held as a POW and released in 1973.
Griffin died from his wounds shortly after capture and was later identified through repatriated remains.
Further research shows some contradiction of who the RAN was:
Date: 19 May 1967
Aircraft type: RA-5C Vigilante
Serial Number: 150826
Military Unit: RVAH-13
Service: USN
Home Base: USS Kitty Hawk
Name(s):
Lt Cdr James Lloyd Griffin (POW (died))
Lt Jack Walters, Jr. (POW (died))
The final loss on what came to be known in Navy circles as ‘Black Friday’ involved an RA-5C reconnaissance aircraft from the Kitty Hawk. Lt Cdr Griffin and Lt Walters were tasked with obtaining BDA photographs of the Van Dien depot, which had been attacked about four hours earlier. As the aircraft (call sign Flint River) made its initial turn over Hanoi for its photo run it was at about 3,500 feet and doing around 700 knots. The aircraft was next seen to be engulfed in flames and flying in a northwesterly direction. About 10 miles from the city the Vigilante suddenly pitched up and the forward fuselage started to break up. Both crew ejected from the flaming, disintegrating wreck and apparently both men were taken to the Hanoi Hilton but survived only a few days, whether as a result of their injuries or from torture is not known. This final loss was a most unhappy postscript to a disastrous day for naval aviation.
Either way, none of these men should be forgotten.
The quality of this is superb
米はベトナムではやり放題だったが結局敗戦。
Dumping millions of gallons of poisons on nature is unforgivable, nothing justifies that!

God bless all of us that fought in that God-awful conflict.
