【秘湯】北海道・下川町の“五味温泉”が最高すぎた
Irankarapte♪ This time we’ll be looking at Gomi Onsen in Shimokawa Town, located in the northern part of Hokkaido.
It’s about a 30-minute drive from Nayoro City. Shimokawa Town is a small town with a population of about 3,000, surrounded by the lush forests and tranquility of northern Hokkaido. The biggest feature of Shimokawa Town is that about 90% of the town is covered in forest. It has long flourished as a forestry town, and even today, wood processing that makes use of forest resources and renewable energy initiatives are actively carried out. Shimokawa Town is a prestigious place for ski jumping, and many of the jumpers who represent Japan and are active around the world grew up here. The town has three ski jumping hills, and is used for domestic and international competitions and training camps, as well as providing an environment where children can become familiar with ski jumping from a young age. If you visit in the winter, you may be able to see practice sessions and competitions up close. Gomi Onsen opened in the Showa era, about 100 years ago, in the harsh winter of 1905. Gomi Kanzaburo, who managed the Imperial Estate, went hunting and discovered a single spot in the snowfield where the snow melted and a spring gushed forth. After sampling and testing the water, it was discovered that it had extraordinary healing properties. At the time, Shimokawa was a town thriving in forestry and agriculture. Lumberjacks who ventured into the mountains and farmers who were busy working in the fields from morning until night needed a hot spring to soothe their fatigue . Gomi Onsen started out as a simple public bath for these workers. In the early days, local people built simple buildings and charged almost no admission fee, and it was loved as a “local hot spring.” More and more people from outside the town visited for the hot spring cure, and Gomi Onsen eventually became known as a small tourist destination in the town. As the facilities began to deteriorate, Shimokawa town carried out renovations in the Heisei era and renovated it into the hot spring facility you see today. Over the years, Gomi Onsen has grown from a local hot spring into a famous attraction in the town. Gomi Onsen – just go through a road full of greenery and you’ll arrive! Let’s go! Accommodation is available in the main building and annex. The lobby sells a variety of Shimokawa Town specialties. The shop, renovated using local fir and lit with soft lighting, apparently also sells fresh vegetables from local farms in the summer. I recommend the udon! For a meal before your bath, head to the Rindo restaurant . From easy-to-eat noodles to a variety of hearty set meals, this is what the meals will be like if you stay overnight . Dinner and breakfast at Rindo! Looks delicious ! There are also many set meals and meat dishes available to general customers at lunch and dinner, but for personal reasons… I hurt my tooth, so I had noodles… The next day I discovered that my tooth was cracked at the base… I had to eat slowly despite the intense pain . It’s amazing how delicious it is even with a toothache . By the way, this miso ramen is a popular item! Be sure to eat your fill and take a relaxing bath! Eco House Mikuwa, a rental accommodation building located a two-minute walk away, is also available in Shimokawa Town. It is also fully equipped with an environmentally friendly model home and can be used for various purposes such as employee training and management training, making it ideal for use by groups. Gomi Onsen is a wood biomass energy heat supply facility . Biomass is a renewable organic resource derived from living organisms, excluding fossil resources. It uses wood as fuel to create the heat needed for the hot spring water. It uses nearby wood chips as fuel and the heat is used to heat the hot spring water and the building, making it an environmentally friendly energy facility . By using local wood instead of oil , CO₂ emissions are reduced and local forestry is also promoted, making it a very eco-friendly facility. This time, the staff at Gomi Onsen kindly provided us with the video. We are very grateful that they filmed it when there were no customers ! The video shows the men’s bath, while the women’s is completely opposite in design. There’s a drinking fountain, sauna, cold bath, and open-air bath. The water is a rare “carbon dioxide-containing spring” in Hokkaido. Carbon dioxide-containing springs contain sodium, magnesium, and calcium. The water at Gomi Onsen is a clear, slightly brown water that springs from deep underground, and is packed with the blessings of nature. The benefits include the carbon dioxide gas expanding the capillaries in the skin and mucous membranes, improving blood circulation without increasing the heart rate, and lowering blood pressure without putting strain on the heart, even for those with hypertension. The moment you step in, you’ll feel soft and relaxed. The hot springs are gentle and gentle on the body, even when soaking for a long time. Recommended for those with sensitivity to cold, stiff shoulders, neuralgia, and skin problems . It contains carbon dioxide, so it feels a little fizzy when you drink it. By the way, the hot spring water for drinking is cold, so it’s easy to drink, but the taste is… After your bath, take a relaxing refuel at the rest area. After your bath, take a relaxing refuel at the rest area. At Gomi Onsen, you can purchase delicious soft serve ice cream at the Rindo restaurant. “Okoppe Soft Serve” is made with raw milk from Okoppe Town. Soft serve ice cream goes perfectly with hot spring water. There is also a smoker-friendly smoking area and a karaoke room, which can be used by groups and guests. 100 yen per song. Opening hours The hours are from 10:00 AM to 9:30 PM, and reception closes at 8:30 PM. Naturally, it’s pitch black at night. Winters are harsh, with temperatures sometimes reaching minus 30 degrees Celsius. However, the air is crystal clear, and the starry sky is surprisingly vivid. In summer, the area is deep green, and the scent of the forest mingles with the breeze. A tranquility that calms the soul just by strolling around is what springs forth from the heart of nature at Gomi Onsen. Even as times change, the warmth and comfort that this hot spring offers remains unchanged . 100 years of history isn’t just proof that it’s old, but also that people’s memories have continued to accumulate.
