Hello everyone, I’m Momo. Guangzhou’s most famous “late-night food street” Baoye Road has finally been renovated. Today is the first day of business. We’ll take you to try it later. A time-honored food stall that has been in business for 30 years. Go Go Go This is Exit D of Shayuan Station on Guangzhou Metro Line 8. Walk in this direction You can reach “Shayuan Market”. And the shopping mall across the street It’s “Lefeng Plaza”. The “Baoye Road” we’re going to is in this direction. Set off Go Go Go You can’t find “dai pai dong” (open-air food stalls) here yet. This is one of the most bustling areas in Haizhu District. It was very lively with lots of people and cars. Many mobile vendors It is 6 p.m. now. Most “dai pai dong” (open-air food stalls) only open after dark. Previously, the “dai pai dong” (open-air food stalls) on “Bao Ye Road” operated until the early hours of the morning. The store will not close until 4 a.m. What will it be like now? There were many people queuing at this store. They sell “mochi” Nowadays, you have to queue at any “mochi” shop in Guangzhou. Very popular This is “XuXu Mochi”. One of the “Four Great Ci Pork Cakes” of Haizhu District We’ll buy one too, and take a picture to show everyone. Only a few flavors are sold each day. There are 7 items today. Prices range from CNY 13 to CNY 15 They didn’t have the “chestnut flavor” I wanted to try. This shop is actually a “mala tang (spicy hot pot) shop”. “Mochi” only rented part of the space. I’d like a “Strawberry Guava” flavor. All the ingredients were prepared in advance. Packed in a box The lid should be closed most of the time. Good hygiene This is “Mochi”. Stuff the ingredients in Then wrap it up. It was stuffed with lots of guava seeds. Where did the strawberries go? It might be strawberry jam. You’ll find out soon. The ingredients were wrapped up with incredible skill. The skin became very thin Choose “Crispy” for the breading. You can choose “coating with powder” for free. There are 5 options to choose from. -Just wait to pick it up. OK Food in hand A “mochi” worth 13 yuan. It’s strawberry guava flavored. A very large “mochi” (glutinous rice ball). Compared to fists It is indeed very big I chose “Crispy”. It’s the outermost layer, yellow. Add for free I chose the strawberry guava flavor. Give it a try “Mochi” is a popular snack in Guangzhou nowadays. It was eaten frozen. Rich in ingredients Guava is sweet No wonder so many people buy the guava flavor. The outer layer is crispy It’s soft enough inside. And it doesn’t stick to your teeth. The viscosity is just right Just the right concentration This snack costs 13 yuan. Enough for women to enjoy as a “late-night snack” or afternoon tea. But there will be a sense of guilt. It’s a dessert after all. The portion is really big. If boyfriend and girlfriend are dating That’s a perfect portion size for sharing. Rich ingredients Large pieces of guava The strawberry jam tastes similar to cheese, with a slightly sour flavor. It’s a feeling of health Just the right amount of sweetness And it has a rich flavor It looks great paired with the brown “crispy” texture. “Crispy” has a very crispy texture The texture inside isn’t too soft or mushy. It contains not only guava There are also crunchy “beads”. The texture is slightly refreshing and has a popping effect. These are affordable snacks that I’m happy with. Ladies will like Kids will also like it There have always been long queues. Continue on to Baoye Road Going to dinner Numerous mobile food stalls This is a pastry stall. They also sell cold noodles, etc. “Roasted Chestnuts” stall There are many of these stalls in winter. I think the “roasted chestnuts” sold by street vendors in Guangzhou… It wasn’t as delicious as the food I had in “Shanghai” before. The video has not yet been edited. Excuse me I will arrange the editing as soon as possible. Which shop has such delicious chestnuts? There are many restaurants “Beef Offal Shop” The boss is very enthusiastic But there were no customers in the shop. noodle shop This “sky bridge” connects to “Lefeng Plaza”. We don’t need to use the “overpass”. Take this side path This is an “All Seasons Hotel”. If Baoye Road recovers well It’s very convenient to live here. You can find “open-air food stalls” for late-night snacks right downstairs. We went to the other side of the road. Hurry up and leave The shop across the street is also very famous. Although it wasn’t our destination This road is called “Baoye Road”. Cross the road quickly What you see now is “Xiong Ji”. Very popular store In summer, their main product is crayfish. They sell higher-end crayfish. It looks similar to a regular crayfish. But the colors are different. It’s a blue “crayfish”. In winter, our main dish is “lamb stew”. They offer “clear broth lamb” and “crispy skin lamb”. This red-skinned lamb is called “crispy lamb”. Knows how to use the “braising” cooking method – Crispy lamb is 138 CNY/jin And the one next to it It’s mutton from “clear broth mutton”. It’s already very lively. It’s only 6 p.m. A row of chairs was placed outside the shop. Let the waiting people take a break This is the “Blue Dragon”. It is a high-end type of crayfish. Very fresh After introducing “Xiong Ji” We continued on. Continuing with the introduction of “Baoye Road” Baoye Road used to be the place in Guangzhou with the most late-night snacks. After the “dai pai dong” (open-air food stalls) were demolished A food court has reopened. Today is the opening day of this food court. The restaurant across the street is called “He Zi Wei Daily Delicacies”. It’s a “clay pot rice restaurant”. Very famous Open for about 20 years Very popular Many taxi drivers come here to eat. Speaking of “Baoye Road” We must mention “Stir-fried Snails”. I watch most of the videos explaining “Baoye Road” Surprisingly, no one mentioned “fried snails”. This is absolutely outrageous. I wonder if they actually ate a “late-night snack” on “Baoye Road”. Today I’m going to tell you the story of “Stir-fried Snails”. “Chao Luoming” is from “Zhongcun, Panyu”. Starting in 1980 He rode his bicycle Selling stir-fried snails at various “late-night snack streets” in Guangzhou. My dad said When he was dating my mother Back then, there were many food stalls on Changshou Road. He used to frequent “Chao Luo Ming” restaurant. And this was the first time I saw “Stir-fried Snails”. It’s on “Baoye Road” This can be considered a memory for two generations. “Chao Luoming” wears heavy makeup every day. Wearing brightly colored clothes Starting from “Zhongcun” Cycling for 4 hours Arrive in downtown Guangzhou Then he sold stir-fried snails at various “late-night food streets” in Guangzhou. Although “Chao Luo Ming” sells snails But actually, nobody cared about the taste of his snails. I just wanted to hear him sing Anita Mui’s songs. Or “sexy songs” or “foul-smelling songs”. Listen to him use profanity. Every time I see “fried snails” They would chat with him Listen to him sing a song I always feel very happy. I remember the last time I visited him A box of snails costs 38 yuan. Usually, if you buy a box of snails, you can hear him sing a few lines of songs. For 100 CNY, you can hear him sing a song. Actually, there is no fixed price. But everyone would directly give him a 100 CNY tip. “Chao Luoming” said this after drinking. He has 13 houses But how credible are things said when someone is drunk? “Chao Luoming” gets drunk by his customers every night. I cycled back to Zhongcun at daybreak. Unwavering through wind and rain It has been in business for over 40 years. From the “60s generation” to the “00s generation” He has quite a few fans The story of “Chao Luoming” and his daughter This is also something that many “Guangzhou residents” have been concerned about. Because “Chao Luoming” dressed very brightly every day when he went to perform. This caused his daughter to be very resentful. It reached the point of severing ties. Every time “Chao Luoming” gets drunk He would cry whenever he thought of his daughter. Thankfully, the ending was happy. His daughter began to understand him as she grew up. “Chao Luoming” was also invited to the wedding. I think “Stir-fried snails” is an important part of “Guangzhou’s late-night food culture”. This “Yongzuo” is also very famous. Mainly selling “Chaoshan porridge” It’s a Michelin-starred restaurant. And it has been ranked for several years. The buildings in this area are all relatively old. The upper floor is residential housing. The ground floor is for shops. Therefore, it is very prosperous. Although very convenient However, it is quite noisy. There are rice noodle roll shops, clothing stores, and fish ball noodle shops. Furniture stores, door and window stores This is “Baoyuefang”. Today is the first day of the new business. Many shops have moved in. The decoration is very modern. The largest one on the left It’s the “Wynn Hotel”. But it hasn’t opened for business yet. And next to it is Manner Coffee and Lawson convenience stores There are also some temporary stalls. Because it was the first day of business. So it should be more lively. Many shops are not yet fully renovated. This is “Old Bowl Club”. This bustling place is “Seven Joys Paradise”. The lion dance is performed with gongs and drums. Because it’s the opening of a “late-night snack street” So it was scheduled for the evening. It is 6:30 PM now. Very lively Because it was the first day of business. So there were a lot of people. Many activities were also arranged. The room on the second floor is the “Xiangqun Hotel”. Extremely lively “Yue Xiangqun” is run by “Brother Wei,” the second-generation successor of “Xiangqun.” Therefore, regardless of the decorating style or the menu They are all different from the shops opened by “Brother Sheng,” the founder of “Xiangqun.” But now Even the original shops on Longjin Road and the Pantang branch… It has already been renamed “Yuexiangqun” It should all have been handed over to the second generation of successors. We have already introduced the “Guangdong-Hong Kong Stock Connect” in detail before. I ate three meals in a row I tried many dishes Those interested can watch this video. This is an open kitchen. You can see the “open flame”. Therefore, it is quite normal for “open flames” to be used in shopping malls. who says there is no “open flame” is lying. Authentic “Fruitwood Roasted Goose” Although it was only used for smoking Instead of roasting goose meat over burning fruitwood. Otherwise, the cost would be too high. More than just “cooking in an open flame” There’s also “roasted goose over an open flame”. Extremely fierce fire This pile is “fruitwood”. This is air-dried “roast goose”. Next to it is a “seafood tank”. swimming shrimp fresh fish Very lively crab “Xiangqun” arranged a Douyin live stream here. Both the two hosts, whether on screen or in real life They are all very beautiful. There are also many shop stalls there. Seven Joys, Ma Kee Tea Stall, etc. There were also events held. Participation is free and you can win prizes. So a lot of people play games there. There were also many sponsor booths. This is the stage. There is a band performing. Very lively Today’s opening day featured a performance by “Chao Luo Ming”. “Ming-ge” is here. I prepared a very large pot of snails What is the current price? Hello, “Ming Ge” Are the snails sold out? – Also, it’s cooking. If I buy snails now, can I still hear you sing? -have – How many songs are left to sing? How many songs do you want to sing? -right Freshly stir-fried snails CNY 50 per serving A small box What songs can you sing? – Anita Mui’s classic songs Anita Mui’s classic songs -Sunset Light Sunset Light Do people still ride bicycles to sell snails now? – And there’s more? (The songs sung by “Chao Luoming” either have a “yellow label” or are copyrighted.) The stir-fried snails from “Stir-fried Snail Ming” cost 50 CNY. The smaller the snail The top is the lid. It’s a little hot. The bottom one is the intestine. Some people don’t eat intestines. But some people don’t mind. Eat it according to your own preferences. I only eat the meat on top. Give it a try It tastes good It tastes like the stir-fried snails I make at home. Perilla was used. A small amount of chili It can enhance the umami flavor The snails are very fresh. It tastes good, delicious. Perfect for chatting while drinking beer The current price is 50 CNY. It’s getting more and more expensive. The last time I ate there it cost 38 CNY. From primary school students to the elderly He has fans Everyone held up their phones to take pictures of him. “Baoyuefang” has 2 parts This is one part, and that other part from childhood. The entire area is very large. The middle is connected by a corridor Across a main road Now let’s go look at the part across the street. The pedestrian overpass is beautifully decorated. There are lights and decorations Sparkling Although the opening ceremony should be lively But I think it’s just too noisy. It’s a bit quieter here. Although the lively atmosphere was very good But eating in a loud environment for a long time It will be bad for hearing This restaurant is “Hua Zai Charcoal Stove Chicken Hot Pot”. Many diners are eating hot pot Tables and chairs can be placed outside the restaurant. It has the feel of a “dai pai dong” (open-air food stall). There’s still a queue now. However, many shops here are also under renovation. This is the “Master Qian’s School”. Few diners Mainly spicy dishes Ma Ma Fish, Bullfrog Fish, Boiled Frog In this area of Guangzhou Spicy dishes are not very popular Top floor here There is a restaurant called “Qingman Thai Lai” that specializes in seafood hot pot buffet. Large scale Many shops are still under renovation and have not yet opened. This is the “Golden Jubilee Restaurant”. There are several branches. It’s still under renovation, so it’s not open yet. Many have not yet opened. So it’s rather deserted. There are more stalls Strive to create a lively atmosphere After all, it was the first day of business. This is “Half a Cup of Chaozhou Tea”. It’s not open yet; it’s still under renovation. Next to it is a “Chaozhou cuisine” food stall. There are still Xiaomi shops that haven’t been opened yet. Several restaurants nearby were not open. Baoyue Guangshifang, Liyin Rice Noodle Rolls, etc. “Xiguan Bamboo Garden” will open a shop here later. Baoyuefang is so lively! There are queues at every store. And the environment is too noisy. So we chose the “Qileduo” stall next door. It’s a 30-year-old, long-established food stall. Walk in this direction from downstairs from “Qileduo” It’s “Jiangnan West Road”. Jiangnanxi also has many famous snacks. We previously filmed two episodes. Those interested can rewatch these videos. This is the “Qileduo” we’re going to eat. Nearest subway station Exit D of Shayuan Station on Guangzhou Metro Line 8 Walk 800 meters “Qileduo” is a long-established dai pai dong (open-air food stall) on “Baoye Road”. It has been open for 30 years Previously, their main business was dealing in “toads”. There was a period when the management was particularly strict. As a result, many shops that mainly sell “toads” have gone out of business. “Qileduo” originally served other Cantonese dishes and late-night snacks. Therefore, the impact was not that great. Today we’re having “Roast Goose with Fish Maw and Abalone” Only 109 CNY each Very cheap This is the dining environment. Most of them are large round tables There are window seats. Bright environment I sat down and looked at the menu. Tea fee: minimum CNY 5 per person Chrysanthemum: 6 CNY/person Rice: 5 CNY/bowl The prices are clearly marked on items such as tissues and lunch boxes. And the Wi-Fi password. The menu is as extensive as ever. But I didn’t see a “toad”. There was no “robot” either. There are stewed soups, sizzling dishes, oysters, roast goose, and pigeon. Mixed dishes and various “stir-fried dishes” Look at the current special offers “Lemongrass Baked Turbot” 78 CNY/fish “Ginger Baked Deep-Sea Grouper” CNY 88 Oysters: 38 CNY/dozen Roast goose: 38 CNY/serving 78 CNY/half The price on “TikTok” will be lower. “Roast pigeon” is also very popular. CNY 13 per piece Extremely outrageous price However, the two of them could only order one “pigeon”. A minimum of three people are required to order two pigeons. A minimum of five people are required to order three “pigeons”. And it needs to be paired with a full-priced dish. “Spring Water Jumping Frog” 1500g is priced at CNY 99. Braised Goose with Abalone and Fish Maw: CNY 48 per serving 98 CNY/half There’s also “sizzling clay pot”. A wide variety of dishes Continue to the next page Many more dishes Stir-fried vegetables, seafood, boiled pork trotters, cold okra salad, goose feet and wings Steamed Chinese Sausage with White Sausage (48 CNY) “Steamed Bamboo Stomach with Perilla” 52 CNY “Late Night Special Price” CNY 89 Three free beers hot pot “Our Store’s Treasure” It’s not a “toad,” it’s a “bullfrog.” CNY 63 per case It can also be weighed for pricing. CNY 29/500g Sold from 1000 grams Stir-frying, pan-frying, deep-frying, baking, etc. Most dishes cost between CNY 30 and CNY 60. No dishes priced over 100 yuan “Member price” is even cheaper During the previous promotional period I bought a roast goose for 109 yuan on Douyin (TikTok). It contains abalone and fish maw. The current price is 118 CNY per piece. A little pricey Many more packages Those interested can check it out on Douyin (TikTok). You can buy four “pigeons” for 68 yuan. A set meal for four people costs 137 yuan. “Roasted Pigeon + Chicken” Set Meal: CNY 112 A set meal for two costs 98 CNY. There’s also a “goose + oyster” set meal for 138 yuan. Chicken hot pot set meal for 2-3 people: CNY 68 Let’s take a look at the contents of the four-person set meal. Only 137 CNY More than 30 yuan per person Roast goose Choose three out of five dishes You can choose from shrimp, fish, chicken, bullfrog, and sweet and sour pork. It also includes “seasonal vegetables”, “snacks”, beverages and “tea fee”. Only 137 CNY Those interested can search on “Douyin”. Very cost-effective Although “toad” is no longer on the menu. But I asked the waiter. If you call ahead to make a reservation You can eat “toads”. Steamed oysters: 48 CNY/dozen A dozen A great many It comes with “soy sauce and wasabi” and two small knives. You can open it yourself You can also ask the waiter to open it for you. The oysters were quite large. It’s still hot, very hot to the touch. For you all, I’ve decided to shuck oysters. Oyster shells cannot be cleaned properly. There are many impurities. A very natural state Have you ever tried shucking oysters? It’s actually not difficult. This makes it easy to pry open. Successfully opened the oyster. It took about 10 seconds. It’s very simple. Very large And full It can be removed by cutting it. It is steamed alive. So big It is often referred to as a “gas station for men”. Dip it in “soy sauce wasabi” Eat Very sweet The oysters are better than those at the night market. The price is also a few yuan. However, the “night market” is not very hygienic. Eating in the store is much safer. Very sweet Each one was very plump. I am very satisfied No fishy smell tasty However, it’s easy to break the shell when opening it. This results in debris. Fresh, not fishy The meat is elastic Because we chose the discounted “roast goose”. Therefore, it should be paired with a “full-price dish”. The regular price for “oysters” is 48 CNY. The special-priced “oysters” are only 38 yuan. A whole roasted goose worth 109 yuan. Includes “fish maw” and “abalone” The portion size is as follows Very large The leg was not cut off There are also many kinds of fish maw and abalone. This is “fish maw” And these are “abalone” It was cleaned very well. attractive appearance Can smell the fragrance The market has just opened. It must be freshly baked “crispy roast goose”. However, no candle was used to maintain the temperature. The accompanying “plum sauce” was just sauce; it didn’t contain any plums. Try the taste It has 4 legs Slightly warm temperature That’s how it is. The skin has a crisp texture. Noticeable crispness It’s “glass skin”. It has a certain thickness It is expected to be crispy. The goose meat has been trimmed of fat. And it’s juicy. It looks attractive. The enticing roast goose Big goose leg Moreover, the skin is thick, extremely thick. Looking forward to the taste, will give it a try. The first bite was absolutely perfect. Very sweet However, this is limited to just one bite. You can see that the other skin is thin. Try the meat It has become very ordinary. And the difference is huge. The transition was really fast. I’m satisfied with this goose leg. Moreover, the fat is removed thoroughly. The quality is not much different from most roast geese. However, it’s only 109 CNY per piece here. For now, I think it’s a good deal. However, the “roast goose” portion is large. Not only does the goose leg have to be delicious The meat on the goose should also be delicious. There’s also “fish maw” and “abalone”. These are all things we need to appreciate. Keep eating There were some residues on the “goose skin”. Only this piece of crust is crispy. So the first bite gives people the illusion that it tastes good. The flavor is sweet and rich. attractive But if you eat too much of it, you’ll find that’s not actually the case. Try the meat from the goose. It’s stuffed too full, it’s hard to get it out. Look at the goose meat No subcutaneous fat However, these skins don’t look very crispy. Give it a try If it doesn’t taste good, then it’s not good value for money at all. That’s right. Not big Convenient to eat The skin didn’t look good. But the texture is crisp. The meat actually tasted rather ordinary. obvious roughness It also has a slight goose odor. The most serious issue is a “goose-like odor”. Fortunately, this one isn’t too serious. However, a slight “smelly” odor could be detected. The seasoning is quite rich, and the flavor is strong and juicy. Suitable for mixing with rice The meat on the outside of the goose is much worse than the meat on the leg. Average taste Priced at CNY 109 Although the price is relatively low But I think the quality is just average. There’s no need to make a special trip to try it. Because “goose meat” is too coarse. Try other ingredients Large pieces of “fish maw” There are several pieces There are approximately four complete pieces of “fish maw”. “Abalone” comes in three varieties: 1, 2, and 3. There are about 4 Half of it was at the bottom of the dish. The abalone used is dried abalone. Clean The fish maw was very thick. Although it’s just “codfish maw” I don’t expect it to have a “gelatinous” texture. The main focus is on the taste. Try “fish maw” first. A very elastic texture But it definitely doesn’t contain any gel. Not sticky at all Fortunately, it didn’t taste fishy. Moreover, because the seasoning of “roast goose” is relatively strong. Therefore, fish maw tastes delicious after absorbing the broth. Now even “special offer dishes” are willing to use “fish maw”. It’s because it uses “codfish gelatin”. Although it lacks gelatinous texture, it has a chewy mouthfeel. Therefore, it can achieve good results. However, it is not recommended to buy “codfish gelatin” for personal consumption. Next up is “abalone” The abalone used is dried abalone. I carefully divided it into two. Convenient to eat If it’s too big, it’s hard for the flavors to penetrate. Moreover, it has a hard texture, which many people don’t like. It was still snow-white inside. Will it have a smell? Larger Estimated size: approximately 30-40 heads Simmer until tender Moreover, it is divided into two. Very convenient to eat It may have been marinated in advance. Although it was snow-white inside But it has a smell. The ingredients used are not bad. This resolves the doubt about whether 109 CNY is worth it. Because fish maw and abalone are also very delicious. Overall, it’s not that bad. The skin of the first goose leg was crispy. The second leg is also brittle. However, the texture of goose leg meat varies greatly. The meat here is very dry. Very rough Even the flesh on the legs is rough. This “roast goose” costs 109 yuan. I think it’s just that the portion size is large, making it seem like a good deal. But the taste is definitely not worth it. The roast goose at Qileduo is not as good as the one at Cuicheng Restaurant. similar price However, the quality of the “roast goose” was much lower. The skin is delicious because it’s made with a “glassy” skin. Because the “skin hydration” is relatively thin Therefore, the “hard and crisp” texture is not obvious. “Goose age” is probably not enough. Take a closer look at the “goose skin”. No checkered pattern Compared to the roast goose at “Cuicheng Restaurant” The “goose flavor” is not enough. It’s obvious that this goose was mostly frozen. No gravy Very rough Moreover, some of the goose skin is very “dry”. The “liver” that is not the same as the liver itself. It’s the “dried” in “dried meat.” Very difficult to bite open Look at the front legs The skin looks hard and crispy. The meat inside It is extremely dry. Very coarse, with no juiciness I don’t know how long the goose had been frozen. Bone marrow is also dry. It’s obvious that the meat is very dry. I think the taste is terrible. It’s been a long time since I’ve had frozen goose. Very bad goose Finally, I saw “Chencun rice noodles”! Cut into short squares It has a relatively thick texture Large portion I hope Chencun rice noodles are delicious. Goose meat is absolutely awful. Too dry Dip it in “roast goose sauce” Because “Chencun rice noodles” have a very mild flavor. Like “pig intestine rice noodles” It has a thick texture Moreover, it has a firm texture. There’s no obvious “rice aroma”. However, the texture is soft and smooth. It’s delicious dipped in “roast goose sauce”. mentioned before The seasoning for this roast goose is quite rich. It goes very well with staple foods But the goose meat was really bad. You should know Expensive restaurants don’t necessarily serve good food. Cheap restaurants don’t necessarily serve bad food. But like this A cheap restaurant, but the food is not good. I think it’s something to avoid. At the very least, this “roast goose” was not tasty. I’ve been to “Qileduo” many times before. It tasted good back then. Especially the “toad”. It’s very delicious. I didn’t expect it to be just a nominal price reduction. I suggest you don’t try this “roast goose” which costs 109 CNY. Perhaps we should try “pigeon”? I saw many locals visiting. It was full and very noisy. Are they all here to eat “pigeon”? Because it’s thick, the texture is noticeable. But the “rice aroma” is very weak. Fortunately, the texture is soft and smooth. Rolled up like this It should be “pig intestine rice noodles” It is small and square It can be stretched out, more like “cheese rice noodle rolls”. The texture is also very similar to “pig intestine rice noodles”. Not only is “goose meat” ordinary “Plum sauce” is also very ordinary. The texture is very thin More like plum juice There was also no “pickled plum meat”. It tastes very sour This is unacceptable. I paid 58 CNY on the spot. I paid 109 yuan on Douyin. Therefore, the total cost was 167 CNY. We simply couldn’t finish this “roast goose”. Pack the rest to take home and make “roast goose congee”. Please save my 109 CNY. I noticed that “roast goose” was a must-order dish for everyone. But I think it’s just a good deal. It’s still a long way from being delicious. I recently tried the “special roast goose” at several restaurants. For now, the one that seems to offer the best value for money is… Cuicheng Restaurant in Liwan District We filmed a video. Cuicheng Restaurant uses fresh goose. It tastes much better than “Qileduo”. Both the skin and the meat are delicious. And it only costs 90 CNY Qileduo’s roast goose is only a little more expensive. But the taste is far worse than just a little bit off. You also need to order a full-priced dish to place an order. So I think it’s not good value for money. That concludes this episode.

Baoye Road, Guangzhou:
The late-night food culture on Baoye Road in Guangzhou emerged around 2000 and gradually became a landmark for Guangzhou’s nightlife. It’s dominated by Cantonese-style open-air food stalls, specializing in dishes like congee, barbecue, crayfish, stir-fried snails, and clay pot dishes—all bursting with the “wok hei” (the smoky aroma imparted by a hot wok). Tables and chairs often extend onto the sidewalk, with diners drinking and chatting outdoors in a free and boisterous atmosphere. Examples include “Jiu Shao” stall specializing in roasted pigeon, Nanxing Restaurant specializing in congee, and Fusheng Restaurant offering late-night tea. The grassroots internet celebrity “Chao Luo Ming” (Stir-fried Snail Ming), with his mobile vendors and impromptu singing, is a significant feature of the area. However, due to prominent issues such as noise pollution from cooking fumes, obstruction of traffic, fire safety hazards, and hygiene problems, there are numerous complaints from residents.
In March 2023, the operator suddenly notified merchants to vacate within a specified period, catching businesses that had just weathered the pandemic and were hoping for a summer recovery off guard. Many diners rushed to have their “last supper” on Baoye Road before its closure, creating a brief but vibrant resurgence.
The renovation project was incorporated into the Haizhu District’s “Jiangnan Cultural, Commercial and Tourism Integration Zone” and officially commenced construction in July 2023. After approximately one and a half years of construction, the street-style commercial complex “Baoyuefang” officially opened on December 12, 2025. At opening, the occupancy rate exceeded 90%, with numerous established brands and new names opening simultaneously.
Da Pai Dang 大排檔(literally “open-air food stall”):
The term existed in Guangzhou during the Southern Song Dynasty, but it originally referred to a lavish banquet, quite different from its modern meaning. After the economic deregulation of the 1980s, many privately-run food stalls revived, with da Pai Dang being a prominent example. Da Pai Dang emerged as a new catering model in Guangzhou in the 1980s. It is said that the earliest da Pai Dang in Guangzhou was located around Guangwei Road, later expanding to the vicinity of Tianzi Wharf along the Pearl River.
