Tsuwano Town is located in the southwestern part of Shimane Prefecture, and the townscape spreads out in a small basin in the mountains, and is known as a representative of Little Kyoto. It is designated as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings as the Tsuwano Town Tsuwano Traditional Buildings Preservation District. In addition, the heron dance that parades through the town at the Gion Festival held at the end of July every year is synonymous with Tsuwano, and has been designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
