This video documents a demanding summer bicycle journey starting in Ono City, Fukui Prefecture, and traversing the mountains, including a major pass, toward Fukui City.
The route begins in the Ono Plain on Fukui Prefectural Road 172 (Saradani-Ono Line) and soon climbs the notorious “Tsukumomegurizaka (九十九廻坂)” pass, which is located near the border between Ono City and Fukui City. This is a historically significant and challenging steep climb, featuring countless switchbacks (tsuzura-ori) on the steep mountain side.
After crossing the pass and exiting the Tsukumomegurizaka Tunnel, the ride connects to Fukui Prefectural Road 26 (Shinoo-Katsuyama Line), following the clear stream of the Ashimi River through the Ashimi district (Ashimi River Valley) of the former Miyama Town. The journey then passes through Usogaguchicho, covers a section of the historic Mino Kaido (Mino Road), and concludes near the Kaminishibashi Bridge over the Asuwa River in Shinagase-cho.
Enjoy the 4K footage of this challenging and scenic summer ride, which features a steep pass, a river valley, and historic roads.
