【九州一周・準備編】福岡→熊本を真夏に走った日
Today, I recorded my journey of running 130 kilometers from Fukuoka to Kumamoto as a ‘preparation chapter’ for my trip around Kyushu I tested the concerns I had about the heat, stamina, the KAIKATSU Club, and the cycle train When I decided to go around Kyushu, to be honest, my worries were greater than my excitement I had never properly run over 100 kilometers in the summer, and I had no idea how well I could handle the heat and my stamina So, the goal this time was to increase my options as much as possible before the actual event by testing whether I could run in the heat, if I could rest properly at the KAIKATSU Club, and if the return cycle train was actually convenient Since it was July, I immediately thought, ‘It’s hot today…’ as I started running I was sweating a lot, and in my mind, I was lightly worried, ‘Will I be able to manage this during the actual event?’ Later, when I got home, I realized I had been running in winter innerwear in the middle of summer I couldn’t help but think, ‘No wonder it’s hot.’ Yes, I’m now at the 90-kilometer mark, entering Kumamoto. And here comes the rural area It’s just too hot. I need a break soon On the other hand, in terms of ‘being able to run even in the worst conditions,’ it might have turned out to be a surprisingly good test I tried to follow the JR line as much as possible so that if I got too tired, I could return by train I also chose main roads to easily stop at convenience stores and brought extra coins to use at vending machines I even put salt tablets in my pocket just in case I safely arrived in Kumamoto, and this time my accommodation was a private room at the KAIKATSU Club It had flat seats, and I could bring my bicycle luggage inside However, since I had to sleep with the bike bag, it was honestly a bit cramped But having a shower, a drink bar, and flexible checkout times was incredibly appreciated When traveling by road bike, the departure time the next morning can be very early, so places with this level of flexibility are often better suited than hotels I honestly thought, ‘This would work perfectly for the actual event.’ The next morning, I ran a bit along the nearby river There was a white, fluffy steam rising, and a heron was standing still, creating a strong sense of ‘morning of the journey.’ Towards Mount Aso. The mist is so thick that I can’t see Mount Aso… I’m a bit unsure whether to get closer to Mount Aso or not On the way from Kumamoto to Omuta, the bike computer is guiding me along an amazing route This time, it was a meaningful two days where I could address my concerns for the round trip around Kyushu Riding 130 kilometers a day was manageable as long as I replenished regularly The Kaikatsu Club is a good option for accommodation during the trip The cycle train is incredibly convenient. By gradually taking on small tests, I’ve started to gain confidence for the actual round trip around Kyushu I would be happy if you could also watch the next video
