新たなルート、新たな挑戦:自転車ノンストップの旅が始まる! – アメリカ横断サイクリングアドベンチャー エピソード7
good morning I had a good night slept well it’s about 7:00 it’s a cafe over here get some coffee maybe a bagel or something still struggle to eat breakfast but I know I need to eat something so now everyone’s out you can see this is where I was last night just in this church Hall I caught over there just awesome I love things like this this is again what I really enoy en Joy about Trails like this and it’s all donation based and they don’t want much they want like $5 but you got everything you got a little kitchen area you’ve got fridge power and Wi-Fi restrooms yeah I just I really really love this stuff and it is really appreciated I’m going to head out I’m going to pack up and I’m going to get moving and see how far I get like I said last night this is the first day where I have no idea I don’t know what’s ahead of me I know the names of the towns but I don’t know what’s in them so finally made it out about 10:00 I was uploading some stuff and just I don’t know I didn’t fancy rushing so I’m headed to this place Riverton how’s it going good luck CDT hiker with a bad ankle he’s had to go to the medical center and he’s just on his way back so anyway um yeah there’s a place called Riverton and uh the guy in the coffee shop there said uh there’s a hotel for $50 that includes breakfast so so I don’t know I think I’m going to head for that uh if it’s on the route it should be and um it’s right next to a Walmart so I can go in and do a proper resupply got to stop here fat I’d absolutely want this well that was very interesting but better keep moving this landscape is really really interesting it’s like that Painted Hills I saw feels like months ago about weeks ago time ceases to have meaning when you’re doing these things a week feels like a month a month feels like a year it’s really strange so I’m on an Indian reservation at the moment and that’s what they call it all the signs say Indian Reservation but it’s absolutely stunning and with all the smoke just looks like you’re riding into the abyss but in a good way if you could ever say that in a good way just amazing I’m not getting very far today it’s a slow day I keep stopping looking around as I should I don’t know why we don’t get paydays in the UK they’re great nice a bit of shade it’s been going really well though this morning fast roads small headwind slightly downhill all looking good so here we are this is the branch that way is on the TransAm this way is on the bike Non-Stop and I’m taking the bike non-stop as I’m sure you know most people told me to do that in the first place but I was unsure and I always knew that I could jump between the two trails at certain points I’ve done what 1,450 mil on the TransAm so now I’ve got a good sense I do want the quieter roads and the thing is even though everyone told me to do the bike non-stop in the first place the quieter roads you have to find out for yourself I am stubborn I suppose you could look at it that way but I wanted to see what it was like and make up my own mind that’s not to say I didn’t appreciate all the comments and all the suggestions I listen to them of course but you know it’s the case that if you listen to everybody you wouldn’t do anything because there’s always somebody to tell you that something’s dangerous you know when I talked about the gdmbr I was told there’s too many bears that America is dangerous Small Time small town America is you know a dangerous place to be and if I’d have listened to them I wouldn’t have done the gdmbr and it was one of the best things I’ve ever done so you know sometimes you get it wrong the roads on the trans exam are too busy that’s my opinion I imagine when that route was established I’m not sure exactly when but I know it’s been around for a long time there was a lot less traffic and my opinion is maybe it doesn’t work and needs to be modified you know that’s just my opinion I’m going to get going now on the bike Non-Stop and see what happens it might not be any better but I’m going to find out so just to add to that that I was distracted somebody pulled in and just had a bit of a chat which is always nice but um yeah just to add to that the bike non-stop stays further north supposed to be quiet a road some gravel I’ve probably told you all this already if Ross is clever and has the patience maybe you’ll put a comparison of the two routs up you’ll hate me for just suggesting it because those Maps take him ages I know but um you know it’s still still a Trans Am but not the classic Trans Am and also it goes through um Nebraska it’s the state I’ve not seen so I’m excited to see that in general I think I’m I am excited to get towards the east coast a bit more because I’ve not explored that area by bike I’m feeling positive we’re lower elevation so it’s hot again 35° Celsius anyway today has been mostly this proba I’ve got about 10 miles to go and I’ll be ready when it’s done here we are this is what a $50 hotel room motel room gets you but I mean it’s fine it’s all I need so there’s a Walmart just over the road a Wendy’s just here everything I need so yeah I’ve been out got something to eat I’ve been looking at tomorrow and it’s very different to the TransAm there’s a town at about 20 mi and then another at 100 miles so it looks like I’ll be wild camping but also there’s nothing in between the 20 and the 100 really apart from I found a rest stop which is like a picnic sort of area but it has water so it’s uh yeah it’s going to be a different challenge so I think I’m going to get to the town at 20 probably pick up water there and then get on to that rest stop and then see what happens like I might end up just camping on the side of the road somewhere or I might have to do 100 miles into a town called Casper yeah this is different I think it’s going to be well I knew it it’s more just winging it but I’m going to go to bed because I want to get up earlyish I need to go and get some supplies before I get out so I’m going to go I’ll see you in the morning today was a big day for me I’m on the bike non-stop I’m off the TransAm I still think it was the right thing to do so thank you for watching I’ll see you tomorrow good morning it’s about 8:30 I’ve already been out and had breakfast I was uh so tired last night I slept like a log and I was dehydrated I can tell it’s going to be I think a similar day to yday it wasn’t the most interesting I’m anticipating a long dry I don’t want to say boring but boring ing day I might be wrong we’re going to find out aren’t we I’ll see you up the trail nice big shoulder it’s fine this is just how I want it I mean still noisy but you know it’s a lot better than some of the roads I’ve been on [Applause] I have to say it is strange you just ride R into a place like this onto a road like this where there’s literally nothing for 100 miles just this just almost desert I mean not quite desert but you know what I mean you do feel a bit vulnerable so the wind has arrived and I’m riding East and the wind’s blowing North so it’s a cross wind which is better than a headwind but uh still brings its own challenges right keep going there’s not a lot to see so I haven’t filmed much in fact Ross could use the same clip over and over and over again and only the most astute of you would know time for a break that was end done the reason being every time I stop I try and let the wind dry out everything helpes with the saddle SS which I still have one particular one there’s nothing nothing to show you it’s been the same all day but we’re peeling off the miles that’s the thing and I’m heading east which is nice cuz I don’t feel like I’ve headed east much since I started but it feels like it’s the right direction so I’m going to read some of this and then just keep going it’s all going well right we’re at the breast area now to make sure there’s water here I really hope there is the wind is exhausting okay I fil the the weather it looks a bit dodgy but I’ve got a bit of a Tailwind going on here I think I’m going to head on I’ve just been speaking to a guy called Axel a bike another bike rolled in here which is amazing really he’s doing his own route he’s sent me the details I’ve talking to him for ages it looks pretty amazing so he’s heading to atoria but he started in New York and he made this route to go through you know some of the lakes and I’ve got to have a proper look at it um he also said there’s a place down the road further on called Powder River where I might be able to Camp I don’t know I’m just going to ride see what I can find this was it really you know I’m I’m anxious and nervous because I I haven’t got anywhere like up but I’ve got to get over this this guy Axel he’s doing this ride he’s in 30 days coast to coast and he just rides till 1000 p.m. and then puts his tent up I just need to be more like that well not the 30 days thing but but more loose with my plans the riding’s got to come first it can’t be dictated by campsites there we go summarized succinct right I’m going to get moving so I found a spot I’m not far from the road but I didn’t know how far to go there could be a perfect spot further down but to be honest I’m out the way I don’t think anyone’s going to see me particularly when it starts getting dark and the road is going to quieten down so I think we’re good the other thing is I’m going to get an epic Sunset over here I think a really really nice Sunset it’s windy I’m hoping it’s going to calm down it should do but I probably not pitched it in the best place okay it’s still really windy but I’m going to bed not much more going to happen tonight a 77 miles for the day I hope this wind dies down and I managed to get some sleep but we shall see and I’ll tell you in the morning so good [Music] night so good morning and it’s a windy one it was windy all night amazingly I slept okay not too bad pcking up was a challenge now we’re going to head into Casper I think it’s about 40 Mi something like that I haven’t had coffee cuz there’s no way I could boil water in this wind so I need to get there I can’t think beyond that this is hard going this morning cuz it’s kind of like a crosswind headwind now is coming at me diagonally and uh my legs are feeling it already so it’s going to be a long day I’m barely moving and this is going to go on all day so we finally made it to Casper that was a long windy stretch I’m just going to go to this one the first Diner I’ve come across I need something to drink and I need some food Grandma looks completely crazy I’m still going in well that was great she wasn’t half as crazy as she appears in that caricature so uh I told you I’m in Casper it’s 67 mil to Douglas where I’m meeting a subscriber tomorrow for lunch so that’s all I need to do is get to Douglas by midday tomorrow the wind is horrible but there’s an RV park at a nice looking little town in 31 mies so I’m just going to push through it that would mean an easy morning tomorrow you know the truth is even with these headwinds if you put it in the right gear you could do 10 m an hour I can do 30 m in 3 hours and then you know maybe I can get a shower at this Campground later sort of spoiled with showers but I do like going to bed clean I sleep better although you know on the Divide I could go four five 7 Days sometimes without showers and be fine when you can have one I think one should anyway this lock it’s my second auto lock and now the barrels are broke on it and neither of them lasted at all absolute rubbish junk there’s a mini review for you I don’t know if Russ will put that in cuz one day that could be my biggest sponsor couldn’t I but then I wouldn’t be sponsored by rubbish junk if you own autolock and you want to respond then please do and if I’ve done something wrong I’ll retract it for money for money makes a nice change it won’t last but nice to be on a cycle path I’m looking forward to these rail Trails I’ve heard they’re boring some people say they are but I don’t know I’m ready for a change just some quieter roads so you can’t hear cars I’m on a road tour I don’t want to hear cars I don’t know you live and learn so I’m curious I’ve obviously lost upper body strength but I’ve also lost a lot of weight so I wonder if I can do a China let’s see now Ross if you could make that look like about 50 and not just two before I was done that would be be nice I like Casper seems like a really nice place this is new I think this is a rail trail I saw a sign saying the Great American rail trail so I’m just on a small section I think I come off it soon this is all right can you see all these crickets it’s just so many they’re just smacking me in the face wow never seen anything like this so I don’t know what rail Trails I’m going to come across but these tires sort of can do it but not quite so I think if they were going to be like this I’d probably switch the tires out I am being smashed to Pieces by uh crickets but this is like i’ I’ve have half a Mile’s experience on on rail trails and this might not be indicative of the rest of the route but I already like it look I’m not even pedling this is uphill nearly made it to the top I might St but it’s just so nice yeah here we go I’m picking up again awesome this is when the wind is my friend all morning it was my enemy and all afternoon my friend right we’re here Glenn Rock I think there’s an RV park there’s a couple actually I was looking at the reviews for one that looked pretty good I think I might go down there first check it out what I’m worried about is even if I find a place this wind is so strong there’s no way I can get the tenter so I’m hoping they have sheltered spots but I’ll go and find out so it looks like there’s some sort of fair on suppose it is a Saturday and it looks like I could just camp in the town park there people are but I want a shower okay so that campsite want $40 so there’s no way I’m paying that I then went to the police station to see if I could stay on the town park but I couldn’t they did tell me a place I could go and camp for free but I thought I’d check out this one last place right on the river um and I’m glad I did because I’ve got shower toilet and it’s $10 and he’s kindly squeezed me in cuz it is quite busy and he’s got a family thing going on I’m going to set up here have a shower yeah and that’s it really tomorrow I don’t even have to get up early but I’m not going to hang around and head into Douglas right I’m all showered I’m going to have dinner I can’t cook out here and I don’t want rice either so I’m having spam fig rolls trail mix this thing and some sweets I know it’s not good but I ate a big meal earlier I’ve got I just can’t eat rice anymore I don’t want rice I don’t want noodles I’ve got to be more creative and there’s not a lot of information about the bike non-stop that I can find about services and things along the way which uh you’d expect really cuz it’s a race but um I going to document it as I go anyway somebody might decide to follow this route if I was to put together a route from the start I would do what I did on the Transam and probably get on the bike non-stop where I did because then you get to see you know Oregon and the coast there which was beautiful and Yellowstone which I’d not been through and um the tons so I wouldn’t miss stem out I think the bike non-stop is focusing on roads the quality and safety and less on the towns that you go through I might be wrong but you can’t have both I think the TransAm picks the nice towns but for me I think I said it already I I like these authentic towns this town is awesome I’m not really going to explore it much because I’ll be out again in the morning but you know what I’ve seen of it anyway it’s it’s a nice place I have more to say but I’ll say it tomorrow particularly about my attitude around camping I’ve already touched on it and how I’ve got to make the riding the priority I can’t allow this ride to be or the pace I do and the distance I do each day to be based on campsites it’s an anxiety thing it’s ridiculous and I need to get over it because I’m in America it’s easy here I want to do more more countries maybe countries with language barriers and countries where you’re not expected and if I can’t freestyle in the US and just see where things go then I can’t do it anywhere so the rest this trip has got to be an experiment in just winging it the whole way anyway I said I wasn’t going to talk about it and then I did for now I’m going to say good night cuz there’s nothing more to say I did did 70 M today I don’t know about a scent but not a lot first half was difficult the second half was amazing cuz I had a tailwind and I flew it was awesome I loved it I’ll see you tomorrow good night that’s my new way if you ever meet me that’s the secret way if you do that I’m going to give you something probably stickers or something I got to sort it out you got to do that though yeah good morning had a really good night last night going to head out now to Douglas I’m having a morning of failures I’ve had some problems so I’m going to have to stop this afternoon and sort them out my um Wahoo it just won’t load the road the the route so I’m having to stop and check my phone all the time and also my phone will not call us numbers for whatever reason it used to now it’s stopped so I have this highway all to myself I think it’s Highway 93 I know there that Interstate that runs kind of parallel to it and there’s nothing out here really for anyone to get to but this is the definition of quieter roads right here it’s great I think this area is called Rolling Hills and I can see why just up and down up and down it’s nice though definitely nice on this Quiet Road right so I’m back now parallel to the interstate and this interstate is why I’ve had such lovely roads all morning it’s been great I’ve been in touch with um Steve the subscriber I mentioned and he’s in town in Douglas so I’m going to meet up with him but yeah it’s been a nice ride this morning I don’t think it’s very far 37 Mi or something but uh lovely quiet roads honestly makes such a difference so this is Steve Steve has just met me well I’ve just met Steve here in Douglas W yeah and Steve has very kindly booked me a room at this sleep in so I get a hotel for the night and we’re going to go over to McDonald’s and he gave me a insulated ball want see it yeah just so that we can uh and is this stuff this stuff is in there he’s hidden it in there so I can I can drink it whenever I want but this is what chalada mango chili it is the nicest is I don’t know if it’s a beer is a beer is it they said it was a beer it’s just so nice it’s just awesome I love it that’s my new favorite beer I’m not just saying it either so yeah we’re going to go over to for McDonald’s now and um I don’t know what else but food first yeah exactly get that out of the way then all the fun stuff afterwards exactly so I’m in the room and it’s really nice sleep in in Douglas that’s right so yeah what a great blog um Steve is really nice he’s watched all the videos even the canoe ones which is uh a mark of a a loyal subscriber I think it’s going to rain so it’s another good reason not to be out today I think I’m going to be in Nebraska tomorrow which will be cool cuz I’ve never been to Nebraska for now though I’m going to do la laundry clean up a bit and then uh Steve and I are off to a steakhous so that should be good we’re at a steak house really interesting place isn’t it yeah it’s one of the few places I’ve think they still smoking the front yeah it’s weird I mean neither us so that bother I just it just feels strange but we’ve got salads salad and then I’ve Got a New York strip I don’t know what that is but a nice day a nice day and I’m going to have a nice bean and beef sounds look at that that is beautiful and your burrito looks good too doesn’t look too bad yeah definitely different than anyone I’ve ever had before is it yeah cuz it’s a crunchy it’s a crunchy shell usually there s shells burnt yeah so back in the room that was a great night Steve brought me some supplies so I can clean my bike properly which I have done given the chain a proper degre clean the cassette as it is the bike is working great I’m really really pleased I’ve not had any issues I’m probably going to get an early night tomorrow I’m not going to rush out breakfast at half 7 and then get packed up and then head out I have no idea where I’m going tomorrow but like I said earlier I think I’m going to be in Nebraska anyway I’ll see you in the morning good night thank you so here we go I’m out of the hotel it took a while 10:00 but I’m here with Steve now you’re going back to Colorado to color y I’m going to hit the road and try and get to Nebraska about 80 miles about 80 miles yeah but I can’t thank you enough you more than generous just just too much to to mention and uh try to make it as easy as possible you know cuz it’s hard on the road and yeah well I I it’s been an absolute joy and it’s been my honor to have you in our part of the country how nice how nice and this this is just it’s so cool and I won’t forget it and we’re going to stay in touch my friends now one quick thing I watched your video you just started a YouTube channel just started like a week ago and it’s called My senior brain I’ll put a link in the description below and what is it’s briefly about looking after your brain when you get over 50 if you’re over 50 and you’re concerned about your brain health moving forward we’re going to give you things to do to help you mitigate that problem keep your brain strong and healthy for the rest of your life this is me I need it see we were talking about it last night so yeah I watched your first video there’s only one video up there only one up right now yeah we just started but very interesting so have a look at that I’ll put a link in the description and then you can click on that and of course Port people are nice to me which you want to do this is very cool look at this the size of it I bet you didn’t think it was that big did you huge seems to be heading off in a different direction but there’s another one over there so I’m right in the middle of them at the moment there’s more coming I’d be amazed if I don’t get wet but you never know I’ve had good luck with the rain so far so I’m not going to moan well how lucky was that this town just popped up I mean there’s not been anything and as soon as it started raining a town appears with a picnic shelter which I’m in and restrooms and they got water I was just speaking to two of the people that live here they were saying it’s called Lost Springs because they found a spring here and then built the road and then never found the spring again once they built the road and now I’m going to have a peach courtesy of Steve who just kept giving me things I feel a little strange when when people want to help out for some reason I feel like I’m taking handouts but I also know I’m not people want to help people like watching the videos and the only thing to do is to be gracious and accept it and be grateful which I am but I’m sure you you you understand it it’s just strange to me not I can’t even put this in words it’s it’s really OD but I know that you know what I mean the key thing I guess is to always have it in mind and I do to to pay it forward and I will I will pay it forward so yeah very I’m very grateful thank you Steve God that’s good I’ll do a smaller bite for just for Ross he’s actually complained it takes me too long to eat stuff and then say what I think of it so here we go lovely really good I was just about to think about going but the level crossing thing train crossing has come down and see as how the trains here are 11 mil long I may as well have a nap it’s like just on this ride today I’ve noticed everything start getting a bit Greener definitely is so I got a foot long I’ve packed out half of it I just checked we got 32 mil to Harrison it’s qu to 5 that should give me plenty of time it’s going to be late but you know I want to get there I think I want to get over the border so I’m going to get moving now this is awesome the road is dead there’s just nothing nothing’s pass me in 5 miles and I’ve got a nice big shoulder this is how to road tour I’m loving this so there we have it Wyoming finished now for Nebraska I think I’m going to miss this rain I think I am it’s fast going I mean we left I keep saying we but it is we because I feel like you’re with me um we left the last place at about4 to 5 and it was 33 miles to get to the next one and now is 10 miles to go and only 5 past 6 so we’re crushing it be proud of yourselves I’m proud of you not you but the rest of you well I’m in Harrison and according to Google Maps this is a donation based camping area looks good to me just wonder if there’s sprinklers it looks very green so I suspect there are I can have a look around I can eat the rest of my sandwich for my dinner and probably get an early night I love these kind of places and I think there’s a store or something in town so maybe I can get some food in the morning so we’ve come 88 miles according to my Wahoo in case you are wondering I reset it last night and loaded the rout and it all works fine again I mean in general this thing has been great every now and then it glitches but what doesn’t so there we go I put my tent in the least likely place for to get sprinkled and if this is the end of the video then thank you for watching please give it a thumbs up it really helps and I will see you in the next one goodbye
In this episode, I make a big change in my journey and switch from the classic Trans America Trail to the Bike Nonstop Route. The decision comes with a mix of excitement and uncertainty as I set off from Dubois, Wyoming, into uncharted territory without the detailed guidance I’ve become used to from the ACA guides for the classic Trans Am. The spontaneity of not knowing where the next services are or what to expect ahead brings a new challenge that takes some getting used to.
The winds of Wyoming don’t make it easy, either. I battle headwinds and crosswinds, at times making progress slow and exhausting. But there are moments of relief, like the occasional tailwind that pushes me forward effortlessly, allowing me to cover some quick miles. Each day brings a new test of patience and endurance, but also a new sense of freedom as I navigate this less-travelled path.
Along the way, I pass through the towns of Riverton, Casper, and Douglas, where I experience a heart warming encounter with a generous subscriber who treats me to a hotel stay and dinner, a much-needed break from the winds and a great reminder of the kindness found on the road. As I continue riding, I push on to cross the Wyoming state line into Nebraska, ending this episode in the small town of Harrison.
Join me as I adapt to this new route, face the challenges of the unknown, and continue the journey across the American heartland. The road ahead is uncertain, but the adventure is just getting started!

missing the B-roll outro with drone close calls 😉
Been following your ride. I am in southern Illinois and would love to get your advice on planning a cross country ride of my own.
love the generosity of the viewers – amazing
Enjoying your adventures very much🎉 keep on keeping on!!
"We" are vicariously living through your adventure, especially those "I" in the trap of working & not brave enough to exit the rat race & go on an extended adventure. Keep up the great content. AWARD for editing these videos. I know it takes many hours and appreciated.🍻👍🏆
Really fun to follow you! My wife thinks I’ve lost it 😂 I’m going to do the GDBMR for my 50th Birthday thanks to you inspiring me ! I need a bike for this. Any recommendations appreciated 🙏🏻🤙🏼🚴
I hope you’re enjoying this adventure Mat! I’m sensing this is becoming a grind. But you’re still very positive and I really appreciate your sense of adventure! Nebraska will be a bit boring but if you are on the Cowboy Trail you’ll have relief from traffic. Keep grinding it out , thank you for taking us along. You’re strong!
Looking forward to your next post.
One thing that could save a bit of weight would be to remove the stock front steel rack & attach your 10L bags directly to the the front forks. The tailfin fork mounts attach via three T25 torque screws that come with their front fork pack mount kit & replace the three original front fork screws on both front forks.
You can account for at least +1 subscriber and many many video views as I gobble up all of your fantastic videos, Mat. I hope you are truly enjoying yourself and that you have a safe and satisfying ride.
Those western highway rumble strips are brutal!
20:28 those were probably grasshoppers, not crickets. Crickets are nocturnal.
Hey Mat, wonder if you'd take a recommendation, when you next take a break day,& have some wifi/ Internet you might check out this kid, his channel is Liam Richard & the vlog is biking 7000 km across eastern Canada. This kid is hard working stoic one tough hombre self taught using the most basic gear & traveling in conditions that the rest of us totally avoid, a must see.
Another fantastic video! Your bike adventures inspired me to ride my first century yesterday. I really wanted to check that off my list before I turn 50 in October. BTW – Perfect timing on the Ottolock unintentional review. I’ve been researching locks and was seriously eyeing up one of those until you cast it firmly into the rubbish category. Enjoy the rest of the ride!
Mat, this week i'm going for a 200 km ride with a cheap and old mtb from 90's. And you know, some days before a big ride it's good to have some great videos to give us a feeling of motivation. Thanks for being such a niche person and create this amazing videos for us! I'm from Brazil.
Thanks. Mat and Ross. I love these videos of Western US states because I have traveled most of these roads by car. Enjoying the view by bike and drone.
Another great video Mat, and Ross 👌
I know what you mean about feeling guilty for accepting free gifts from strangers, but that's maybe indicative of the way you were raised by your parents (that obviously did a great job of it).
I was the same in my early days of travelling, but I soon got over it when I realised that some people, especially in other countries with a different cultural upbringing, were sometimes a bit upset at my refusal.
That, and the fact that it saves money …
Every time I'm almost caught up, Ross does a nightshift 🤣
Take care and enjoy less traffic 😁🚲👍
Thanks!
love your videos thanks
❤
“Funny”…I was wondering what lock you used this whole time. Thanks for sharing all your adventures 🙏 (you always have a spot to crash here in the Bay Area) …pinky wave…
Casper. I forgot there was food like that along the road….😂
Hey Ross, I really appreciate your maps!
Lol, i said the same thing about Paydays in Canada. I brought a bunch back from El Paso with me. They're great. I found parts of Wyoming on the GDMBR mega boring
youve met some super nice people along the way
where we are from, you just dont get help from strangers or support, you can be in pain, on the side of the road and people will just drive passed. that smy experience of cardiff and bristol
10:58 Starboard tack across the vast semiarid steppes. 🌬️
Your anxiety would've been in overdrive if you would've rode with me. I never pay to camp (only stealth/rough camp), charge my phone & lights via bigblue solar panel & batterypack & stop at a truck stop about once every 10 days for a shower & laundry. I just can't bring myself to pay all that money just to sleep. I'd rather spend it on bike parts & food.

Biked into dobois and stayed at same place
Great episode! Glad you shifted over to safer travels.
What gps did you use that lead you on the bike none stop trail
Are. you sure those were crickets? Were they perhaps grass hoppers (locusts)? In Wyoming I'd expect it more likely to be locusts.
Just discovered your channel and I’ve been binging it. Can’t wait to see the next two episodes when you get into Nebraska and Iowa, my home turf! Wish I’d been able to meet you when you came through.
It may have been asked before but what camera and drone are you using…. Love your videos. Thank you !
Hi Mat, have been really enjoying your videos. Very insightful, especially the Bike Non-Stop route. Wasn’t aware it existed. Am planning a cross America trip and was looking for alternatives to the TransAm at least the eastern and middle parts.
Keep up the great work.
Hugh
Mat, what camera did you use on this trip?
As an American (lived most of my life in Iowa, Virginia, and Maryland (with a short 2 years in Ontario, Canada). And I cannot imagine being able to stealth camp wherever. Especially in America and their obsession with guns and "intruders will be shot" signs on private property signs. Some people do it, but it's usually overpriced camp sites or hotels.
Unfortunately my trips are considerably shorter since I’m still working, but I’m too paranoid to tell any one where I’m at lol. I don’t mention where I’ve been till I’m gone. Maybe I need to try the tracker for the fans too lol
Lost spring. Probably built the road over the spring. Haha. Sorry!
Hi Mat, I'm really enjoying your videos. Your TransAmerica Trail videos, which I'm currently watching, are of particular interest to me, since I'm thinking this is something I might like to do, post retirement, a year or two from now. The most intimidating aspect of the ride, as I see it, is the busy roads with no shoulder. I'm not sure I'll be able to enjoy those parts of the ride, and would likely find myself cussing the rude and dangerous drivers who don't give adequate space, under my breath, for however long those conditions lasted. I would love to see the country on a bicycle, and would happily risk the heat and dehydration, severe weather, mechanical frustrations, etc., even grizzly bears, but I'm not sure I want to take the frequent risk of being run over by homocidal or idiot drivers. On approximately how many miles of the trail were you kept in fear of being run over? I'm try to calculate if the really good parts with great roads are worth the risks of those really bad parts with the potentially deadly roads.
I'm glad you accept from others. I met a young man who was walking to the four corners of the country-saw on his facebook he was near my home- I picked up some items for him–offered him some items I had-offered to buy him a meal. Refused everything. His pride made me feel unappreciated.
What's that stick you use to hold up your bike?
Not much “stealth” to camping out on the eastern Wyoming lands!
Not crickets—but grasshoppers (locust related)
As someone who both adventures and helps adventures, you're 'accept with grace' is the perfect position. I live near a remote Sierra portion of the PCT and I offer trail magic and trail angel services regularly during the PCT season. Humans generally love to help others achieve cool things.
Btw, I'm watching your videos in detail to learn from you as I'm putting together a giant adventure of my own — 'box' the USA, human powered. Bike across the top, hike down the AT, bike back across the southern route and hike back up the PCT. I originally planned it when I was 12 years old and was reading and dreaming about the AT and PCT when reading about them in NatGeo. After 50 or so years elapsed, I'm finally in a position to get it done.
While I'm putting my own route together (more gravel than yours), I will be exactly with you at the Lost Springs portion and will think of you in this shelter.
Astute remark about how the original Trans America route has evolved as vehicle traffic has increased over the 60-ish years since it was created. Perhaps the Great American Rail Trail will eventually provide a safer, quieter, largely car-free alternative.
Good job, Steve!
