Wondering how to make the most of the Xiao Wulai Line Day Pass and a YouBike? Today, follow Emily on a journey to explore the most stunning sights of Taoyuan City! Take in the bald cypress trees trees from above— the lush, captivating greenery of Yuemei is simply breathtaking. Even before the leaves turn red, the trees stand gracefully by the shimmering lake. Wander through an old street lined with Baroque- and Minnan-style shophouses— a charming mix of cultures and eras. Try some chewy peanut malt candy, taste the springy tofu snacks, and don’t miss a peanut-ice-cream roll— pure bliss in every bite! Then head up to the Xiao Wulai Skywalk, where breathtaking views await— suspended high above a lush mountain valley. Next stop: the annual Taoyuan City Flower Festival! Stroll through seas of colorful blooms and giant hat installations, celebrating the hometown of legendary singer Fong Fei-Fei. And right before your eyes—the longest suspension bridge in Taiwan! Wouldn’t you love to walk across it yourself? Hi, I’m Emily— When you think of Taoyuan City, is it the busy Aerotropolis by the airport, or a hidden paradise of mountains and lakes? If you enjoyed today’s video, don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share! Your support keeps us inspired to create even better travel stories. Good morning, everyone! It’s Saturday— and Emily’s catching an early train from Taipei to Taoyuan City. Next, she’s heading to the Taoyuan City Bus Terminal to take the Xiao Wulai Line. After exiting the rear gate of Taoyuan City Station, walk a few minutes along Yanping Road— you’ll spot the Taoyuan City Bus Terminal on your right. We’re taking the first bus at 8:30 a.m. today! To buy your ticket, just look for the friendly staff wearing a red vest inside the terminal. It’s only NT$150— and that’s your golden ticket for today’s adventure! This is the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle “Xiao Wulai Line,” Route 502— running exclusively on weekends and holidays. So be sure to plan ahead! The route starts from Taoyuan City Station and ends at the Xiao Wulai Skywalk. Emily’s got her Day Pass, so she can hop on and off as many times as she likes— super convenient! If you’re boarding along the way, there are flexible payment options too— you can pay in cash or simply tap your EasyCard, Senior Card, or iPASS. Easy and seamless! Here’s the plan for today: We’ll first ride straight to the Xiao Wulai Skywalk— our ultimate destination. Then we’ll head back to explore Ciaoban Mountain and Daxi Old Street, and walk over to the Daxi Branch of the Taoyuan City Fire Department— where you’ll find a YouBike station right next door. We’ll hop on a YouBike and ride toward the Taoyuan City Flower Festival! Along the way: the Yuemei Wetlands, and the Zhongzhuang Suspension Bridge. Emily’s time-management skills are on point— you’re guaranteed a day full of unforgettable memories! Here we are — the final stop! It took us about 90 minutes to get here. Don’t forget — this is also where you’ll catch the bus back later! Just walk straight ahead, then turn right. Okay~ thank you! The entrance to the Xiao Wulai Skywalk is right here by the parking lot. I’ve heard weekends can get really crowded— so Emily set out early from Taipei this morning just to catch the very first Taiwan Tourist Shuttle bus on the Xiao Wulai Line. Looks like that plan worked— it’s so quiet right now! Tickets for two normally cost NT$100, but with the “redeemed ticket” stamp— if you don’t have it, it’s NT$100; with the stamp, you save NT$40! Since we’ve got the Xiao Wulai Line Day Pass, we saved NT$40 for two people! So remember to show your bus ticket to the staff— they’ll stamp it for you! Behind the ticket booth, there are two paths into the scenic area. Emily’s taking the one through the revolving gate— it’s closer to the river valley, and the view’s more beautiful! Inside, there’s also a wading area and the Yunei River Hot Spring Pool— the *only* officially approved riverside swimming area in Taoyuan City! It’s supervised by professional lifeguards too. However, it’s open only during specific seasons and hours— so make sure to check before your visit! (Trial operation: Apr 26 – end of 2025) (Free hot spring access with a Xiao Wulai ticket!) Here’s a fun fact! In the Atayal language, “Wulai” means “hot spring.” The Yunei River Hot Spring here is a natural sodium bicarbonate spring— locals say it makes your skin soft and silky smooth, which is why it’s nicknamed “The Beauty Hot Spring.” Up ahead is the famous Xiao Wulai Skywalk! Come on—let’s experience it together! Be sure to keep your ticket— you’ll need it again for other spots later on. First, let’s check out this incredible boulder called “Wind-Moving Rock.” It only touches the ground on a tiny 0.5-square-meter area— yet it stands firmly atop solid sandstone right above the Xiao Wulai Waterfall. It leans slightly, as if it could topple at any moment, and even sways gently in the wind— that’s why it’s called “Wind-Moving Rock.” Now, the Skywalk—this is amazing! Its base is made of reinforced glass, and the walkway stretches 11 meters out into the open air. From the glass platform, 70 meters above the waterfall’s base, you’ll get a stunning bird’s-eye view of the Xiao Wulai Gorge— and the roaring waterfall right beneath your feet. It’s a breathtaking 360-degree experience like no other! Quick tip before you go— cross the bridge and just keep walking uphill! There are restrooms here too, so take a quick break if you need to before we move on! Here it is — the *Sky Rope Bridge*! Unlike those glass skywalks that test your nerves with transparent floors— this bridge offers a totally different kind of thrill. It’s only wide enough for one person at a time, probably around one meter across. I didn’t make it across the Xiaowulai Skywalk earlier 😅 But since I’m already here— there’s no turning back. If I don’t cross, I’ll miss all the stunning views on the other side! This suspension bridge stretches 70 meters long— and hangs about 50 meters above the valley. Below lies the magnificent Dali Creek Gorge. It can support up to 120 tons in weight. But when people walk on it from both ends— you can definitely feel it sway! Made it! I’m across! Let’s go through this turnstile and keep exploring. When you reach the fork in the trail— remember to take the path on the right through the rock cave. That’s where we’ll find the *Dragon Waterfall*! It’s been raining a lot recently, so the water is roaring today— absolutely breathtaking! Here I’m surrounded by the “three treasures” of the forest— phytoncides, negative ions, and oxygen-rich air. Just one deep breath and my whole body feels refreshed and renewed. Instant relaxation and a boost of pure energy! Let’s head back— to the fork leading to the *Peace Suspension Bridge*. Next stop: *Phoenix Waterfall*! If you want to catch both the Dragon and Phoenix Waterfalls in one view— you’ve got to climb up to this viewing platform. Emily’s camera caught it all beautifully— let’s share it with everyone! Now we’ll take these steps up— to reach the exit near the Sky Rope Bridge. Wasn’t that light, fun, and refreshing? On our way back— the entrance to the Xiaowulai Skywalk is already packed! The closer we get to the park exit— the more people are coming in waves. I came in around 10 a.m.— and now I’m catching the 11:30 bus. So glad I took the very first bus this morning! If I’d come any later— I’d be squeezed in with all the tour groups by now! Next, we’re heading to the *Jiaobanshan Shopping District*! There are only four of us on the bus, including me. I really think this route is such a hidden gem— it’s amazing that so few people take it! What a shame. You’ve got to try it next time you visit! No driving needed—just sit back and enjoy the scenery. It’s convenient, relaxing, and totally worth it. We’ve arrived at *Jiaobanshan*! Let’s stroll around the local shops first. 🎵 “You ask how deep my love is, how much I really care…” 🎵 🎵 “My love is true and never fades, the moon represents my heart.” 🎵 Let’s give them a big round of applause! 👏 👏👏👏 Jiaobanshan enjoys a mild climate year-round— it’s even nicknamed the “Lushan of Taiwan.” Because it’s set on higher ground, you can take in both the terraced plains of Xikou and the Shimen Reservoir in one glance. Simply breathtaking! This market opened back in 1975— and we started as small-scale wholesalers. We already had our own clients. Before that, we did business in Taipei’s Dihua Street. Look at these shiitake mushrooms— aren’t they beautiful? Always fresh, always top quality. This is how they’re originally cultivated. So where are these grown? They’re seasonal mushrooms— when they’re out of season here, we import them from overseas. We handle both local and imported varieties— that’s the advantage of wholesale. These ones here are locally grown— and those are imported. See? Taiwan mushrooms— fresh and full of flavor! Let me show you— yes, all from Taiwan! During the Japanese era, Jiaobanshan was a restricted area. Many mountain areas were still undeveloped back then— and wild mushrooms grew everywhere. That’s how— “Jiaobanshan Mushrooms” became famous all over Taiwan. It’s lunchtime! Emily found online a super popular local eatery with amazing reviews. This little restaurant blends Indigenous Taiwanese flavors with classic Hakka-style dishes. The streets around Ciaoban Mountain shopping area were quiet, yet this place was packed! Business was booming. We ordered a few of their signature dishes. First up—the stir-fried wild boar with scallions, perfectly chewy and bursting with aroma. Next, the Toona Egg Omelet—made with dried and crushed Toona leaves. It has such a unique aroma! Next, crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside “Double Mushroom Tempura.” And of course, the soft, sticky, chewy “Bamboo Tube Rice,” gently infused with a light bamboo aroma. Overall, it was such a satisfying, hearty meal! After lunch, we headed straight to Ciaoban Mountain Park. Here, you’ll find two banyan trees planted by Chiang Kai-shek and his wife. They’re famously known as the “Couple Trees.” During winter, the park also blooms with beautiful plum blossoms— a sight you definitely shouldn’t miss! 🤩 Right beside the park is the entrance to the “Xinxikou Suspension Bridge,” but it’s currently closed for renovation until December 31, 2025. So Emily couldn’t film this time— something to look forward to on your next visit! On our way back, we took a sloped path down beside the local health center. At the end of the trail, right next to Ciaoban Mountain Guesthouse, lies a hidden gem— the “War Preparation Tunnel.” It once served as a military command post for former President Chiang Kai-shek. Built in 1963 during a time of great tension, the 100-meter tunnel walls are now lined with vivid 3D murals that bring you back to the 1950s military era. Exiting the tunnel and walking just a few more minutes, we returned to the same spot where we got off earlier, ready to catch the bus to Daxi Old Street. Once we arrived at Daxi Old Street, Emily was immediately drawn to a stall at the entrance— selling “Tofu Cake Waffles”! Have you ever tried these? The owner is seriously creative— combining Daxi’s famous black tofu with soft, sweet waffles— a combo that sounds odd but totally works! It’s a hidden gem for sure. The mix of savory and sweet flavors was surprisingly good. Though Emily thought it could be even better if the tofu flavor were a bit stronger— so it doesn’t get covered by the waffle’s aroma. The real reason we stopped here, though, is because I absolutely love their signature “Daxi Black Tofu.” The outer layer is thick and firm, while the inside is soft, chewy, and filled with rich soybean flavor. You definitely can’t miss this place — *Little Town Tofu Pudding*! Emily ordered the “Tofu Pudding with Toppings.” You can pick any three toppings for just 50 NTD! The handmade tofu pudding is silky smooth with a rich soybean aroma. Every bite brings back the nostalgic taste of childhood. Next, we stopped by *Tsai’s Handmade Malt Peanut Candy.* Everything here is made fresh right on-site. It’s crispy like a flaky pastry, and every bite is a perfect harmony of sweet malt syrup and fragrant ground peanuts. Malt Peanut Candy— you can just pick it up and eat it! 😋 The best part? It doesn’t stick to your teeth, and it stretches beautifully when pulled! If you walk into the alley *on the left side* of *Furen Temple,* you’ll find the former residence of Taiwan’s legendary “Hat Diva,” **Fong Fei-fei.** If you go in *from the right side* of the temple instead, you’ll see a series of steps leading down. Walk all the way down, cross the road toward the *CPC gas station*, and just a short walk ahead, you’ll reach the *Daxi Fire Department of Taoyuan City City*. There are plenty of YouBikes nearby. (Station name: *YouBike Yuemei Station*) You can easily rent one there. There’s even a public restroom next to the YouBike station— super convenient if you need a quick stop! Once you’ve got your bike, head to the right, and ride straight along the road toward the *Taoyuan City Flower Festival* grounds. Emily turned right onto *Lane 173, Yuemei Road*, and rode straight to the main flower field and stage area. (This year’s Taoyuan City Flower Festival runs from **November 1 to November 16, 2025.**) This year’s theme is *“The Pride of Daxi,”* celebrating the beloved singer **Fong Fei-fei.** Colorful blooms fill the fields, complemented by stunning art installations— a dreamy blend of hats, music, and flowers that capture the spirit of Daxi. I heard that during planting season, it happened to rain a lot, so some flowers haven’t fully bloomed yet. But don’t worry— because… the festival has been extended until **November 16**, just in time for a full bloom! By then, the flower fields will be absolutely breathtaking. 🌸 Right next to the Taoyuan City Flower Festival venue you’ll find a hidden historical gem full of old-world charm — the Li Teng-fang Historic Residence, a National Historic Site. Its traditional layout, feng shui, and intricate decorations are incredibly well preserved, and every corner radiates the timeless beauty of a classic Taiwanese mansion. This residence also tells the story of early Han families who built their legacy in Daxi. Li Teng-fang himself was a highly respected figure — he passed the Imperial Scholar (Xiucai) exam in 1856, and later achieved the Provincial Scholar (Juren) title in 1865. On the stone flagpole base in the front courtyard, you can still see the carvings marking the year, category, and ranking of his exam success — a true symbol of honor and prestige in those times, bringing glory to both his family and his hometown. Next, head over to Lane 235, Yuemei Road, where you’ll discover an absolutely charming little spot — Grandma Yuemei’s Organic Farm. Here, Grandma raises chickens, ducks, and geese naturally and free-range, letting them roam freely in a green, healthy environment. Visitors can even feed them by hand — a fun experience for all ages! It’s perfect for families to enjoy together, and to experience the simple joys of rural life. Plus, the food here is amazing! When you’re visiting, don’t miss the chance to grab a meal here. Try their Danzi noodles, and a variety of braised snacks, including tofu and more. They also have delicious preserved fruits, and refreshing roselle drinks… Inside the farm, you’ll find Grandma Yuemei’s Kitchen, offering handmade noodles, wontons, and a variety of local side dishes. If you’re looking for a relaxing weekend getaway, this place is truly a hidden gem! Next, we’re heading to our next stop, **Yuemei Artificial Wetland**. (*The famous Bald Cypress Avenue at Yuemei Wetland*) Back in 2019, over 300 water-loving bald cypress trees trees were planted here. Every autumn and winter, the leaves transform from lush green to fiery red. Emily’s visit this time found everything still a vibrant green, but the reflections in the water already make it impossible to look away. Plus, the water looks much cleaner than before, making the scenery even more magical. From above, you can see the entire wetland ecosystem connected beautifully, with hundreds of bald cypress treeses mirrored in the shimmering water, creating an upside-down magical world. Imagine the seasonal change, as green slowly turns to red — it must be absolutely dreamy! If you want to witness the full spectrum of colors, the best time to visit is December, when the bald cypress treeses are bursting with vibrant autumn hues. Let’s hop on our **YouBikes** and continue exploring! Here we are at the parking lot of **Dahan River Shan Zhu Lake Ecological Waterfront Park**. Wow — this place is fantastic! There’s also a **YouBike rental station** here, and restrooms nearby — super convenient. This bridge is the famous **Zhong Zhuang Suspension Bridge**. Stretching 419 meters long, it’s one of Taiwan’s rare **suspension pedestrian bridges**, spanning across the Dahan River. From the bridge, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the wide, flowing river. Cyclists, take note — you’ll need to **dismount and walk your bike across the bridge**. For those who love to ride, the riverside paths are perfect too, offering a smooth ride with scenic riverside views. It’s truly so relaxing! We’re heading back now! First, let’s ride back to the bike rental spot next to the fire station. Time to return our bikes at YouBike Yuemei Station. Do you remember the spot where we came down the steps from Daxi Old Street? That’s where we’ll catch the 5096 bus to Daxi Old Street Station. Don’t forget to show the driver our “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Xiao Wulai Line One-Day Pass.” With this pass, you can ride for free—so convenient! Actually, it’s only one stop from here to Daxi Old Street Station. You could even walk back if you prefer. I think it’s really close. Walking back is totally doable. It’s such a short distance, you’ll barely notice the walk. Honestly, I find it really convenient. We’ve arrived at Daxi Old Street Station. While Emily waits for the “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Xiao Wulai Line” to take us back to Taoyuan City Bus Terminal, I headed to “Qi Mei Tang” right next to the bus stop to grab the ultimate cooling treat: Herbal Jelly Shaved Ice. Hello everyone! This “Taiwan Tourist Shuttle Xiao Wulai Line” is incredibly punctual. The 5:58 bus arrived just 2 or 3 minutes off—amazing! Really impressive service. The bus was about 80% full. We hit a little traffic on the way, so we got back to Taoyuan City Bus Terminal around 6:50 PM. (Scheduled arrival was 6:40 PM) Emily took a short nap earlier, and now we’re ready to head out for dinner! After arriving at the station, we walked about 12 minutes to the intersection of Zhonghua Road and Nanhua Road, where “Honmono Western Restaurant Taoyuan City Zhonghua Branch” is located for dinner. This “Honmono Western Restaurant” is highly recommended online. It’s delicious and very affordable! We ordered the “Fried Chicken Hiroshima-style Spaghetti,” “Tomato Fried Chicken Spaghetti,” and some miso soup. Here’s the Herbal Jelly Shaved Ice I got at Qi Mei Tang while waiting for the bus earlier. Wow—it’s almost 8 PM now! Just like people online said, “Even after all this time, it hasn’t completely melted.” That’s pretty incredible! And it really tastes amazing too. At 8:58, as the train arrives, we’re about to return to Taipei Songshan Station. Today, we set off from Taipei and journeyed deep into forests and valleys. From Xiao Wulai, where waterfalls meet lush mountains, to the lively and charming Daxi Old Street. We soared through vast landscapes, and wandered along the green corridors lined with bald cypress trees trees. At that moment, we felt small, yet incredibly free. Our hearts were deeply touched. I realized that the true meaning of travel isn’t about how far you go, but about what you find along the way. It’s about rediscovering the wonder and warmth that everyday life makes us forget. Every view feels like a breath for the soul, and every moment lets you be your truest self. I’m Emily, and if you enjoyed today’s journey with me, please subscribe, like, and share. Don’t forget to hit the notification bell! See you in the next episode~
