ISHIGAKI island OKINAWA

Hello! This is a vlog from my husband and I about our 3-night, 4-day trip to Ishigaki Island. We arrived late at night and went to three different restaurants for dinner in the city. On Day 2, we took a day trip to Taketomi Island. On Day 3, we went on a motorcycle tour and spent time at the beach. On Day 4, we enjoyed the great outdoors at Hirakubo Eco Road, our first time! This is my fourth trip to Ishigaki Island as a couple! It takes just 3.5 hours to get there on a direct flight from Haneda Airport. I’m back♡ This time, we’re on an evening flight. First, we went to the hotel. There’s a bus from the airport to the city center that’s convenient for our flight. We were going out drinking downtown on the first day, so we booked a hotel with easy access. Everything seemed to be going smoothly, but then, on the bus, my husband realized he’d left his wallet on the plane… I called and they found it, so we decided to go get it the next day. That’s great! Get off one stop before the final stop, the remote island terminal. A hotel with easy access to both the city center and the remote island terminal. It looks like it used to be a nursing home. I strolled through the arcade on my way to my reservation. Euglena (green algae) is famous for being cultivated extensively in Ishigaki. The convenience store lineup is also Okinawa-inspired! ⭐︎ There are few streetlights, so it’s pitch black. This restaurant serves original Ishigaki cuisine, and it’s been my favorite since my last visit. It’s also listed in Tabelog’s 2024 Top 100 Restaurants. We recommend making a reservation beforehand. Homemade medicinal syrup. A small restaurant with counter and table seating. A legendary drinker who’s a safe bet for overindulgence Creative cuisine featuring an abundance of island ingredients Choosing the menu is also fun ♡ I ordered awamori. Apparently they’ve discontinued production, so this is the only item currently available. Yushi Tofu Appetizer Island Okra Wrapped in Shiso Leaves North Sea Fish Carpaccio Deep-fried Jimami Tofu (Delicious♡) Boiled Dumpling Salad Blanched Island Vegetables Cold Steamed Yanbaru Chicken Thanks for the meal! On to the second stop! Another Latin bar I’m visiting again. First of all, the interior is simply stunning. A variety of decorations apparently brought from Mexico. Wonderful The counter tiles are cute. The conversation about Mexico with the owner was also exciting. And of course, we had some mezcal at the end. I’ll definitely come back!!! Another snack bar I’m returning to. This is a hidden gem that was recommended by the restaurant staff the last time I visited Ishigaki Island. Their specialty is goat soup. The garlic is amazing! ⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎ Covered in fried eggs! ⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎ (I don’t remember this part.) I became good friends with a guy from Nagoya! ⭐︎⭐︎⭐︎ I drank a lot on the first day. Thank you for your hard work! Day 2: Day Trip to Taketomi Island Purchase same-day tickets at the remote island terminal and board the ferry. Taketomi Island departs about once every 30 minutes. I fell down a step at a snack bar last night and hurt my jaw. So I’m hiding it. LOL We arrived about 20 minutes after departure. Once we arrived at the port, a sparkling ocean awaited us!!! To get around by bicycle, we first rented a bicycle.
There are plenty of bicycle rental shops on the island. There were electric bicycles available, but we stuck with the standard ones. We chose a two-hour itinerary that was sure to be enjoyable! Exploring the island’s unique scenery The original Okinawan landscape of red-tiled houses and hibiscus blossoms spreads before us. There are probably quite a few tourists, but the roads are smooth! ⭐︎ Encountering Taketomi Island’s famous water buffalo carts Thank you for your hard work in this heat! Gorgeous bananas🍌 It’s lunchtime and a break! We went to a Yaeyama soba restaurant. The interior has the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese house. We had the classic Yaeyama soba. My husband had shrimp soba with a strong dashi broth. After a nice break, we resumed our stroll! The sun is shining brightly on Ishigaki Island in September, and it’s incredibly hot!!! We decided to head to the beach. The most popular beach on Taketomi Island. The water is so clear, you can see all the way to the horizon! The seawater temperature is surprisingly high! It wasn’t lukewarm at all, it was actually a little warm…☺︎ A calm beach, perfect for a relaxing day. The tide had gone out, and we were able to access the beach further back. We resumed our stroll. Finally, we visited a traditional Japanese cafe. The atmosphere was truly Okinawan. A comfortable, well-ventilated seat. I thoroughly enjoyed myself! I’m heading back to return my bike. It’s hot and sunny in the summer, so a two-hour stroll is plenty of fun! I spotted a cow!! I spotted a goat!! I returned my bike and headed back to the port. I’d purchased a round-trip ticket in advance, so I handed it over and boarded the ferry. I returned on a larger ferry. Goodbye, Taketomi Island!!! Ominous rain clouds over Ishigaki Island… It was crowded on the way back, so we enjoyed the view from the deck!
It’s not too rocky, so I don’t get seasick. There are various boats near the remote island terminal. I’m going to check out ingredients for tonight’s BBQ. I love getting around the island by motorbike.♡ I always visit the largest market on Ishigaki Island. There are also many unique island ingredients. Island okra is a must★ I always buy island scallions too. Guava is also super cheap. Arrived at my lodging for the night! A villa-like accommodation near Fusaki Resort Hotel The front garden is spacious. A spacious living room. A kitchen more comfortable than home. A Japanese-style room (approximately 4 tatami mats) with access to a deck. Bedroom 1 It’s too big for two people…! We didn’t use the other bedroom. Went to Fusaki to watch the sunset. Sugarcane fields everywhere. We won’t be staying overnight, but we’ll be visiting as visitors. Made it before sunset! The last few sunsets at Fusaki have been cloudy, so I wonder how it will be today. The carefully maintained plants are typical of a resort hotel. I’m relaxing and waiting for the sun to go down. A great view, no matter when you come. It’s starting to get quite cloudy. I’ve never rang that bell before.☺︎ Swimming is prohibited after dark, so no one’s swimming. A glimpse of the sun peeking through the clouds! The clouds finally disappeared! See you tomorrow.♡ Back at the inn, preparing for the BBQ! All equipment is rented! We only procured charcoal and ingredients. The fire is ready and we’re grilling! Island vegetables Ishigaki beef too♡ There were no bugs outside, so we enjoyed a BBQ! Gecko invaders!!! Good night⭐︎ Next door is a monument called the Tojinbaka. Checking out! No plans! Touring Ishigaki Island is so fun! The sky and greenery are so beautiful and relaxing. I came to see the only Yaeyama palm trees that grow in abundance on Ishigaki Island. They’re about 20 meters tall and impressive! It’s truly a tropical jungle! The roads are well maintained and easy to walk on. The open beach is also beautiful. Lunchtime. Vietnamese food again. Since I was so close, I decided to visit a scenic spot. It’s been a while since I’ve been to Kabira Bay, and it’s still so beautiful! A lone mangrove tree I passed by. As you can see, it’s a lone tree growing in the ocean. A few people came to take photos of this surreal scene. The sun is so strong, a rash guard is a must while traveling. They have rice fields! They grow rice! It’s cafe time! They also sell their own original beans. So cute! ♡ The interior has a relaxing atmosphere. BBQ tonight! Out to buy ingredients Purchased Ishigaki beef Next, went to the fishmonger Got some tuna After shopping, headed to my lodging for the night You can choose between a cottage or a container, and I’ll stay in a cottage this time. Cute, warm wooden interior with a loft. Two beds. Fully equipped kitchen. There’s also a bed in the loft. Spacious enough for two people. Apparently, there’s a beach nearby with no name. Through the bushes, here we go! A private beach for your exclusive use☺︎ Relax and relax A unique way to spend time at a resort that you can’t experience every day I couldn’t capture it, but a peacock popped out from the back! LOL I went back to my room and then came back to the beach just in time for the sunset. I’m so happy to see the beautiful sunset! Thank you, sun, for today! We went back and started the BBQ! The sounds of the insects and birds were horrifying, but we were safe inside the mosquito net. The BBQ equipment was an additional charge, but I was grateful that they had the latest equipment. Look at this, the okra is huge!! Of course I eat mozuku seaweed every day. I’ll also have Ishigaki beef ♡ There’s always staff on-site at the front desk, and they offer drink service. Thank you very much. The only awamori I bought this time was Yaima. The fish were big, too. We always buy more than we can eat. The gecko’s belly is so cute. Thank you for always making such delicious food…♡ I woke up after 2 a.m. to stargaze, and there were so many stars! I even saw a shooting star! I’m enjoying the breakfast included in my plan! The basket is so cute! I made fried eggs with the leftover eggs (failed) It was a fun cottage stay! Thank you! I left my luggage there and decided to go back for the first time. We’re heading to Hirakubo Eco Road, a beautiful natural landscape in northern Ishigaki. Apparently, the road is narrow and unpaved. The gates are manual because of the animals. The road is already bumpy!!! I continued on, hoping to avoid any oncoming traffic. The beach stretches out on the east side of the Hirakubo Peninsula. I encountered an oncoming vehicle only once. A Jungle Cruise-like world. Apparently, cows are grazing here, but I can’t find a single one. >< There’s dung everywhere, so I’m sure they’re there… It’s so vast, I can’t find any cows… Further on, there’s another gate. I knew from advance information that the road ahead would be even more difficult. I decided to walk around to check things out! By the way, I couldn’t get a signal! Nothing in particular happened! There were no cows there, so we quickly retreated!!! The barn door was open, so they must have been out there somewhere. But I couldn’t sense any sign, sound, or smell anything. It was a shame, because cows were one of my goals. Touring the great outdoors was so much fun, so I’m glad I didn’t miss it. ♡ Since I was close, I headed to the observation deck on the eastern side of the island. To Tamatorizaki Observatory for the spectacular view. The trail is paved with walkways and is easily accessible from the parking lot. Panoramic views of the ocean and islands⭐︎ It’s great during the day, but we also recommend visiting late at night for a better view of the stars.
On a clear day, you’ll see plenty of shooting stars! A landscape that will leave you feeling at peace. We even spotted a pony along the way! Relaxed island life is great! The last meal of the trip was a return visit to island soba. A lively and popular restaurant. I tried their famous mozuku soba. ♡ Just as I left the restaurant, a downpour hit. The sky was bright, but it was raining heavily! To a nearby gelato shop The exterior is so Japanese it almost feels like a sushi restaurant. Several flavors made with Okinawan ingredients are available. Took a quick stroll through the arcade. A lovely shop selling Ryukyu glass…♡ I have some at home, so I’ll hold off this time. I got a latte at the same coffee shop I visited the day before. I finally made it to the InterContinental Hotel. Maesato Beach at the InterContinental Hotel is also a famous beach in Ishigaki. I walked through a bush-lined arcade… A shallow, calm beach. It’s a shame there are so many artificial things scattered around. SUPing looks fun! My flight time is approaching, so I’m heading out! Returned the rental bike and headed to the airport. If I take an evening flight, I can enjoy it until the last minute! ⭐︎ Ishigaki Island is always fascinating, no matter how many times I visit. ♡ See you soon! ♡♡
