Postcard from Vanlife in Japan. A bike ride round the lakes & an encounter with monkeys
Welcome to today’s postcard from Japan. We started with sunshine, unloaded the bikes, and set off on the Wacasa Bay cycle route. A stunning start taking us along the coast into this beautiful little fishing village. Can you believe this? First day out on the bikes and we’re just taking a ride around little lakes and this is we’ve just started and it’s absolutely spectacular just right on the north coast aren’t we? So the sea is just behind. Yeah. Just over Abby, this sea yet literally there’s these freshwater lakes just in land. And again, we just knocked backwards how quiet, how beautiful this place is. And it’s just us and the hardworking fishermen. Quite lovely. This is a fish farm on the banks of the lakes. Look how many people are fishing because they feed the fish in the nets and all the wild fish must come in. So the local anglers benefit from that. It was such a spectacular day to be out on the bikes. The light on the water. We turned off and went along this side road. left the bikes at the side of the road and just sat watching the lake and this incredible view of the mountains the far side trying not to disturb the herand on again past these thatched boat houses dating back to the plum trade from the 1900s. And then we were stopped in our track by these a troop of monkeys. They were as fascinated by us as we were by them. We just couldn’t believe it. All we could do is stop and watch. As they watched us, what a delightful way to end this ride. They were so lovely. So we settled down after with a trip to the onson and an evening walk overlooking the sea. [Music] The light was so soft it was lovely. visited a little shrine picture postcard perfect and a Tory gate out at sea which was framed beautifully by this sea cave. A glorious end to another day. See what tomorrow brings.
Today’s little postcard from Japan and we’re still buzzing after our encounter with monkeys….
.
Finally, we got the bikes out today and took a ride around the Wakasa Bay Cycle Route, along the coast, and around 5 lakes.
.
A stunning ride, on a spectacular day and we were stopped in our tracks by a family of monkeys. We watched them, as they watched us and it was such a special encounter…
.
All being well, we’ll be back on the bikes tomorrow, but today really was rather special .

That's a glorious day for sure! And monkeys! What a surprising treat! Are they the famous Snow Monkeys? So interesting to see all these unexpected sights. Love the thatched roof boat houses. They look right out of a fairy tale of old. TFS once again.
