CRAZY! Blown Away That This Is Vietnam!! 🇻🇳 (Bike Touring Vietnam #1)
We are ready to go. Let’s do this. Let’s tour Vietnam. First though, I’m hanging out with
my buddy here drinking some tea. Yeah. I came here a couple days ago
cuz uh I saw them grilling up some good looking meat and uh
they’re grilling up some duck. Anyways, I’m going to enjoy some
tea and then we’ll get on the road. All right. And what I really want to have before I get
on the road is my favorite coffee drink. Good morning, cafe trung. They know. They know. Yeah, man. This right here. So good. There’s this creamy egg whipping on
top of the black coffee underneath. It’s so freaking good. Oh man. So good. It’s so good. Man, still got some flooding. Wow. So, before we get on the road, I got
to try some of Hanoi’s famous bun ca And I think I found a good place. Like, it looks legit. Nice and juicy pork dripping down. Oh man, I’m kind of kicking myself for
staying for so long at that Airbnb out there because there was just not much to eat. All the food and action is well
obviously in the middle of the north. I didn’t know that. I didn’t realize there wouldn’t
be that many options out there. And so with the typhoons and a lot of
things being closed, it’s been a long week. Some garlic. And uh I got me a haircut
yesterday if you can’t tell. Pretty sure. Pretty sure that guy sliced
me up, but it’ll grow back. It’ll grow back, man. Oh, yeah. Oh, man. Kept looking for this where I was
staying, but couldn’t find it. It’s all in the city. Kind of like a a nice sweet savory taste. The broth is good. Come on. Thank you. Thank you. So tasty. I had to order myself a second helping. No more noodles though. Just still got some some noodles here. But man, this soup is tasty. And the bowls aren’t that big,
so I think I can handle it. So good. So good. See, this is where I should have moved
to after maybe two or three days. A lot more options out here, man. And that only cost 55,000 dong,
which is I don’t know, cheap. Like maybe $2 if that. Check it out. Here in Hanoi, they have a
John McCain statue memorial. He was shot down in 1967 and was a POW for 5 and a half years here in North Vietnam. Man, Hanoi is pretty beautiful. Oh, look at that. Right in the middle of the city. Watch out. I love it. Lake on both sides. It’s clean. Got dudes out here fishing, enjoying themselves. Nice helmet. So, I don’t think any trip to Hanoi would be complete without visiting
Ho Chi Minh’s burial site. This is where he laid us to rest. This is where he gave his independent speech in 1945, September 2nd. Fascinating story. Just like Sukarno, just like so
many independence leaders during that time period, this guy spoke
like five different languages. Lived all over the world and he helped defeat the French and then unfortunately already passed away uh before the Vietnam War ended,
the American Vietnam War ended. And so, but man, this guy’s
life story is incredible. Very similar to that of Sakarno in Indonesia. Both were incredibly well-liked by the people. Both had a way of just connecting
with the ordinary person. What’s even more wild is that you
learn that he lived like 30 years of his life outside of Vietnam from I
believe 1919 to something like 1941. He wasn’t even in Vietnam. That’s when he traveled all over the world. He lays to rest here. And so I think it’s only appropriate to uh to come
here before I set out on my tour around Vietnam. I think one of the most interesting things about Ho Chi Min’s life, his journey was his
relationship with the United States. It went from a position of admiration, respect, you know, he firmly believed that the United
States would back his cause because, well, let’s not forget America was also formed by a revolution, by breaking free of its colonizers. And so he thought that well the
United States would have his back. And at first it actually kind of looked like that. Roosevelt had said, and I’m paraphrasing, something like all countries should be
able to govern whichever way they like. And so this was coming at
the end of World War II when uh you know the days of colonialism were were looking like they had seen its last days. Even though the Dutch went back to Indonesia, the French came back here, the
English went back to India Uh they were trying really hard to hold on to
their colonies, but in the end they did lose them. But yeah, Ho Chi Min, he was hoping that uh the United States, he thought that the
United States would support his cause. But Truman came into power. Roosevelt died and basically reversed
all of Roosevelt’s policies, his ideas, and was like, you know, we’re
going to go down a different path. And so it went from somebody who was
really hoping the United States would back his cause to, well, in the end,
fighting against the United States. And so that whole transition
to me is really fascinating. We’ve uh we’ve seen this story too many times. I feel like every single country I go to in
Southeast Asia, it’s pretty much all the same. Colonizers rule the country. Japan takes over for a short time. Then there’s a power vacuum. That country declares its independence and then fights off the colonizers who try to
come back and then it’s just a mess. It’s just a mess. And it’s fascinating to learn
about all the characters, all the things that took place and how that era really shaped the countries today, you know, and it’s important not to forget and it was
important to uh to learn about that history. And so we’re going to explore a
lot in Vietnam and I’m excited to share more about that time period and uh yeah. Okay, let’s get on out of here. Man, just makes you wonder what did this look
like at the height of the French colonial rule. You know, like all these buildings, clean,
pristine, they actually don’t look too bad. They’ve been reformed and
preserved to to an extent. But man, places like Kota Tua in Jakarta just
makes you wonder, man, what do they look like? Damn, what a wall. I’m guessing that’s the
edge of the French Quarter. Pretty amazing sight. Wow. The Red River Delta. All right. So, the plan for the rest of the day,
we’re going to try to get out of Hanoi. And the first place I want to
go to is Hai Phong and then Ha Long. But it’s already 1:30. Ain’t no way I’m going to make it there today. And so we’re going to go about halfway. And so we’ll see how far I make it. Looks like there’s a bunch of towns
and cities in between here and Hai Phong And so we’ll just go with the flow. Kind of like my belly right now. Got me some medicine, but something
got me right after I ate lunch. I’m sure you guys want to hear about that, but
that’s that’s a part of traveling like this, man. Happens to me in every country. Even happens to me back home
when I go to the States. And so, it’s like it’s not really
it’s just a a change of diet, getting acquainted to the bacteria here, I guess. But man, never fun. Never fun. What are you talking about, Nick? It’s always fun. That’s part of it. Part of traveling. Coconuts. Are those good for your stomach? Wow. Is all I have to say about this? I kind of pulled off the wrong street, but
then I saw this and I was like, “Wait a second. Got to go check this out. This is crazy.” So, I just looked it up. This is Vin University. It was built in 2019, so it’s not that old. I wonder if we can go in. can I ride my bike? No. No. Wow. It’s uh beautiful. Looks like uh looks like Italy. Looks like Rome. Just busted out Chat GPT. It says it was established by Vin Group, one
of Vietnam’s largest private conglomerates. And then right across the street you have
I think these are what’s called vin homes which those look like the most modern urban
apartment buildings I’ve seen in Vietnam so far. It feels like I’m in a completely different world right now compared to where I was 20 minutes ago. Wow. And when you cut back into the neighborhood, you
realize that a lot of these I think are empty. Oh, nice pool over there. But, uh, yeah, some of them, yeah, obviously
lived in, but there there’s another empty one. Man, this is pretty wild. I did not expect to end up in a place like this. Crazy. This is a huge development. If anyone knows what this place is all
about, anyone has any added information about what’s going on here, how long it’s
been here, uh would love to hear about it. Please comment below. Crazy. What a bizarre place. Hey, Seoul There’s a beach over there, but there’s
also signs that say no swimming. So, come lay out on the beach,
but don’t get in the water. To be honest, I think at
least 25% or more are empty. There’s a lot of empty places. Man, what a place. What a place. 100% did not expect to see
something like this in Hanoi. Nobody on the beach. I haven’t seen anyone out. Maybe it’s the time of year. Maybe it is Wednesday, almost 3:00. But I mean, if you can’t
swim, then what’s the point? Okay. And so there are two lakes or two
swimming holes, maybe two beaches. And this one over here looks like you can swim. Water looks a little clearer. Not much activity. Not much activity over here. Man. What a project. All right, I’m hungry. Let’s get some food. So, let’s get some food in the most
expensive place I’ve seen in Vietnam so far. I mean, that looks fun. On sand beach complex. You got a bar up there. Restaurant. Maybe. The water looks good over here. Come on, man. Looks good. Looks good. Okay. I think it’s a bun ca kind of day. Hey, this is more like it. This is uh more the kind of stuff I want to see. At the same time, I did enjoy going through that uh Vin Group neighborhood or
whatever you want to call it. It’s crazy. Crazy place. Half abandoned, half kind of open. Uh I don’t know what to make of it, honestly. Hey, come get your shoes here. Damn. Now this guy is carrying a load right here. Or lady, I spoke too soon. All right, that’s what I’m looking at. Got about 32 kilometers and I think I’ll be on this long straight stretch of road
for a while, which is not too bad. Nicely paved. Got plenty of room over here on the right. A lot of trucks though, but not too bad so far. Don’t mind me. Don’t mind me. I don’t know if you can hear it, but there’s just this magical music being played from
somewhere in that village over there. Feels like I’m in the middle of a movie
trying to romanticize my trip right here. Welcome to Vietnam. There’s a guy out there tending to his
harvest, walking in the rice patties. Finally, I found myself in a small little town. Guy got himself a nice fish. Oo, those fishes do not look very good. All right. So, I got about 20 kilometers left. Not too far. Should be in a lot bigger town than this, but
we’ll see if there’s a hostel, guest house, hotel. I’m thinking there is. Roasted duck. You see a lot of that. All right, let’s see where we can go from here. We can go to, 8 kilometers that way. We can go to More roasted duck. Man, I’m actually kind of surprised to
see those big American-style 18-wheelers. Look at that. Uh, sugar cane. Yeah. Does she have sugarcane? I do. Yeah. I think she does. I think she does. Okay. And I was just thinking, man, I could use a
Picari sweat and uh a nice bench to sit down. But uh I’m not in Korea anymore and I’m not going to have the luxury of all
those convenience stores. But I’ll have places like this, I’m
sure, and it’ll be a lot cheaper. To tell you how juicy that is. Oh, that looks good. I don’t even know how much. How much? 10,000, which is I already
know like a quarter maybe. Is that not even a quarter? Hey.
Hey. Cheers. Oh man. I’m gone. Gone. And I found my beautiful hotel. Only like eight bucks. It’s 200,000 dong. It’s not bad. It’s not bad. It looks a little seedy, but the room is clean and
I like it because I can put my bike in there and uh there’s people in there chilling and so I
went to a couple different places and same price, but I didn’t have anywhere to put
my bike and so this place won. I had to shower, clean up,
but now it’s time to eat. I passed by a bunch of restaurants way over there. I’ll show you the room and give you
a tour of that when I come back. But first, let’s go eat. Hey, it’s crazy. Every single place is pretty
much just full of dudes. Yeah, there’s some girls in there. Never mind. Hoy Hanoi Bar and Restaurant. Hello. How are you? What’s up, little guy? I wish I could take you with me. Oh my gosh. Cutie. Cute little puppy. Yeah, cute little puppy. Newborn. One month. One month. This is adorable. All right. So, we go with the What is this? The beef. Beef. Is it a lot? No.
A lot. A lot. Okay. Yeah.
That looks How much is this? That is one of the best sellers. Is it? It looks good. It looks good. Cool. Damn. Basically, I ordered fajitas. Wow, those look unbelievable, man. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Wow. This is looking like my uh
best meal in Vietnam so far. Let’s see how it tastes. It looks good, but we’ll see how it tastes. And the water spinach pretty good. Pretty good. Which is uh water spinach
is oddly illegal in America. I think because it’s an invasive species maybe. I don’t know. Hey.
Hey. How are you? Thank you, man. Thank you. All right. All right. Cool. Thank you, brother. Damn. Damn. Look at that. It’s all right. It doesn’t taste as good as it looks so far. Man, really tough. Damn. Kind of disappointing, man. They are getting crunk I don’t know. It’s just not bursting with flavor. It is kind of tough, man. Man, that’s it. That’s what eight bucks will get you in Vietnam. Not bad. Not bad. 200,000. I mean, it’s obviously one of those hotels. Big mirror. Looks pretty clean. I’m just afraid of the mosquitoes, but man, that’s going to do it for day
one of the tour around Vietnam. Not a bad day. Um, I’m definitely looking forward to the
mountains and getting out of like the city. And even though I did get out of the city, it’s still just straight and
kind of industrial and whatnot. And so definitely looking forward to like
getting out into the countryside more. So that’s going to do it for today’s video. Like, subscribe, leave your thoughts below. I love reading your comments. And uh I will see you in the next video. Peace guys.

17:39 oh it’s my hometown
oh wow vietnam baby! Haven't been and it's my bucket list. Glad you're taking in the history as you travel to these countries. It's important and not always pretty side of American history. Especially for us Americans since most of what really goes on with foreign policy is kept from the public. Cuz if we knew we'd be pissed. After WWII ended the US became the World Reserve Currency. We printed the currency the world was going to base trade on. Obviously if we can print as much as we want our bankers and their cohorts would love that. That wouldn't happen until 1972 with Nixon. But until then Truman laid the ground work with establishing the CIA. Truman was their guy. The International Bankers and the military industrial complex. Laying out the ground work for a global empire. Of course, after Truman we had Eisenhower who famously gave his farewell speech and warned us of a "deep military industrial complex". And then we had JFK who also tried to dismantle the Federal Reserve. We know what happened to him. At least we should, but for some reason our government has secrets files that they're holding onto that discloses what happened? Right, because it was the Italian Mob. lol. And that needs to be kept as a secret right? It's all laughable. That's all post WWII. Pre WWII is just as interesting if you think about how Commodore Perry was sent off to conquer China, but instead stopped by Japan and gave them all the industrial and military equipment and training. We know what Japan did in the decades after that. Makes you wonder right? All we know is Japan was to have justified their conquest with "if we don't conquer you all the US will". Of course, we know what happened to Nagasaki and Hiroshima. I found it odd… really odd… when in 2016 Trump met with Japan's Abe he said "we remember Pearl Harbor". What an interesting thing to say as Japan and Korea were considering joining ASEAN. Of course we all remember Pearl Harbor, but why did he bring that up? Was that a threat? Well, that's just interesting back story. Glad to see Vietnam thriving and thanks for sharing.
Welcome to vietnam!
Ocean park where I live
That is Vinhomes Ocean Park urban area – one of the most successful projects of Vin Group to attract the people to live in the suburbs of Hanoi, so they have added Vinhomes Ocean Park 2 & 3 project just over 1km away, I also really like it there, in addition, nearby there is also Ecopark which is also great with lots of green trees, enjoy it
Nice bowl of Bun Cha right there
Don’t forget the Korean hotspot that is Danang
Wow, this is quite interesting to me, I will follow your journey.
$8 bucks for the love motel is a good deal. noted.
Nice video, how long are you staying in Vietnam? Not many videos I’ve seen. That tour Vietnam on bicycle. And I’ve been living in Saigon for 2 years now.
Today I saw you in Hai Phong
What you saw in the inner city is the real Hanoi, while that Vin-whatever place is just for show. It's like a walled garden built to look pretty and give an illusion of development and luxury, not to be lived in – that's why it's so empty and there's no activity inside.
Tôi cũng yêu thích 🚴♀️ đạp xe xuyên Việt Nam 🇻🇳 ủng hộ kênh bạn ❤
Đã đăng ký, lúc nào về hải phòng thành phố của tôi nhé
I live in the Vinhomes Ocean Park development that you visited. I have access to all the amenities and can show you around. All the stuff you saw and a bunch more that you didnt see, all this is free. And rent prices are very low.
video rất tốt có phụ đề tiếng việt !
