Yes, there it is. 5 km to the Hohenstein ski lift at the castle. Hohenstein Castle. That’s where we’re going now. There’s a lovely cream puff café. So, if you’re ever coming here, it’s like, well, where is it? Near Velden. Velden is nearby. Between Schnaittach and Velden. Hohenstein Castle, just google it. Great cream puff café. Nice and rich with cream. For packing on some serious fat. But that’s not why we’re here. We’re here for the climb. And today we’re going up to the castle. Not the classic route from the front, though; we’re riding, sneaking up from behind. There’s another path at the back, and it’s pretty steep. I think I’ve only ridden that once so far. It’s due today. Due for the video, due for my legs. Let’s see how it goes. I don’t remember it that well. I just remember that horseflies were chasing me back then, and then I went up even faster. That’s not going to happen today. It’s September. It’s already a bit cooler, but still warm in shorts. It’s still doable. Ein echter Geheimtipp in Franken: Der Anstieg hinauf zur Burg Hohenstein ist zwar weniger bekannt, hat es aber in sich. Auf schmaler Straße windet man sich steil den Berg hinauf, bis sich oben die eindrucksvolle Burganlage eröffnet. Ein kurzer, aber knackiger Anstieg, der definitiv zu den versteckten Highlights zählt.
Der Anstieg zur Burg Hohenstein ist kurz, aber brutal steil. Auf schmaler Straße zieht er sofort kräftig an und fordert mit knackigen Rampen volle Power. Ein echter Geheimtipp, der dich schnell an deine Grenzen bringt.
