パナマの心。地元の人のように走ろう – EP.379

Are we there -? Oh my God! I need a hairdresser. Soon. And I’m all packed up. Nearly. We’re nearly good to go. This was an amazing experience.
Thank you, David, for having me here. David is not here. He’s the property
owner. This is unofficial campgrounds. So I guess if you want to stay here, you have
to get in touch with David through Instagram. This is the way he rolls. Unfortunately, David wasn’t here. I was here
with his doggie, and we had a wonderful time. And now, it’s time to hit the road. [Intro Music] So… Elisa… We’re supposed to be on the road today. Not
too far because she sent me her live location. We’re gonna meet on the highway. Yup. She’s not too far from me now,
coming from the opposite direction. And then, we’re gonna meet up and go that way. [Music] Is that her? No. That’s not her. No. Definitely not her. We’re gonna meet in this town. She’s very close. That’s her. That’s her. I’ll just wait here! [In Spanish] Hello! Hello! Thank you for coming to see
me all this way from Panama! Welcome to Panama. [In Spanish] Thank you very much, friend. Thank you. Nice to finally meet you. Yes, yes, I know. How many kilometers did you do today? Maybe… I stopped many times since 7:00. 7:30. Yeah, sorry. I didn’t know you were gonna
leave so early. I would leave early, but I was like, taking my time and stuff.
[Elisa] No, no, no! It’s okay. All right! So now, we’re
gonna go for a little ride into the mountains. I hope
it’s not gonna be so hot! [In Spanish] Very hot! I hope it’s not gonna be so hot. Hi! Welcome to Panama! [In Spanish] Thank you very much. Yeah. All right. Let’s do it. [Music] Our first stop – Yes, of course.
[Kinga] Right. Where are we now? Now, we are in Penonomé. This is a
city from in the middle of Panama. We have some geographical, I don’t know… This is like, geographically
apparently the middle of Panama. Yes. Yes, it is.
[Kinga] So it’s as close to the end of the country as to
the Costa Rican border, right? Yes. We are in the middle of – I made it to the middle. Yes.
[Kinga] Great achievement! And maybe –
[Kinga] All right. And maybe I’m going to recommend to visit Los Picachos de Olá. This is a little back, but you have to see it. So now, we have a kind of like
a celebration. It’s Sunday, so we don’t know what’s going on.
[Elisa] Yes. But… We are very close to the Corpus Christi. This is a Christian holiday. Catholic. So maybe
something like that or something from the town, but they have some dances, and customs,
[Kinga] Traditions. and celebrations, and… Cultural… Yeah. Meeting. I don’t know. Yeah. Like a performance. Yes. Like a performance.
[Kinga] Like a folk dance. Yes. A folk dance. Let’s check it out. Yes. [Speaking in Spanish] [Speaking in Spanish] This is like a health… Charity? Yes. And they have some activities. Yeah.
Insurance. They have foods and… Yeah. Right. So this is a charity day. We worked it out. [Live Music] The geographical – The map! That little roundabout! Yeah. I see! Yes. That’s the globe, and in the middle, it’s Panama. And this
is the middle of Panama. This is so cool! Clearly, this is an important town! And this is the information. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, here. [In Spanish] Geographic Center
of the Republic of Panama. There we go. We’re here. It is, truly! That little hole, it’s us! Right! Makes sense. [Live Music] Hi. Hi! Where are you from? Australia. [In Spanish] Australian. Polish-Australian. [In Spanish] Polish-Australian. [In Spanish] Yes. So good. [Speaking in Spanish] Okay, here you go. Chillie is so popular today! Yes. That was a cool experience. [GPS] Turn left onto Calle José Vázquez,
then turn right onto Calle Manuel Amador Guerrero.
[Kinga] Right! So now, we’re going… [GPS] In 150 meters, turn left onto Calle Victor de la Guardia.
[Kinga] I think a little bit higher up. To this town in the mountains. [GPS] Turn left onto Calle Victor de la Guardia, then turn right onto Calle José Vázquez.
[Kinga] Oh, shush. Oh, shush. It’s okay. This road is much better than the highway! It feels cooler. I won’t go – I won’t – Elisa! Elisa! For me, no! No. [Speaking in Spanish] No. I won’t fit there! I’ll push you out! There’s no way I’ll fit
with my panniers here. I’m very wide, you know? Your thing is too wide? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I’m going to cross, and you’ll
see it, because I have to – No, I can push you out. Yes, I know, but… Yeah. I mean, you can cross. Yeah. If you want to
cross, cross. But I will be struggling. So I’m going to cross.
[Kinga] Yeah, yeah, of course. And go. Because this road was following… I don’t know. I’m not sure. Is that your
GPS? Because my GPS was saying go that way. Yeah? Okay. But I’m going to cross. Okay. Yeah! So I’ll turn around and we’re going the other way. Yes. Because even if I fit, it will be
very, very tight. I’m very, like – No, I don’t think – It will be like, literally scratching… No, I think I won’t fit. You don’t. No, you don’t fit. I’m like, literally like, that much. You know? On each side. It’s amazing. This is new for me. Yeah, no. But I know! Like, my
GPS was telling me that way. Okay. I’m going through.
[Kinga] Okay! No worries. You do that. She’s coming! Here, we’ll be still fine,
but it’s just that narrow… Yeah. No way Chillie and I would fit here. Well done. [Music] Of course, you can’t see it, but we’re gonna climb that hill. There’s a road that’s literally going up. And it’s a very steep road. And of course, on the camera, you won’t
be able to see how steep that is, but I’m here to tell you it’s very
steep. Okay, here we go. We started. This is steep! I don’t think you know. I don’t
think you realize how steep. Whoa! And we just keep going up! I don’t know. Like, I’m trying
to make a point of reference to show the steepness, but I don’t think I’m
able to do that. But anyhow, it’s very, very steep. And here at the top, we have a… Do you call that a ‘windmill’? Temperature dropped down to
26. It’s very pleasant now! We’re at teh top! Whoa! And now we’re on the top of
the hill and we have this view! I know it’s a bit cloudy, but
it’s very spectacular because it’s just like – It feels like – Well, we’re no longer
on the top of the hill, but just this vast, open space. Nice! That view is insane, hey?
[Elisa] I know! It’s insane! The – The height. The steepness. Where are we now? We are in Toabré. This is a mountain of Coclé. We have a aeolic park. You know, for the clean
energy. For the energy, lights… I don’t know. Here? Yeah! The aeolic… The big fan? Ah, the fan. Yes, yes, like a windmill. Yes.
[Elisa] Yeah. We’re quite high, hey? What’s the elevation here? Because the temperature dropped. Oh, it might be because – No, that’s – 200, maybe? Only? Well, we’re only on 200, but it’s a nice, pleasant 26 degrees
so it’s not so humid. It’s so nice. But the hill here… So I bet a lot of bikers are doing this road
because it’s just like, beautiful pavement, nice twisties, and then you have that hill that’s
like, ‘Wow!’ You’re going on top of the mountain, hey? It’s like a… Like a… [In Spanish] Amusement park. Like, you know, Disney Land? Yeah, yeah, yeah. For riders. For the motorcycle. For sure, for sure. Well, so that was a nice
detour. So we’re going back now. Yeah. You’re gonna head to Panama
City, and now, we’ll actually head back where I came from, nearly because I just got a fantastic recommendation
from Elisa, so I have to see this place. And we’ll meet again later. I’m sure. In Panama City.
[Elisa] Yes. We’ll catch up. We’ll don a dinner or something.
[Elisa] When we meet in Panama, maybe we can, you know… I can show you many places. Yes! We’ll do that.
[Elisa] And they’re off road. So, to be continued! But meanwhile, let’s go back. Yeah. Let’s go back. And these guys are just standing there,
just looking! I’m like, ‘How about you help?’ No, no, no, no! Pardon me? And now I’m gonna struggle. I’m gonna go to the top so I can do it. All right! We’re back on the road. This is pretty! Yeah. This is a very nice spot to picture.
[Kinga] Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah.. For sure. Look at this beautiful viewpoint! So… This is Toabré. This is in the height of Penonomé. One of many heights in Penonomé.
This is a aeolic park for the left city. Sure. And this is a very beautiful place. We have a very… The highway here? Very, you know. Very curvy. Yeah. It was absolutely, yes. Very cool for
a bike ride. The whole region. And it’s… It’s very remote, I must say. There’s not like,
many villages here in the mountains, right? No. It’s very lonely. No, it’s very, very small population. Very
far away. They have to walk a long distance. They are very, you know… Isolated. Yes. Very, very, very. Okay! Time to head back. [Music] Here we go. We’re saying goodbye, but we’re gonna see each other later!
[Elisa] Goodbye! We had a very good day. We did. Thank you for being my tour guide!
[Elisa] More than expected! Yes. Very fun.
[Kinga] I would not know where to go. So, I’ll see you later in Panama.
[Elisa] Yeah. I’ll see you later. Goodbye!
[Kinga] Drive safe! [In Spanish] See you later! Thank you very much. And she’s gone. That’s okay, because we’re gonna see each other soon in Panama. I’m gonna
stay with Elisa. She invited me to her home. It’s so nice of her. And now, I’m gonna do quick
shopping and we’re going camping. And hopefully, maybe swimming. Maybe? Maybe. Chillie, maybe. [Outro Music] [Outro Music] Hey guys, thank you so much for

The best kind of travel is about the people you meet. After making it to the geographical heart of Panama, I was lucky enough to be shown around by a new friend, Elisa. This video is all about the joy of connecting with a local rider and experiencing a place through their eyes. The Penonomé region is known for its highlands, challenging hills, and scenic, twisty roads.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don’t know my final destination or the duration of this journey.

Throughout my journey, I’m raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: https://gogetfunding.com/arewethereyet/

None of that would be possible without my official sponsors:

  1. Scenario: Kinga is the first person to land on Mars. Stepping down out of the lander, five little Martians step out from behind rocks and run up and hug her. Such are your friend making skills.

  2. Hi Kinga, another great video. I'm not the sort to make many comments but I watched your journey through Africa just after Covid broke out. You make some wonderful travel videos and I watch every one. Thank you, you travel to places that I am unlikely to visit, I am an older tarmac rider so enjoy your exploits, thank you.

  4. Hi Kinga , I have be following you for probably over 3 years now. Enjoy your humor and narration with the videos. My only criticism would be the delay / big gaps between actual video recording and release. Some of the other you tubers have a quicker turn around time for releasing. We know you were in the UK recently, but we will be still watching videos from beginning of July, just saying 🤔, other then that all great

  5. Nice vid Kinga, good to see you interacting with the locals and enjoying Elisa's company. She handles the 1250 like a pro. Nice pics of the two of you in the closing shots 🙂

  6. Those were the kind of roads I always sought out. Wavy with views ❤ You are either out of or about to be out of the UK and meeting up with Chillie. We're looking forward to your adventures in Columbia. Take care, Kinga! 🤟

  7. Thank you can go for that awesome video. It’s nice to see that you’re riding with your friends and having so much fun.
Hope you meet up with your friend again
