“This is our current location.” We are going to walk from here to Heart Rock.” “Around 8km in distance.” “Elevation of 300m.” “Our current location is the parking area.” “About 5 mins away is the Mountain Entrance.” “This is the highest point on our hiking route.” “The elevation is around 290m.” “The elevation is not so high.” “After this point, there will be lots of trees like jungle.” “Then we arrive to our final destination (Heart Rock).” “We expect to arrive around 12 noon.” “Then we will have lunch and rest here for a while.” “We start going back between 12:30 to 13:00.” “Then we will go to another route to ‘Gajumarunomori’.” “We will be back here in parking area around 3pm afternoon.” It’s quite hot and humid so we had to use cooling towels. I forgot what this leaf is but it smells woody… “This plant is used for making this famous liquor…” “That’s correct… Tequilla!” “In Mexico, this plant is used to make tequilla.” “This is not currentlu used in Ogasawara in any way.” There’s a lizard in this area. There it is! “There are fishes and shrimp that lives in this small pond.” It’s a bit hard to see in the video but there are small shrimps and fishes here. There are also snails at Ogasawara. 休憩所 Time: 10:10am Scenic view while resting… Continuing on… This tree is called Maruhachi.” “You can see the trunk has round pattern (maru) and kanji 8 (hachi).” “…hence the name ‘maruhachi’.” You can see kanji character 8 (Hachi) 八. Then Maru is O in Japanese. “Ogasawara originally had no cats but…” “… and people rode the boat with mice.” In order to reduce mice population, cats were brought in Ogasawara.” “Warabi Valley” Warabi Valley

Time: 10:26 am Wild bracken ferns (warabi – わらび) are type of edible ferns. “This non-native plant is called ‘Hakarame’ (葉から芽).” “Around the edge of the leaf, buds are coming out.” “Ha (葉) kara (から) me (芽) literally means …”
“Buds from the leaf.” “This was a road for cars long time ago.” “Japanese army made this road for cars.” “Not only walking but also for cars.” “That’s why this road is wide.” “Used by army previously.” “Over that opening is the direction to Okinawa.” “This is called ‘Koyushuu’ in Ogasawara.” “It’s an endemic plant (only found in Ogasawara).” There are also emergency rations along the route. 軍事ビル Time:11:21am “This is also Japanese military building previously.” “Currently there’s nothing inside so you can take a look.” You can see there’s emergency box here for any emergencies. We would try to take a look. Scenic View
見晴らし Time: 11:30am Quite a nice view from here. Chihiro Rock (Heart Rock)
千尋石(ハートロック) Time: 11:44am This cliff should look like a heart. But it’s only visible from the sea by boat. The brown colors gives the heart shape but it’s not visible from our side. The big green colored island is called Minamijima. We had our free snack from our tour guide. Time: 12:43pm

がじゅまる Time: 13:07 pm “Danger Caution!” “This is the remains of the truck used in the past…” “… before this was a road.” “This truck is made by Nissan…” “There /Nissan (ニッサン) written in katakana.” Gajumaru Forest
ガジュマルの森 Time: 13:21pm “This tree is a non-native tree of Ogasawara.” These trees are so large! “Are these the one used by Tarzan?” We call this ‘Balete’ tree in Filipino. ‘Gajumaru’ in Japanese. It’s a famous home for Filipino supernatural creature ‘tikbalang’. “Tikbalang” – Half horse – half human So we normally don’t climb this in the Philippines. “Let’s take a rest here.” During our rest, we are allowed to climb these trees!
