【豊橋×ぶらバイク】海の上を走る一本道見つけた!ちくわから始まる癒しスポットを探すバイク旅。— Monkey125で巡る非日常旅
Finally made it happen! I always wanted to film a scene where I walk coolly up to my bike and hop on. Feels kind of refreshing and nice, doesn’t it? Engine on! *duru-duru-duru~~* My excitement’s through the roof. I finally bought a neck mount, so I’m in an unusually good mood today. By the way, when you think of Higashi-Mikawa, it’s Toyohashi. And Toyohashi means Yamasa Chikuwa. Today’s ride is all about buying Yamasa Chikuwa and enjoying it at a chill spot. …Or at least that was the plan, but looking at today’s route, I basically only rode around Toyohashi. I was actually planning to head to a chill spot I found in Oku-Mikawa last time, but the weather looked sketchier than expected. I didn’t want to get caught in sudden rain, so I decided to wander around Toyohashi while looking for nearby chill spots. First stop is the “Yamasa Chikuwa Shimoji shop,” located inside the factory grounds. After all, nothing beats freshly made chikuwa! This is the best place to get it fresh. There’s the sign. Since it’s right along Route 1, I bet a lot of people have seen it. Here we are. Since it’s early in the morning, there aren’t many customers yet. Today’s goal is the “Special Chikuwa.” It became famous thanks to Mr. Yanami in McCain’s Episode 1, right? The “Special Chikuwa” is 300 yen each (before tax). A bit pricey, but it’s thick, rich, and absolutely delicious. A single chikuwa sitting on the counter looks kind of surreal. Sorry for being that customer who doesn’t spend much… Thank you, Yamasa Chikuwa! I’ll be back to buy more. Got my chikuwa, so let’s head off to find a chill spot. Merging onto Route 1 now, but with the Monkey 125, sometimes the traffic feels a bit too fast and scary. The mountains don’t look like they’re having good weather. Let’s stick along the Toyokawa River and see if we can find a chill spot. If I were going to Oku-Mikawa, I’d turn right, but I’m headed toward Toyohashi, so I’ll turn left toward the sea. Maybe because of yesterday’s rain, the water level is high. Unless it’s midsummer, it’d be hard to relax by the riverbank today. I’ve come quite a way. If I keep going, I’ll reach Mikawa Bay, but I remember there’s a park around here. Let’s check it out. I see it. Lots of people fishing here. Arrived. Quite a few cars parked here. Everyone’s probably fishing. Actually, in Toyohashi’s parks, you’re allowed to use cassette stoves or single burners as long as it’s not open flame. It’s written on the city’s official website and the signs, too. There are tables and chairs here. Instead of using my own, maybe I’ll chill there. Time for a mini feast: Yamasa Chikuwa and non-alcoholic beer. Cheers with full energy! Ahh, delicious! Pure happiness. Struggling with my DSLR skills, I ended up putting the chikuwa in an awkward pose. Chikuwa, turn around! Face the camera! Oops! I hadn’t shown the chikuwa properly, so here’s a sudden mysterious chikuwa showcase. Man, both the chikuwa and the non-alcoholic beer are insanely good. If you come to Toyohashi, don’t forget Yamasa Chikuwa as a souvenir! That was great—thanks for the meal! It’s nice and quiet here, but since there’s no shade, it’d be tough on a sunny day. Oh, a Honda CB250R next to me. Such a good bike, but it got discontinued. What a shame. So, where to next? Let’s head toward the Toyohashi City Gymnasium. Even on a cloudy day, waiting at stoplights gets pretty hot. If it’s like this on a 125cc, big bikes must feel like an oven. There’s the gym. This is home to the B.League team “San-en NeoPhoenix,” the team I support. I’ll be cheering them on again this season! Let’s head toward the factory district next. Might find something interesting there. Actually, this is my first time on this road. Excited to see where it leads. Huh? I see a coastal straight road under the bridge. I want to go there! Checking the map—time to U-turn. Looks like I can reach it from the roads near the gym. Here we go. Turning left at a crossing that Phoenix fans would know well. Wow, didn’t know Toyohashi had a road like this. Wandering around really pays off. An endless straight line. This feels amazing! Let’s stop around here and take a good look around. There’s nothing but a straight road and the sea, both ahead and behind me. Alright, let’s just keep riding straight! Feels like riding on top of the sea. Cyclists look like they’re enjoying it too—great job out there! It’s the end of the straight stretch, but the seaside road keeps going. And going… and going… and going! The sea has turned into the Toyogawa River. Fun fact: The city is “Toyokawa” (kawa), but the river is pronounced “Toyogawa” (gawa). Also, the city is “Toyohashi,” but the bridge is “Toyobashi.” Could come in handy to know. Still riding along the river. At this rate, I’ll reach the bridge called “Toyohashi.” See? Already useful! Crossing roads like this always makes me a little nervous. Oh, the riverside turned into a beautiful green area. Looks like a park. Let’s stop by—it might be a hidden chill spot. Hmm, no shade along the riverside… Oh, looks like someone already claimed the spot under the bridge. So, sadly, not a chill spot today. The greenery is spreading again. Ah, this is Kitajima Riverside Park. Let’s check it out. Looks like I can relax under the trees here. Actually, I did that not long ago, didn’t I? Anyway, let’s get set up right away. It’s wonderfully quiet here, but the wind is strong today. The flame keeps getting blown out, so the water’s taking forever to boil. Finally got it boiling—time to enjoy a nice cup of coffee. Thanks so much for watching until the end!
