[ 京都 vlog ] 5日間の暮らしの日記🏠🎐|夏の京都、カフェと暮らしと日々のごはん🥪
The rainy season ended in a flash, and summer has arrived in Kyoto. I got an early summer break, so I’m planning to spend the week relaxing nearby. It feels good to reset the house during quiet weekday afternoons ✨ Since my partner is working from home today, I’ll make a simple meal for the two of us. We’ll need enough rice for dinner too, so I’m cooking 3 cups. I’ve been adding barley to our rice for gut health since two years ago 🌾 It’s been working well for digestion 🤫 Found some cucumbers in the fridge—perfect for quick pickles. Just add pickling base and chill for 30 minutes. Personally, I like them best after soaking for half a day. 👨🏻 has no lunch break due to meetings, so I’ll make him some rice balls. I always admire the soft, gentle shape of the ones my grandma made, but mine always turn out a bit odd… 😂 Finished with a slice of Nara-zuke to top it off. Another slow and easy lunch today. I’ve been drinking R-1 since the doctor told me I’m low on probiotics. Tasty—but a bit pricey. Since 👨🏻 isn’t home today, I’m just making a quick veggie stir-fry. It’s my go-to on work-from-home days—simple with whatever’s left in the fridge. Today it’s just onion, cabbage, and pork. If he were here, I’d probably bulk it up with yakisoba noodles too 🍝 Seasoned only with salt and pepper—simple and satisfying. Add the cucumber pickles I made yesterday, and lunch is ready 👍🏻 Lately I’ve been rewatching old favorite dramas. Still love the Akaboshi episode from The Confidence Man! After a quick kitchen reset, I finally get to do something— I’ve been looking forward my first ume (plum) project of the year! I missed the timing last year, so I’ve been waiting all season for this ✨ Since I’m a beginner, I’m starting with the simplest—plum syrup. First, I remove the stems, which can cause mold or bitterness. Then I wash each plum carefully and pat them dry. Looking back, maybe I should’ve halved them and made plum wine too. To remove moisture completely, I’ll leave them to dry for a day. I just realized my calendar is still on June— Half the year has already flown by. Time feels faster every year… I made plans to visit a café with my sister after her classes ✨ It’s hot, but I’m biking there. The café is a renovated Western-style house over 100 years old— a cozy hideaway filled with antique furniture 🙂 They’re known for their beautiful fruit tarts. My sister chose the strawberry tart, made with generous local strawberries. I went with the matcha tart, rich with Uji matcha and chestnuts. The crisp-yet-moist crust and the aroma of matcha were a perfect match ✨ On the way home, I walked alone— The whole town was already dressed for Gion Festival ✨ Good morning! I went to the clinic early today, and now I’m starving—so off to brunch ✨ A small, cozy crepe shop I’ve always been curious about—it’s usually got a line outside. Today I finally got in! I ordered the galette set since I skipped breakfast 🙂 It was super filling— crispy buckwheat crepe packed with bacon, cheese, and veggies 💡 The staff were all smiles, which made the place feel even warmer 👩🏻 Continuing yesterday’s plum syrup prep 🍶 I’m using the jar I bought last week— didn’t think it through, but it’s definitely oversized for two people… 😂 I wiped it down carefully to avoid mold later. Measured the plums and sugar 1:1ー and layered them in the jar. Since it’s hot out, I added about 150ml of apple cider vinegar for a refreshing touch. Hope it turns out delicious! Just did a bit of work and it’s already evening! Uh-oh, I need to go buy groceries for dinner…! It started raining, but there’s nothing in the fridge—so off I go 🚶🏻 I’m back home! Tonight I’m making nanbanzuke with salmon—a perfect dish for summer 🎐 Thunder’s rumbling and the rain’s getting heavy. First, I’m prepping miso soup stock. I always use Kayanoya dashi—it’s the tastiest (and the easiest 🤫) I’ve tried. For the nanbanzuke, I’m using onions and carrots, thinly sliced and soaked in water. It’s one of my favorite dishes—my dad used to make it often. I still remember how surprised I was the first time he served it… Next, let’s make the marinade for the nanbanzuke: Sugar, vinegar, mirin, soy sauce, plus chili pepper if you like. Bring it to a gentle boil and it’s done. I usually prefer sweeter flavors, but with this heat lately, I’m leaning toward lighter, less-sweet tastes. Pat the salmon dry, coat it in potato starch, and pan-fry until crispy and golden. The smell is already making me hungry ✨ Couldn’t resist—snuck a bite of the salmon. Hot! Now just toss everything—veggies, salmon, and marinade—into a bowl, give it a gentle mix, and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes. The flavors soak in while it cools, and it turns out so delicious 😋 While I wait, I’m putting together a new trash bin I ordered 💪🏻 It’s my second one from Yamazaki—it’s just that good ✨ Takes about 10 minutes to assemble. What I love most is how clean it stays! Since the sides are just bars, the bin itself never gets dirty—so stress-free. When it’s full, you just lift the lid—no fuss when taking out the trash! Time for dinner. Looks like the flavors soaked in nicely. The crispy salmon and tangy marinade go so well together—so delicious! Better save some for 👨🏻, who’ll be home late tonight… Good morning! Such lovely weather today 🌞 Heading to a café again this morning 🚶🏻 Seeing people enjoying themselves by the Kamo River always lifts my mood. 🦆 “We’re doing great too!” 🦆🦆🦆 “dews cafe kyoto” is a stylish spot just 5 minutes on foot from Heian Shrine. The natural light streaming in gives the place such a bright, cozy vibe ✨ It’s a weekday, so it’s nice and quiet inside. I came here after looking up a good breakfast spot—felt like treating myself today. Even cakes are lined up from the morning… so tempting! Yogurt, hummus, bread, salad—what a healthy start 🥗 Thank you for the slow and peaceful morning 🙂 No special plans today, so I headed straight home. But seriously—how hot is it?! 🌞 It was super sunny, and then out of nowhere… rain. The weather’s been so moody lately —just like me before my period (lol). Spent the day editing videos 💪🏻 I’ve been shaking the plum syrup I made a couple days ago every day. The once-dry plums are now nearly submerged in syrup! Having something to care for really adds joy to daily life. Maybe that’s why I have so many houseplants too. Heading out for dinner groceries 🚶🏻 Tonight’s dinner: chilled oden—so good ✨ Starting the day with another café visit 🥪 I finally made it to ha ra—I’d been wanting to come for so long! It’s always packed on weekends, so I tried coming on a weekday. A small, cozy space filled with antique furniture. They offer sandwich and soup sets even in the morning. Everything looked so good—it was hard to choose… I went with a warm sandwich filled with green onions, mushrooms, blue cheese, and Gouda. The crispy bread and savory combo of cheese and green onion was unbelievably good. I loved it so much, I came back the following week ✨ Walking home along the Kamo River 🚶🏻 So hot today… In the evening, I got a bit hungry and had a scone I picked up from ha ra. I paired it with my go-to decaf tea from MUJI—perfect for late afternoons. The scone is from HORNO, a well-known bakery. Even without warming it up, it was crispy and just right for an afternoon treat ✨ Now putting my plants back after watering them~~ Thanks again for watching till the end ✨ If you enjoyed the video, please give it a thumbs-up and subscribe! 👍🏻
