Simple summer days in my northern home | Hair Care, Cooking & Peaceful Nature | Slow vlog
Today is a rainy day Catherine is heading to the bathroom for her morning routine She has long hair that requires care She uses a treatment with coconut, olive, and avocado oils The oil helps to detangle fluffy hair and prevents split ends After applying the oil, it’s important to brush the hair Today Catherine decided to do a hairstyle and put her hair up in a bun She has a special foam ring that helps hold the hair in place and adds extra volume All that’s left is to secure the hairstyle with hairpins By the way, all the clips in this makeup bag were used in Catherine’s hair on our wedding day Catherine doesn’t use a lot of makeup This is a day cream It has a very pleasant scent It nourishes and moisturizes the skin, since water after washing tends to dry and tighten it The routine is complete We haven’t changed the postcards in the photo frames in a while If you’ve been with us for a long time, you might remember — we have frames all over the apartment We fill them with postcards — ones we buy during meaningful moments, bring back from trips, or receive from friends We haven’t looked at them in a while There are many with vintage city photos I love the feeling in those images Catherine likes cozy illustrations more She’s an illustrator herself That’s the style closest to her Some cards are drawn by her Today we picked a few to display There’s a summer one for her, and a quiet one for me One went to the bathroom Another to the kitchen — the frame we see most often While eating, usually The kitchen is one of my favorite places Catherine really loves it too When we moved, I really wanted Catherine to have the best kitchen possible The most important purchase for the kitchen was a dishwasher In our previous apartment, we couldn’t install one Now it makes daily life much easier It gives us an extra hour of free time each day to spend in a meaningful way Daily cleaning is exhausting, even if you do it together Catherine spent a long time thinking about how to organize the space in the kitchen In our old apartment, the dishes were stored up high, but now we decided to keep them in a drawer That way the kids can help set the table or grab a cup of water The lower drawer holds pots and pans It’s much more convenient to take them out that way In the upper cabinets we store grains, pasta, spices, tea, and snacks There are also dishes on the top shelves that we use when guests come, and glass cups Catherine knows how much I love coffee and desserts So Catherine decided to make tiramisu I don’t like cold coffee but in a dessert with cream, it blends in so perfectly Coffee in tiramisu is just as important as a good cream If the coffee isn’t very good, the dessert will turn out bitter and watery I love freshly ground coffee, so we have a small manual coffee grinder Catherine gets tired quickly, so I’m always the one who grinds the coffee I know she keeps asking me to buy an electric grinder, but I enjoy the process Please let me know in the comments what kind of grinder you use — manual or electric I’m genuinely curious By the way, I’m usually the one who brews the coffee too Catherine drinks tea more often But in the morning, I always brew coffee for the two of us in a moka pot Catherine usually makes a large batch of tiramisu, since we eat it very quickly We pour in the cream gradually to control the thickness of the cream The secret to a good cream is a long whipping time It should be thick enough, but still light and airy Right now, it’s perfect For one cake, we use half a pack of ladyfingers and one and a half moka pots of coffee The cream is made from mascarpone, 20% cream, powdered sugar, and whipping cream I won’t write the recipe in grams because Catherine always cooks by taste We don’t like it too sweet, so we only add a little powdered sugar This is the special kind of cookie made for tiramisu It instantly soaks up coffee, so you have to dip it very quickly and pull it out right away Otherwise, it will fall apart After laying down the first layer, it’s time to generously spread the cream on top It’s so delicious! Tiramisu is ready I love when there’s a small test portion of cream and coffee-soaked cookies left over It’s like eating the leftover gingerbread dough from the sides of the bowl The tiramisu test was a success 🙂 Today the weather is calm and without rain, so we decided to go to the park in the neighboring town and ride bikes Only children have their own bicycles, but now we rent them for the whole family For Mark, we got a pedal go-kart You still have to pedal, but there’s no need to worry about balance Mark isn’t very confident on a regular bike yet, and he enjoys feeling like he’s driving a car Emily rides on my bike as a passenger Catherine has a regular cruiser bike She learned to ride late, so she doesn’t feel very confident (as she says) But her skills are more than enough for a calm ride in the park The park includes forested areas, playgrounds, and a beach Our favorite trail is the one along the sea bay There’s such a pleasant breeze here Recently, we were at a store, and I happened to spot this lamp Catherine had mentioned that she wanted to add some spot lighting to the kitchen This is a portable lamp that charges up — very convenient There’s no need to look for an outlet or deal with annoying cords It works by touch and has several modes: white light, warm light, and natural light You can also adjust the brightness Honestly, when I bought it, I didn’t even know all of that — it was a pleasant surprise In our apartment, we use natural light everywhere, but in the evening we sometimes like to light candles and add some warm light While I’m spending time with the kids in the children’s room, Catherine gets to rest in peace and enjoy her tea Each of us needs a little time during the day to unwind We drink regular black tea with some thyme added The tiramisu has cooled down Now it’s time to sprinkle on the cocoa — and the perfect summer dessert is ready! Outside, the cars are rushing by, people are busy with their lives In this fast-paced world, we treasure moments of quiet and calm even more Today we took a train ride out of town Not far from our home is a lovely village There’s a library there that we visit every month Last year, the library was closed for renovation Now we finally get to see how it has changed It looks beautiful! There are many more places to sit now A great improvement We usually bring a full backpack of books for the kids We’re so happy the library is open again We already want to come back On our way to the train station, we walked through a charming little square It’s a cozy, peaceful spot that we absolutely love Time to change the kids’ bedsheets I really love their room Everything is exactly how we wanted it The most important thing — there are lots of shelves for books and plenty of space to play Everything is in harmony The kids have lots of plush toys on their beds It’s so sweet Neither of them will let us take even one toy away The kids often make crafts One of them is a garland that they asked to hang on their beds But now it’s gotten a bit worn out, so it’s time to take it down We keep their crafts and drawings in a special box I’m afraid one day there will be just too much of it all! Today Catherine bought a new book for our home library Our whole family loves books by the writer Mauri Kunnas from Finland This will be one of many of his books in our collection His stories are always full of exciting illustrations I’m not sure who’s the bigger fan — me or the kids The book is finished It’ll soon be time for bed Today it got a little warmer, although most of the summer has been quite cool We’re heading to a tiny island that has an ancient fortress Catherine and I visited it 8 years ago Since then, our family has grown At the entrance, we bought a replica of an old postcard with a view of the fortress A couple of years ago, the fortress turned 700 years old I love being in places where you can feel connected to history We got hungry and sat down for a snack with a view of the lake It’s a huge lake — the largest in Europe Because of that, it often behaves like a sea It’s usually windy and very cold, even when the sun is shining Eight years ago, the weather wasn’t as sunny, and we were freezing But today was completely different We simply walked and enjoyed the calm Time to head home Thank you for spending these days with us

Step into our quiet Northern summer day — a slow life vlog filled with soft routines, cozy spaces, and peaceful moments. This is a silent video, where sounds of nature and daily life guide you through the still rhythm of the North.
We begin with a gentle morning beauty routine and natural hair care, followed by peaceful cleaning in our kitchen. The smell of fresh coffee fills the air as we prepare a homemade tiramisu dessert. A new lamp in Scandinavian design finds its place in our home, adding to the quiet comfort of our space.
Later, we escape to a tiny island surrounded by a northern lake, visit a cozy countryside library, and enjoy slow time with a Finnish book. We end the day with a calm bicycle ride through summer fields and cool breezes of the North.
This video is filled with the quiet joys of northern slow living: everyday beauty, simplicity, and stillness. Perfect for lovers of cozy silence, soft routines, and timeless peace.

Hello Alex & Catherine, Mark and Emily! 👋. I was just thinking about you today, as I hadn't heard from you in awhile! Looks like you guys are enjoying your Summer 🌞. Catherine, has such beautiful long hair! Love her bun! That Tiramisu Dessert looked DELICIOUS 😋!! What a neat park to ride and discover!! 🚴🚴♂️. Our Summer has been HOT!! 🥵. I am not a fan of the heat!! I am counting down the weeks for Fall (my FAVORITE SEASON) 🍂🍁🍂🍁. I am continuing my Treatments, and today I was told that I will be going 2xs a week instead of 3xs a week. So that has been such GREAT news!! 😀. I'm Praying that by Thanksgiving, I can walk Up Stairs (as we probably will have Thanksgiving at my Sister's house). So that is my goal to build up my Strength to do that. In a few weeks, Mark and I will be going into Our Neighborhood Community Hall and enjoy playing Bingo with Our Neighbors. I look forward to that!! 😀😀. Say "hello" to your Family from Us!! 😊🙂, Mark & Trudy
Happy to see you again ❤ your apartment is very cosy
Do you think you'll ever make a question and answer video to get to know each other better?
Have a nice Summer 🌺🌺🌺🌺
Really lovely. Always look forward to your posts. God bless you all 🙏
I love your videos, especially seeing how stylish, calm and organized you can live in an apartment of smaller size. I would love to see more of how you organize the things you own, it´s such an inspiration. Thanks for showing us!🌷
I love their little bed spreads, they’re so cute!😊
I like tiramisu. The cookies that are used for it we call "piškoti" or "piškote" and in Slovenia they say "piškotki". It's a funny thing that Slovenians on their websites, where there is information about using cookies, ask the site visitors do they accept "piškotki". Yes, I accept piškotki, especially in tiramisu! 😂
