After-Work Escape: Tackling the Hinohara Climb. From Hinohara to Lake Sagami –
Some days you just need to get out and climb. After finishing up a brief day at the office, I had an ambitious route planned: tackling both the Hinohara climb and the formidable Yabitsu Pass. This video documents the first, and arguably more scenic, part of that ride. Although the north climb of the Yabitsu pass is actually amazing.
The Hinohara climb near Tokyo is a fantastic route for any road cyclist. It has a manageable gradient that’s perfect for finding your rhythm and putting in a solid effort. It’s challenging enough to feel rewarding, but fun enough to make you want to do it again.
Stick around to the end. As is tradition, the ride includes a well-earned break at a local “combini” (convenience store). I had to laugh when I saw the footage… have I really become such an old, grumpy-looking dude? – 01:45:35
