Off the beaten path – Matsushima

morning everyone hey everyone we are in matushima today which is about a 45 minute train ride out from sandai it’s on the coast there’s some beautiful some islands and some Parklands that you can walk around we’re just here at tuli’s Cafe now having a very healthy breakfast what do you want up I got a salted vanilla donut and a hicha drink awesome and I got pancakes and a Mango Tango but cuz I’m having fruit mine’s much more healthy [Music] right all right so we’re going to spend the day here it’s beautiful it’s hot it’s like 32° outside Sun’s shining we’re going to do a bit of a walk around out here and just explore the local area it doesn’t seem too busy which is really nice but it is a Tuesday in the middle of the week at the end of the school holiday so hopefully it stays quiet put our bucket hats on keep us nice and coolish and uh there’s a bike higher as well from 10:00 so it gets too hot we might come back and um pick up a bike higher yeah sure yeah cool all right see you soon [Music] [Music] let [Music] BL [Music] you you [Music] hey again it would be remiss of us not to mention that today is actually our 1 month adversary in Japan so one month down two to go safe to say we’ve learned some lessons about long-term travel about Japan about ourselves I think around what we like to do what we don’t like to do and then just the I suppose the difference it is like living out of a suitcase and moving all the time and checking into hotels and hostels and capu hotels and and all of that right um we’re starting to pick up on some of the culture starting to pick up on some of the languages um we’ll do a bit of a wrapup video I think yep and we’ll talk about the pros and cons of our one month in Japan so far it’s been amazing for sure um but yeah we’ll talk about you know being out in the city being out in the country what we like didn’t like Foods we like Foods we didn’t like all that sort of stuff we cover it all that’s it how we get around um the mistakes we’ve made and things like that so yeah we’ll we’ll do a one month wrap up and take the lessons we’ve learned so far into the next two months but also just want to say that you know this has based on our experience so you know how we view it is not necessarily how everyone else will view it as well but it’s it’s our experience in in Japan so that’s take it with a grain of salt that’s it [Music] we’ve given up walking around towns where they’ve got bikes we take bikes so off we go [Music] we are here on Futaba Island just outside of the town so there’s this nice big long 200 M bridge that you cross to get out here and it’s part of the national park so so it’s protected you can’t ride your bikes out here so you’ve got to pay a 200 yen fee to walk across the bridge and then you come out here to the island where it’s got a bit of a tourist walk around there’s little beaches there is beautiful Forest beautiful scenery you’ve got great views of the islands and the waterways around here I think they recommend around an hour out here while you’re walking around and seeing the SS I think there’s some temples out here as well but really beautiful scenery and it’s very quiet like there’s not tourists I’m not being overrun or you know there’s you know no one here at the moment it’s just me and zoie super quiet but highly worth the uh $2 feet to walk across the [Music] bridge see one of the shrines here spee spee speech all right it is hot guys it is like a good 32 33° and the humidity is like through the roof sweating everywhere Relentless barely any Breeze we’re okay we’re surviving but it’s just such a pretty area I mean the Tide’s out right now so you can see like the you know the mud and stuff but the hills The Cliffs the garden the park like really nice out here so mat matsushima is definitely a must visit when you’re in the Sendai region it’s not too far it’s about 45 minutes on the train straight from the center of Sendai you can use the Seeker card so your IC card and that’s about $45 so 400 500 yen or so straight from the middle of Sendai so very easy to get to and it gets out of the crowds of the city which is something that we are very passionate about doing getting out of the Cities but I think we’re going to need to go and get some cool drinks or something to calm to cool down so this is the building you want to go into if you want to cross the fuk Caba bridge over to fuk Caba Island like I mentioned it is 200 yen to pay for the bridge to go across and you go in there there’s little ticket machine and lovely ladies are willing to help you so if you want to come and take a boat cruise around the islands which you can do here you want to go into this building here you got a few ticket Windows there that you can pay into and it takes you around all of the islands out there which I think would be really really nice to do we don’t have the budget for that today cuz obviously we are on cheap travel day but if you want to do it that is where you go and do it hi hi hi so these bikes were 600 Yen for 2 hours so probably one of the more expensive bikes that we’ve hired in Japan compared to the 200 yen ones in saporo and honestly unless you were going to go and ride around outside of the main town probably not worth it because to get across a bridge you obviously need to pay 200 y TI get across the bridge and you can’t take the bikes with you so you’re over there for an hour you only get the bikes for 2 hours so really probably not worth it so I think we’ll think about that next time we get it because $122 honestly was a little bit of a waste for us today we’re heading home now from matushima we spent about a good 3 3 and 1 half hours here riding around exploring walking around um we didn’t spend too much time in the town um we’ve been to lots of towns we just wanted to see the islands and the water and the natural formations and yeah I really liked it very cool very cool all right we’re heading back into sunai now for some lunch cuz it’s Budget Travel day and that means we got to find Budget eats and unfortunately we didn’t find any budget eats here apart from the convenience store so back to [Music] Sendai all right we are heading home now from to where where is this it’s to Shima or something that’s a shim
