ペダルを踏むたび、風が頬をかすめていく。世田谷の住宅街を縫うように流れる仙川沿いを、自転車でゆっくりと引き返す。道幅は狭く、すれ違う人に目をやりながら進むたび、都市の輪郭がやわらかくほどけていく。両岸に続く桜並木の幹には、リボンが巻かれていた。ひとつの季節を見届けてきた老木の証だろうか。右手の木々の奥に広がるのは、神社の跡地や古墳の痕跡。かつての祈りや暮らしの名残が、ひっそりとした空気の中に染み込んでいる。畑の土がまだ息づくこの土地で、都市の中心では見られない“東京のもう一つの顔”が、音もなく浮かび上がる。静けさの中にときおり混ざるのは、日本大学の構内から聞こえる学生たちの声。喧騒と沈黙のあわいにあるこの風景が、東京という街の奥行きを教えてくれる。日常の輪郭が滲んでいく道のりを、自転車で、ただまっすぐに。移ろう光と影の狭間で、いつか見た風景の記憶がそっと蘇る。
