🇯🇵 Cyling Fukui: Shizuhara to Waridani — Abandoned Village Search in Ikeda 志津原から割谷(廃村捜索) 2025 [4K]
This video documents a cycling journey from Shizuhara (志津原) toward the abandoned village of Waridani (割谷) in Ikeda, Fukui Prefecture (福井県池田町), filmed in June 2025. Despite heading deep into the mountains, few traces of the old settlement remained visible. Only a few landmarks were found: a small memorial monument for animal spirits (鳥獣供養碑—chōju kuyōhi), a simple shed, and a roadside Jizō (地蔵) statue (25:33).
At the trail entrance, it appears that roadwork has taken place, possibly updating the access path—this may have obscured additional village remnants. It’s clear we exited the village too early and likely missed more ruins deeper in. Despite this failed attempt to find the heart of Waridani, the modest markers discovered evoke the area’s vanished heritage. We will need to come back for a second attempt to push further up the mountain and uncover more.
