45 – BONJOUR LES CHUTES DU NAGARA : VOYAGE EN TRAIN ET EN VÉLO PLIANT BROMPTON = JOIE MAXIMUM 🚴|
Episode 45 – Taking the time to live on a Brompton folding bike
Hello Niagara Falls! Good morning friends! Did he fall? Ah, we’ll do the intro again, wait. Good morning, friends. Good morning from Toronto. We’re on our way to Union Station the station to take the train direction Niagara Falls heading to Niagara. It’s the first time for Marie I’ve never seen Niagara Falls. It’s going to be awesome! Friends, we are very well here. We have all the space in front of us, the little brommies, they’re over there. We’re on a train going to New York. We’re going just before Niagara Falls. We have small outlets, we have space. First time I’ve taken an Amtrack train, the American company and we stop in Saint Catharines It’s maybe 10km, 20km from Niagara. It’s 8:20 a.m. It takes 1h30 to get to just before Niagara. When we arrive, we are greeted by our friend Kevin who is going to show us around the region where he lives by bike. We’re not going to see Niagara Falls right away. We’re heading towards Niagara-on-the-Lake and there’s a bike path called the Niagara Recreation Trail And it’s very, very nice. That, my friends, is the big hydroelectric dam with the Niagara River below. And that’s the American side. There’s a reservoir behind it with a tributary. They really make the turbines work. The Niagara River, which is here, which flows into Lake Ontario, has its source in Lake Erie, which is about thirty kilometers higher. We made a quick bathroom stop. I validate the bathrooms in this park. I don’t know the name of the park but how was it for you? It was perfect. It was clean, it’s spotless. Me, when there’s a storm and I do camping I’m always close to the bathrooms because I know I can go sleep in the bathrooms if anything happens, I don’t give a damn, it’ll be clean. This is the little passage that will have to be climbed after. Yes! It’s good, okay! We’re still continuing on this beautiful bike path, it’s so cute. There are big houses in the area there in Niagara-on-the-Lake with vineyards too, so there we were talking about wine. So there we were talking about wine, very well known for these vineyards. Wow friends, what a day I tell you! For now, everything is going well, no problem with Chouchou, Lady, everything will be fine. Yeah, actually, you could you could go around the bike path and then go around the vineyards too. Do they give tours and all that? You have tours that are organized by bus. That’s what we did, it’s still cool
because you don’t drive your car all the day and it allows you to discover when as a tourist, you don’t know where to go. It allows you to discover quite a lot in a single day. Ah, it’s for sale! I’d be curious to know how much you don’t want to buy? It’s for sale here, friends. A little mini house to buy there, it’s nothing. Four bathrooms, ten bedrooms, come on. I’ll come and live with you if you want. And we’ll invite all the people we like. We have the wine route there, friends! Two Sisters Vineyard Two Sisters Ah, friends, we’re good. Oh là là là là là là là là! Oh! It’s beautiful and this so big well yes, friends, it’s a river, we don’t do things by halves here, it’s not a small stream. There are apples on the side, friends! Little family cycle path, we’re good there! They were both at the edge of the water eating their sandwiches. I love it. I feel lucky, I feel really privileged to to live all these moments really I don’t want to forget that I am privileged. and to be able to savor them, not to fall into the banality of something completely taken for granted. My last trips made me understand that it’s not all taken for granted. And there can be adventures along the way. So there you go, when there are positive things, I savor them. Thank you life. Thank you for this view, thank you for this moment. Thank you for Chouchou who’s holding up. My little Chouchou! We’re in the fields here, there. There, we’re more in the fort, Ah, we’re in the fort. But it’s crazy to see a fort like that, it’s incredible. In fact, they do historical reenactments here. Oh yeah. And I think this one is from the period. The drawbridge. Uh no! The drawbridge, she says the drawbridge, That we open the bridge! Ah, it’s a Parks Canada thing, actually. National Historic Site of Canada. Wait, but why did he take away my data? He told me I’m abroad. Ah damn there are times when you take the American network here. Ah ok. Fort George National Historic Site of Canada. the door let’s sound the bugle! The door, I told you. Ah yeah. It was the tour of the fort. I hope you enjoyed it! It was great! Friends, we just arrived in Niagara-on-the-Lake. which is a town 25 kilometers from Niagara Falls Do you think it’s people… There are some important people there apparently, but we don’t know who they are Who are you? People are well, they’re taking pictures. They’re sunbathing on the boats with their asses in the air. Well, there’s the mouth of the Niagara River and over there, it’s the United States. It’s an American fort. Niagara-on-the-Lake Usually, your ass hurts with this saddle after a while or is it okay? I never ride that long. We did 20km there? We did 20km, that’s already pretty much the maximum I usually do except that usually, I do it on the trail. Yes because this time it was on the road and
it’s not the same thing. For me it’s much easier. But isn’t it heavier when you’re on the road with a bike like that? It’s heavy just the same. The thing is that you dissipate your energy when you push on your pedal in the suspension. But these aren’t bikes made for pedaling anyway, they’re bikes made to absorb shocks. It’s harder to do 20 km in the forest because you avoid rocks, roots, it goes up, it goes down, it goes up, it goes down again.
You don’t really have a rhythm there, you ride, you put me on a solid ground on the flat, you find me in Toronto. It’s pleasant. It’s different, yes. First reaction, is that the handlebars seemed too small to me. But you do a few laps and you get used to it very quickly that’s for sure, that my handlebar is like that. The pedaling, do you find it different? The feeling? The gears, the gears. Yes, there, I haven’t understood everything yet, you don’t even notice that you have small wheels. Yes, yes. I’m surprised. The rating of the toilets? A good experience anyway. Out of 10? paper, it was clean, there’s water, soap, you can dry your hands with the scenery, 8 out of 10 Oh, not bad, not bad, honestly. Honestly yes, we’re in the middle of nowhere, you don’t expect a hotel toilet either Oh, I love it! I’ve known better in terms of cleanliness. Yeah, it was better at the Distillery. I’d say 5 out of 10. Oh really? Yeah or 6 out of 10. Yeah, the scenery 6.5 out of 10 7 out of 10 with the scenery? 6.9 out of 10. It’s nitpicking, it’s nitpicking. We have a climb there, friends You’re too far away, we can’t hear what you’re saying. Is it still going? Okay. We’re following you. Oh yes, it’s still going up! Bravo Chouchou, That’s the 39-tooth chainring there, we’re pedaling a bit in the semolina we’re going to split into two two, that’s definitely two. Come on come on come on Come on Are we almost there? Oh, magnificent aperitif! Aperitif! Bravo! I say bravo! Bravo! Congratulations! Thank you Archie, thank you Lady! Oh yes! Come on Kevin, come on Kevin, come on! Come on Kevin, come on Kevin! Wow! Congratulations! Congratulations! We did what 45km? Yes I’d say 45-46km. Friends, we are at Niagara Falls. There, we are at the top of the falls. Kevin dropped us off. He is so kind. We spent a day, we already did 45 kilometers by bike and there, he dropped us off by car so that we could see the falls because we were not far. So we saw Niagara-on-the-Lake and there we are at Niagara Falls, we are at the top of the falls so it is also so beautiful because there are not too many people and it is really I feel like I am a tour guide Yes, so on your left, you can admire the fabulous hotels of Niagara Falls. On your right, you can admire over there, there is a wreck Kevin, he says that it has been there for a hundred years and that it does not move it does not drift too much and they left it there. So it is still impressive! Over there, there are the United States Falls with the casino and all that. And there it is the Canadian side. It is crazy! We’re going to go ahead and see the falls from below. It’s going to be crazy! Friends, we’re at Niagara Falls! Look, it’s so beautiful! Friends, we’re back in Toronto. Welcome back to Toronto! We’re in Toronto. It’s another beautiful day. We’re going to see the Hall of Fame, so hockey. And that’s okay! Friends, we just took a walk in the Korean town so great, I love it. Too many Korean stores, too many restaurants. A big grocery store and we were wondering what we were going to eat. We have the little appetizer with sweet potato chips. We have the gimbap, we have the radish salad, little coffee cakes, we have everything we need and we have and we have the little dessert that I’m going to show you later. Small Korean bakery that makes street food like you find in Seoul. Look friends, they’re little Korean pancakes. There’s one with red beans and another with brown sugar. So Marie, you’re going to be able to taste this with red beans. It’s so good, it’s good you see, it’s not the pancakes we know, no, really not. Can we have some peace and quiet there? Here, friends, we’re going back to Pedaal,
the Brompton store and café. I wanted to show you their store and give you a little tour of the Brompton café with them. So here it is, I’m going to ask them if I can go and interview them so they can tell us about the Brompton café. Friends, we continue our little exploration of Toronto. Sometimes, we go there a little by eye, we just left the Pedaal cafe Brompton cafe in Toronto. We had a little interview with Eric. Always a very, very lovely welcome. Thanks to Tim, Archie was able to be repaired and now we continue our little exploration. We find the park we saw on Friday, we have a beautiful view here. It’s really great. Come on, a little break. Because there, in fact, is Billy Bishop, the airport and there are all the planes landing. It’s impressive. There’s the water and like there’s the runway. It’s so crazy! It must be crazy to land here. Incredible, really. We watch that, it’s a great occupation I think. It’s a regional airport. We must have a beautiful view of Toronto anyway (Quebec accent). Oh damn, there’s a plane! Go on, go on! But it’s a small one! Is it a seaplane? Is it going to land in the water? And there, and there, we’re holding the spot, we’re here for the show, we want views. And the little seaplane landing on the runway. Here we go! Aeronautics lesson for dummies It must be harder to land with the fact that it’s a seaplane. Why wasn’t it in the water? We would have liked that. Yes, yes he had, he had something underneath the container? What’s the name of the thing to land in the water? To make the float float? The float! Please excuse our lack of aeronautical vocabulary. Between the two of us, we’re going to start a small observation company spotting in Toronto, we’re going to give advice to people. Come to Coronation Park! If there are jobs at the control tower, you’d better not hire us you’ll laugh, but I can’t guarantee it will be completely safe. We just want to be with the binoculars and tell you where they are in the sky. Oh, there’s one on the right, watch out, it’s just to the left, and it looks like it’s at a 90-degree angle. Back home, heading to Montreal! We made it friends! Friends, that’s the end of this video. The end of this trip. I hope you had a good time with us. We certainly had a good time with us. Thank you also for lending me your Brompton so I could experience the Brompton family. It’s great! Friends, we’ll see you in the next episode and I’ll see you soon! Ciao! See you soon, bye!
