Deep Inside Sri Lanka’s Forgotten North 🇱🇰

In this video, I explore the unseen side of northern Sri Lanka — a region often overlooked by tourists who stick to the south coast. I kick things off by renting a motorbike, which is always the best way to get around in Asia. First stop: a highly rated spot for dosa and chai, before heading to Jaffna Market to browse, snack, and pick up a very juicy mango.

From there, I ride up to Point Pedro — the northernmost tip of the island — then make a spontaneous beach stop. I didn’t have trunks or a towel, but went for a dip anyway (rude not to). After a visit to a natural bath and a fried rice lunch at a local restaurant, I wrap up the day at Rio’s, home to the best ice cream in Jaffna.

    You cannot see India from that northern point. They say there was a way to walk to India at one time…or to get even closer to India and take a short boat ride to india.

    I would love to live near that bridge..it is so beautiful. Sad to see all that garbage!! I was just going to say SL is so clean compared to india…a lot better but could do better SL.

    In the market there is twi scams happened here. First fir the snacks he said 180. After you paid 200 he changed as 280. The second scam is one small mango is 500 is way too much high.

    are you going to Batticaloa? that's where my dad was born. it's in the eastern part of Sri Lanka. I never visited my mother's land but it would be great if you would!!!

    1st visit to PP was 1983 then I was one of the first into Jaffna, after the war ended, in 2010. Been back 3 times since, usually on the train, which is a blast.
    Hear to ice cream place near to Nallur Kovil. It’s owned by an old Jaffna family who still farm their own cows for milk. It’s packed, & rightly so. Superb!!!!

    Hey Hugh you should definitely go to Ella on the train from Colombo you should also go to ambulwewa while you are also in jaffna you should go to Uranai water springs and have a bath there the water there is naturally warm and it is nice to take a bath there but I haven’t been there for a while but yeah try these things

    Jaffna food is stuff like puttu and appam/idiyappam. Idly dosa are deffo better in India, you gotta try the srilankan foods. Also please try short eats like fish bun/patties, mutton rolls etc!
