Videolog of Bikepacking the Nakasendo in Japan
In April 2025, a small group from WCR Cyclist from Singapore flew to Japan to retrace the historic Nakensendo, a road from the Edo period that connected Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto. Parts of it are still recognisable today, and I deliberately planned the route to take small roads and avoid the highways. Japan is large, but we chose this route, especially because it leads away from the cities through the Japanese Alps. We planned to ride there during the cherry blossom season, hoping it wouldn’t be as hot then. That worked out, but not as expected.
