Slow 300km Ride Round Okinawa Island
Hello. Well, here we are in this rather fabulous hotel which has a bath right next to the bed, which is pretty weird, but um anyway, and it’s also got a pink chair. And the great thing about this hotel is that you get as much beer as you like. Right off to the other side. Haven’t really found any nice roads out of Yan. Didn’t really look that hard. I just want to get out and and over to the other side. There’s like military bases all over and you can’t can’t go through. Anyways, it’s probably the only way. Probably is. Got off that big road. Hopefully nicer roads for now. Okay, there is the sea on the other side of the island. There it is, the [Music] sea. Some kind of castle at the top of the hill there. That looks pretty uh interesting. Do like those trees. Jeez, what on earth has happened here? This house has been consumed by greenery. Jeez, look at that. I’ve never seen anything like it. That is actually a house covered in plants. End of a little peninsula. We’re going to get over to that island. Look up here. Beautiful flowers. Smells of cows everywhere. And they like their beef around here. Yeah. See what we can see. Oh, a nice beach. Some fishing fishing junk everywhere. Here we are. Well, um, where I was is called White Beach, and there’s a naval base there. White Beach. Naval base. And the castle we went by was um, Katsuren Castle Ruins. Right, let’s keep going. Dome planet, whatever that is. I want to live in a dome house. But the cars are very gracious here. They wait behind you, you know, try to push you off the road. The bridge over to Ike Island. And sure enough, they are kite boarding here. I haven’t seen kite boarding for a long time. I thought no one did it anymore, but here it is. And it looks like a perfect spot. It’s certainly a good wind today. Scary looking dudes. Yeah. Well, the wind is quite hard to go against Gale. Reminds me of Lake B. That water if the sun was out would be an absolutely beautiful blue. But unfortunately, it’s cloudy. Not looking good. Got to hope the sun comes out tomorrow. We’re on some tiny little island in between main island and island there. Like that’s the island over there. What is that? Anyway, this whole load of connected islands here. Still 10 km to go. It’s got lots of Yeah. Nice paintings of kids. Appears to be quite a popular place for cyclists. Look at the base. So, we can’t go in here. We’re at the bridge. And I think this is actually to bridge. So, maybe this is it. Wow. Nice little island. Oh, beautiful. This is more like it. Oh, this could be a big bloody hill down to get to it. Pay 500 yen to go to the beach. Cannot be a ride. I mean, I don’t want to go on the beach. I just want to go down ride round. Damn it. That is crap. What a crap. Waste of time coming down here. You’re on island, isn’t it? Maybe. See the only way of getting down there. bumped the TV over there. Wow, got the wind behind me now. Feels a lot better with the cliffs there. I think we need to go over that beach. Well, that’s it. Gayima all the way around it. And this is the nicest bit right at the beginning when you get off the bridge. Look at the archons. My beautiful bike. Unfortunately, the um spring has broken on this or fallen off or something. So, uh yeah, it doesn’t spring back now, but it seems to work. So, I’m just hoping I’ll get me home. It’s a long way home. But look at that. That’s beautiful down there. Really is. Look at this. It gets a bit warmer. That will be dog on heaven. Serious bloody tanks here. Huge. This goes on forever. Masses of tanks. Guess that’s for the military mainland. Food loads of them out there now. Must be 10 10 wind surfers. Service area for Get a restaurant if you want, but I am everyone. Do it again, mate. Do it again. Going to do a jump near the beach. And how’s he going to turn around? I think he’s just going in. No, no, no. Here we go. No, he’s just turning around. No jump. Weird weird looking creature. What the hell is that? Where’s the head? God, this strange toilet. Where have we go? Can’t find a toilet. Some kind of power station over there. That’s where I was that island over there. Look at this monster. What the hell is this? Wow. It’s quite impressive though, isn’t it? Actually, uh an uh power station. It’s an incredibly wide road. Such a small place. Pretty built up looking place we’re coming into here. We got in here. Well, you don’t often see graffiti in Japan, but uh quite a bit here. Obviously, a few Americans around. Oh dear. Yeah. Kind of refreshing in a way. Doesn’t feel like Japan sometimes. Look at that place over there. That is just wow, I think. And it is bit mildly bit of a dump. Not very pleasant, that’s for sure. There is a path but it’s really lumpy. Another fine tree. Lost a commute route. Now some bloody big road just turned into a fly over and the bike path disappeared underneath it and then couldn’t get back up again. Tried to find my way through these little roads. Got lost some kind of dam. We finally seem to be getting out of the Not yet, but okay. Well, I think we’re at last getting off that miserable road onto something a bit nicer. Well, it seems not over yet. Back up to the big ugly road again. It’s just a little interlude. Camp Schwab. It’s a camp. These guys must be bored shitless standing there like that. Holy moly. What’s going on [Applause] there? I think after a very long way. I mean, it’s 5:00 now. I left at 8:00 in the morning. Okay. I did go and check that island out, but it’s taken me this long to get here and it’s still a very long way to go to the top. Can we jo climb that peninsula? And then we’re back down into Higashashi, is it? Or Higgushi Beach. Coming up. Certainly a lot less traffic now. Not a lot coming up here. Gashi is nothing to write home about. Give that a miss, I think. Just going to keep going until I either find somewhere nice or if I don’t find anywhere nice, I’m just going to ride through the night. Keep going all the way slowly but surely. Ah, great. Some other cyclists at last. It’s good to see. Bloody hell. It’s [Music] 6:00. Actually, this is Hi, but everything is closed, of course, except the toilet. Look at that army trucks. Oh, jungle over there. Beach over there. Getting dark now. Well, I don’t know. Don’t feel like stopping and uh getting accommodation. I feel that just to keep going. Suddenly became all nice here. Light, man. Listen to those frogs. They’ve come out to party. Nothing but army trucks. I guess this might be the last video. I don’t see much now around here. I’m definitely in a sim. There only been 100 any cars since I’ve sat there having my dinner. As soon as I pull out, there’s one. Crazy. What the hell is that weird looking thing? Strange. I’ll tell you what, it’s a lot colder than it was when I slept in the hammock. There’s no way I can sleep in a hammock. It is cold, freezing. No way. Would not survive. I don’t know what temperature it is. It’s What is it? It’s uh 13. It’s freezing. The happened to the hot weather? God, this place is alive with animal sounds. Quite a climb up to 170 now. Good grief. What is this fancy looking place? garden hotel. That would be a good place to stay. We apparently these funny birds jump out. I think be careful. Bloody great windmills here. It’s very peaceful. All you can hear is the bike and the frogs. Sure, we won’t be able to see that, but the uh white waves in the moonlight all frothy and incredible. Never seen like that before. Don’t mind tunnels when there’s no one in them really. actually feels nice. I’m sure this won’t sure this won’t come out, but it’s beautiful. Some people think it’s still Christmas.
Route here in 2 parts. Started and finished in Yomitan. Missed out the busy Southern part.
