Japan’s Strict Laws That Shock Foreigners

  1. Since she lives in a rental house, I don't think she has anything to do with hammers and drills. She and her husband probably think they can park their vehicles wherever they want.

  2. I tend to agree with most of those rules. As a city dweller (NYC) in a small apartment building it’s very important to try and live peacefully with your neighbors. We have similar laws in NYC but they’re not strictly enforced and violence has occurred because of lax enforcement. About 2 or 3yrs ago a tenant shot a father and son due to ongoing noise complaints and nothing being done so the dude took matters into his own hands. I’ve had problems myself with a neighbor in my building and after calling the cops on numerous occasions I had to go to court to try and resolve this. So yeah I’m in agreement with most of those rules.

  3. As for bicycle parking, the reality is that most people ignore the "no bicycle parking" signs. They risk getting a fine or having their bicycle removed. Some areas in Tokyo are much stricter than others regarding these rules.

  4. The noise part for sure. Thinking of the guy across the street with the loud motorcycle at 5:30am every week day.

  5. Again with the lies. You do NOT need permission from neighbors for home repairs. You can hammer and drill away. If you are having major renovation done and scaffolding is required, people will usually notify the next door neighbors and apologize for any noise. But, permission is not needed.
Parking spaces an and parking lots are clearly marked for certain store use or private rented space. If you park in a space belonging to a home…of course no. Same anywhere. Street parking sometimes allowed. That’s why there are signs.
How many times are you going to repeat these lies?

  6. No I don't agree with such strict rules, but I'm not Japanese and I'm not in Japan so not my call or my problem.

  7. My old neighbors helped my mum with small house repairs … best neighbors =p

Nowadays, we don't talked to the next door … everyone is door shut tight and at most just a smile when met in the lift =|

  8. What is a "parking contract"?! Rules are okay and necessary for a functioning society- but not overregulations. As to minor repairs in your apartment or hammering to put up some shelves, that would be your personal thing. You don't need the permission of your neighbors! Where I live, no noise as from 11 o'clock at night. There are apartment blocks where tenants have assigned parking lots acc to your apartment number

  9. How to find parking areas for both two and four wheeler vehicle? Is there an official government app for real time update?

  10. Absolutely. In our country, people park their cars along the road wherever they like. Sometimes it's a problem to drive through the smaller streets in the evening. And then there are the electric scooters for hire, which irresponsible people leave standing anywhere after use, even in the middle of the pavement.
