Good morning. This is Naruta. It’s the final day of our Tohoku snowboarding trip. It looks like it didn’t snow much last night. It’s day six, so I’m totally out of energy, but I still want to end on a high note. I was planning to finally go to Appi Kogen Ski Resort today, but I gave up. From what I saw in reviews yesterday, the wind had blown away all the snow and it was icy, and the lifts weren’t even running due to strong winds. Also, Appi Kogen is really popular with foreigners, so even weekdays are crowded. It doesn’t sound like the conditions are good, so we’re heading back to Shimokura Ski Resort today. Apparently it kept snowing at Shimokura even after we left yesterday, so I’m hopeful. The wind seems weaker than yesterday, and the whiteout isn’t nearly as bad. We safely arrived at Shimokura Ski Resort. I quickly picked up my tree run armband and headed to the slopes. We’re going to “Drop,” the most fun spot from yesterday. There’s no fog today, so you can see the whole course clearly. It’s wide open and feels great. I didn’t notice it yesterday, but there are also some fun-looking terrain features. There are fewer people today, so it should be a relaxing ride. We’ve made it to the entrance of Drop. I hope the powder’s been reset. It’s totally reset. It’s the same deep, drowning-level powder as always. There’s no clear path into the course. I’ll just push my way in through the snow. There are no tracks at all, so I’ll need to be careful not to get stuck. Still no tracks in sight— this is tough. On the final day, with no energy left, this is brutal. There’s not enough slope and it’s too untouched— it’s actually a nightmare. The lift feels close, but it’s so far away. A skier carved out a line— thank you! I’ve made it back to the bottom of Lift 3. I’m wiped out. Partly because I got stuck, but mostly my legs are just done. Still, it was fun, so I’m going back to Drop. We’re back at the top of Drop. Still going strong! As always, it feels absolutely amazing. But my knees are definitely giving out. Tracks are gradually forming, making it easier to ride. You really shouldn’t be the first one into a tree run. I’m exhausted. Taking a short break. After that, I enjoyed my third and fourth runs. It’s the last day, so I’m going all out. While riding the lift and drying my goggles… My goggles broke. They’re double lenses to prevent fogging, and I usually detach them from the frame to dry them out. But somehow, my double lens split into two single lenses. They’re done for. So I’m heading down the mountain in sunglasses. Alright— My wife is off to ride Drop solo, and I’m heading down the course alone. Even the edges of the course still have untouched powder—it’s fun! I’m totally wiped, so it’s time for something sweet. We’ve come to an AEON near the hotel. We’re at Kikusuian. Speaking of Kikusuian— It’s the shop where Satoru Gojo from *Jujutsu Kaisen* bought “Kikufuku” in episode 1. I’m having a parfait topped with Kikufuku, also from Kikusuian. Kikufuku is a sweet made of mochi filled with cream—matcha, plain, zunda, and roasted tea flavors. I chose zunda cream, just like Gojo Satoru. It’s delicious. Kikusuian also has a cafe space, so you can eat in as well as buy souvenirs. They have lots of other tasty items too, so treat yourself. After that, we returned to the hotel and headed out for a walk, on our way to dinner. We’ll walk through town while heading to tonight’s dinner spot. There are still quite a few old buildings here. There’s even an old fire watchtower that’s now a café. You can really see the traces of the past all over. After walking for a while from the hotel, you’ll see a lovely red-brick building. It was originally the Morioka Bank, built in 1911. Later it was taken over by Iwate Bank and is still used as a branch today. It was designed by the renowned architects Tatsuno and Kasai, known for designing Tokyo Station. Doesn’t it have a bit of that Tokyo Station vibe? While part of it is still in use as a bank, you can also view the historical parts of the building. Some areas require a fee, but there’s a lot you can see for free. The architecture is detailed and beautiful. If you’re nearby, I definitely recommend checking it out. After exploring the town a bit more, we’ve arrived at tonight’s dinner spot. We’re having soba at “Chokurian.” We came for “Tachiko Soba,” but they were sold out for the day. I was planning to get tempura soba anyway, so I ordered that without issue. My wife got oyster soba instead. It was warm and tasty—perfect for a cold night. After eating, we walked to the shopping arcade to find tomorrow’s breakfast. The arcade has a stylish vibe. Some old buildings are still being used just as they were. This town really has a rich history. Apparently this arcade was started by a local kimono shop long ago. It’s been at the heart of the town since then. Now then— For dessert, I’m having an Imoten Parfait from Fukufukudo. Honestly, I just wanted the sweet potato tempura. But the parfait, with its mix of sweetness and savory batter, makes for a surprisingly good combo. Good morning. We couldn’t find a good breakfast yesterday, so we’re heading to a local morning spot. Since we’re just heading home today, we can take our time this morning. The morning spot we’re headed to specializes in rice balls—very Japanese breakfast. They open at 6 AM, so we’re aiming to arrive right at opening. It’s so quiet and peaceful in the early morning. The warm water really hits the spot. Traditional Japanese food is perfect for breakfast. Rice balls, fried chicken, miso soup, and bottled milk—looks delicious. After breakfast, we checked out of the hotel. Now we’re just heading home. Unlike the way here, we’re taking the ferry home. It’s an overnight ride from Sendai Port to Nagoya Port— super relaxing. We’ll drive straight to Sendai Port on the expressway, buy supplies, and then board. We stocked up on dinner and breakfast at AEON near the port, and now we’re grabbing udon at local chain “Soba no Kanda.” We’re also filling the car with local diesel from Sendai. All set and ready— let’s head to the ferry terminal. We finished check-in and got the car number placard. We attach it and wait to board. Boarding is finally starting. I usually ride a motorcycle, so this feels new. We got on board safely. Thanks to the heavy snow this year, we had great conditions and made amazing memories in Tohoku. After six full days of snowboarding, I’m exhausted— but my heart is happy. It was such a fun snowboarding trip. There are still so many places I haven’t explored yet, so I definitely want to come back again. I hope this video helped convey the joy of snow sports.
