The city is being developed to take advantage of its history as the largest coal town in Chikuho. The main factory and outlet store of Matsuo Seika, which manufactures Tyrol Chocolate, are located here in Tagawa City. We’re not going to Tyrol Chocolate today… The Yakiyama Bypass has been four-laned and tolled again from March 30, 2025. Instead of taking the bypass, head toward Iizuka on the mountain pass. Whoa? What’s that ???? He doesn’t seem to remember the route ahead very well…. From here, Hakatakko with a navigation system will lead the way. The navigation system will guide you to Route 201. We entered Tagawa City. We will have lunch at a coffee shop down the road. I think it’s around here. A little further? Here? The navigation system shows a little further… That place! The navigation system has been terminated… (laugh) We can go back to 201 through this bridge…. If I were alone, I would u-turn…. There are so many units… A safer way, even if it is a bit circuitous! If there was an accident or something, it would ruin the fun touring! We are back on Route 201. Retro coffee shop along Route 201 in Tagawa City. The restaurant was renovated by the son and daughter-in-law of the former owner who returned from Italy and took over the restaurant. I should have had a large serving…. Nice restaurant. I want to come back to eat there again. From here, go to the Coal Mine Museum, located about 10 minutes away. This is the site of the Mitsui Tagawa Mining Works’ Ita Shaft, which was the largest of its kind in Chikuho. Approximately 15,000 items in the collection are coal-related materials. Large machinery actually used in the coal mines and a restored coal mine house are also on display. Tagawa is said to be the birthplace of “Tankobushi,” and a stone monument of “Tankobushi” and a statue of a coal miner have been erected. A diorama of a coal mining site is displayed in the first exhibition room on the first floor to show the history of the coal industry at a glance. Large machinery that was actually used is displayed in the open-air exhibition area. There is also a steam locomotive that was active in the transportation of coal. A facility where coal mine housing has been restored to almost full size. This is a floor plan from the Showa period. I was surprised at how strangely realistic the dolls looked.(laugh) Put in gara. Coal was steamed and burned to remove smoke and odor, and was called “gara” and used as household fuel. Communal latrine. They were assigned to a duty and always cleaned up neatly. There were no ceramic toilets or flushing facilities, and the toilets were wooden-framed and pumped. This is a floor plan from the Meiji period. It is time to return to Fukuoka City. The facility is full of attractions, including one of the area’s largest direct sales of agricultural products, “Kahobei’s Kitchen,” a food court, and authentic Japanese restaurants. You can choose from black bean paste, white bean paste, or custard. Now, how to eat Taiyaki…. I’m going to bite into it! Delicious! This is… Fattening foods.(laugh) It is as beautiful as a clear stream and has a refreshing taste that makes you want to drink it swishily. A moderate saltiness tightens the sweetness, and the plump aroma of cherry blossoms spreads in the mouth. Kakinotane made with Niigata soy sauce.
