Located on the western shore of Lake Garda, Limone sul Garda is immersed in a lush Mediterranean landscape and is among the most admired and visited places of the lake by lovers of sport, relaxation and nature. The particularly mild climate throughout the year has made it famous for the production of citrus fruits, grown since 1700 in the typical lemon houses, still in operation and open to the public.

Limone sul Garda, a picturesque settlement on the western shore of Lake Garda, manages to surprise and fascinate in equal measure. With a population of just over a thousand inhabitants, this small Italian village attracts tens of thousands of visitors each year in search of an authentic corner of paradise.

Hidden between the steep cliffs of the Alps and the sparkling waters of the lake, Limone was, for centuries, isolated from the rest of the region. It was not until the 1930s that a road was built that facilitated car access, and since then, the community has transformed into an elite tourist destination, without losing its identity.

Limone sul Garda is famous not only for its dramatic landscapes and lush gardens, but also for the healthy lifestyle of its residents. In the 1970s, researchers discovered that some of its residents had a rare genetic mutation that gave them low cholesterol levels and remarkable longevity, attracting the interest of the scientific world.

Despite its name, which seems to refer directly to lemons, its origin comes from the Latin word limes – border. However, lemons have become the emblem of the town, grown in the famous limonaia – terraced gardens protected by walls and wooden structures, designed to protect the crops from the cold wind and winter frost. These historic greenhouses bear witness to an ingenious agriculture, adapted to a landscape that is not easy to master.

One aspect that brought Limone international fame is the discovery, in the 1970s, of a rare genetic mutation in some residents, which keeps their cholesterol levels low and protects their hearts from cardiovascular disease. The studies have aroused the interest of researchers from all over the world, and the community has become a special case in epidemiology.

In addition to scientific and historical attractions, Limone offers a spectacular natural setting. The narrow, flower-filled streets, pastel-colored buildings with wooden shutters and the chic harbor create a fairy-tale atmosphere. From here, mountain trails and the Ciclabile del Garda trail, a spectacular road suspended above the lake, considered one of the most impressive cycling routes in Europe, start.
