This is How South Africans Treat You 🇿🇦 vA 159

I ride with Ali, from Steinkopf to Springbok, in the Northern Cape, in South Africa.
Before leaving Hollywood lodge in Steinkopf, we take many pictures to remember the great time we had with Laetitia and Eugene, our great hosts in Steinkopf.
After we finally managed to leave Hollywood lodge, Ali and I have a very pleasant day on the road.
As we arrive in Springbok, Ali wants to do some groceries, and, surprisingly, a man comes to me just to give me money… mind boggling.
Everyone told me that South Africa is extremely dangerous, so far I receive the greatest welcome I ever received anywhere in the world.

The video finishes with a very funny bargaining scene as Ali tries to bargain for our room in Springbok.

  1. The hill shown in the drone footage from 08:05 till 08:10 is famously known as "Spitskop". People in the Namaqua region know it for being an indication that you are close to or entering Steinkopf when coming from Springbok's direction.

  2. I work with multiple South Africans. They are very generous. That is just how they are, they like supporting others and giving things to people. It isn’t just money or gifts…they will give their time or effort as well. It is a lovely culture.

  3. Looking back, the videos Yves shared, though filmed 3–4 months ago, initially made me feel like I was living the moment alongside him. However, I’m no longer sure I feel the same way about him now. While I understand his concerns about security and privacy, it might have been more transparent to disclose the timeframes of his journeys without revealing exact dates. The lack of clarity feels somewhat deceptive, and as a result, a bit of trust has been eroded.

  4. She's rich n i felt that. Money cant buy what she has. Cheap accommodation that houses people from all over the World. But this is us South African, we are so welcoming n love people, u hear stories until u get here. Thank u for showing our good hearts.

  5. Some great views. As you go down to the Cape it will become more and more beautiful! I highly recommend stopping through St Helena Bay, Paternoster, Saldanha, and Langebaan on the way down – it's some of the best ocean views and towns on the west coast of SA. Also South African's don't generally have a culture of negotiation, ha-ha, but it's worth a try I guess 😁 Anyway stay safe Yves, looking forward to the next episode!

  6. My friend that lives in the beautiful town of Yzerfontein on the west coast is visiting Springbok for a week as her family lives there. Pretty cool to see you stop there as well so i can see what it looks like haha. Would be awesome if you stop by Yzerfontein on your trip down to Cape Town, would definitely stick you for a beer and organize a place to stay over. Safe travels!

  7. Really nice to see you interacting with Ali and riding together in this beautiful part of the world. Conversation and laughter are addictive!
