  1. We've received some generous Super Thanks – thank you! Just a heads-up: YouTube takes a big cut of those. If you'd like to support us directly, we've set up a Buy Me a Coffee page: https://buymeacoffee.com/hellotnm

Of course, just watching, liking, and commenting means the world to us. Thanks for joining us on this journey! 🇹🇼❤"

  2. I'm Taiwanese currently living in Adelaide SA. I love your videos of the tour of Taiwan! I did it before moving to Australia and it was the best experience ever! I can't wait to see your videos of the east coast (Taitung, Hualien, and Yilan). The east coast is just stunning and I'm sure you'll love it.

  3. The locals probably said “Jia Yo” (加油)which translates literally as “add fuel”. This is a common expression in Chinese to encourage you to keep going, keep it up, don’t fall behind, etc. If you see fellow cyclists on the road you can say the same thing to them, and they’d probably respond in kind.

  4. I really hope you can go to Hualian! You can go to the highest in Taiwan (Wuling), which is a must-visit place around the island.

  5. You did a decent job pronunciation wise with the coffee! She just wanted to make sure you really wanted black coffee with no milk. With the small size, the person helping told her small size in Taiwanese instead of mandarin. As you go more south, more and more people especially the older generation only speak Taiwanese. They can understand Chinese, they just have their preference haha. They may speak and understand Japanese too!

One time I went to Taiwan with another fellow American Taiwanese friend. Her family was from Taipei and mine from Tainan. She could understand all the mandarin and English spoken in Taipei. But when we went to Tainan we had to reply on my Taiwanese with the older people.

It’s pretty funny with fruits in Taiwan. There’s certain ones that are so common where I live (tomatoes, strawberries, and apparently apples?), that I don’t think about it when I go to Taiwan that it’s not as common there. And therefore it’s super expensive. But what’s exotic here isn’t there, and it’s cheap and 10 times as delicious (lychees, wax apples, mangos, guava, etc)

Tainan traffic circles are something else. I have no idea how a 3-5 lane traffic circle works and is why I will never drive in Tainan haha

Can’t wait to see tomorrow’s video, Tainan is my family’s hometown!

  6. I was fortunate to enjoy Taiwan fresh fruit and vegetables for 50 years. When we have dumplings they always sell small vegetable dishes like picked cucumbers 泡黄瓜烤麸海蜇皮etc. You should try them. All are great. You should eat more of Taiwan great vegetables, rare in the West. And so cheap. Common in Taiwan. Every meal we have fresh fruit and vegetables.
