Cycling in Japanese Countryside, Tokigawa & a surprise Japanese Festival.
Cycling in Japanese Countryside, Tokigawa & a surprise Japanese Festival.
“Years ago, I struggled to keep up with the elite cyclists on these steep hills. Today, I’m back—still can’t keep up, but determined!
Stick around until the end for a special surprise: breathtaking footage of a traditional Japanese festival at a countryside temple!”
Jump ahead to 2:40 for the festival!
This ride brought me back to one of my toughest challenges—a hill climb through Tokigawa’s mandarin farm hills that I first tackled years ago with some fit cyclists, including Rides of Japan. Back then, I struggled to match their pace on these steep and winding roads. Now, I’m back, not quite as fit, but ready to take on the challenge once again!
Covering 57.5km and climbing 881m, the ride was as brutal as I remembered, but the sweeping views of the countryside made every tough moment worth it. And as the ride neared its end, I stumbled upon something truly special—a countryside temple preparing for a traditional festival, complete with evening fireworks. It’s some of my best footage, so be sure to watch until the end to experience this magical scene!

Good meters climbing for that distance mate. We have lots of farms and mountains down here too 🙂 not much else really…
