[ 2024 Shikoku 1000 ] [ 四国一周 ] [ Day 11 – Matsuyama to Imabari ] [ 松山至今治 ]

Riding distance: 60km Total distance: 842km

Today should be the easiest day of the trip. Even if I took a detour to visit the Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge Observation Deck and Imabari Castle, it was only 58km away. I originally planned to visit Saijo City, which was 20km from Imabari, but going to Kannonji City tomorrow became only 70km, which was a bit short, so it was better to stay in Imabari for a half-day rest today.

Since I did not need to set off too early, I didn’t off until almost 9am after breakfast and going out for a walk. After leaving Matsuyama, I turned onto National Highway 196 and rode. There was a lot of traffic, and most of the time I was riding on pedestrian roads. The road conditions were good. After about 20km, I turned towards the seaside. Soon I arrived at the only stamped route of the day, the Roadside station Kazahaya-no-sato Fuwari. Because it was still early, I took a short rest before setting off. There were only 40km left.

The condition of the country road along the seaside was relatively poor. There is almost no road shoulder on the seaside side, and the pedestrian road on the opposite side was poor. Fortunately, it was only about 10km before turning onto Prefectural Road No. 15. Although I passed some factories, at least both side of the road shoulders or sidewalks were in good condition.

I had lunch at a convenience store more than 40km away. After a few kilometers, I climbed up to the observation deck of Kurushima Kaikyo Bridge, and then took the stairs to the Itoyama Observation Deck. From this point of view, Shimakai Bridge was even more spectacular.

I started to go to Imabari downhill. First I checked in at Sunrise Itoyama, and then went to Imabari Castle along the seaside. This wa my third time coming to Imabari. The last two times I stayed in a hotel next to the pier, which was convenient for taking a boat to Okamura Island. The Imabari Ginza shopping street next to it was nearly deserted, with very few people.

I arrived at the hotel next to Imabari Station at 2:30pm. The hotel was bicycle-friendly. Bicycles could be placed in the lobby or pushed into certain rooms. Next to the hotel are the Shimanami Kaido Bike Rental Centre and Giant Bicycle Shop. In the evening, the hotel provided free alcoholic drink and beverages from 6 to 10pm.
