A day of a festival in a small castle town, Sagimai in Tsuwano 小さな城下町のあるお祭の日 in 津和野 鷺舞を地元の人のように楽しむ
Tsuwano is a small castle town located just over two hours by train or bus from Hiroshima.
It is a very small town, called “Little Kyoto” in the San’in region, and you can walk around the town on foot.
There, a ritual called the Sagimai (heron dance) is held every year on July 20 and 27 during the Gion Festival.
It is the only heron dance that has been dedicated for 400 years, and “Tsuwano no Sagimai” has recently been registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage as “Furyu Odori”.
This dance has been passed down by the local people as a prayer for protection against disease and epidemics and for conjugal harmony.
In its tiny Tsuwano, visitors can enjoy sake brewery tours, cooking local cuisine, yukata, taverns, snacks, tea ceremony, washi making, zazen, cycling, hiking, and more.

津和野は広島から電車やバスで2時間強のところにある小さな城下町です。
山陰の小京都と呼ばれるとても小さな町で、歩いて町を一周することができます。
そこでは毎年7月20日と27日の祇園祭に、鷺舞と呼ばれる神事が行われています。
400年前から奉納されている唯一の鷺舞で、「津和野の鷺舞」は近年、「風流踊り」としてユネスコ無形文化遺産に登録されました。
この踊りは、疫病除けや夫婦和合の祈願として地元の人々に受け継がれてきました。
その小さな津和野では酒蔵見学、郷土料理の調理、浴衣、居酒屋、スナック、茶道、和紙作り、坐禅、サイクリング、ハイキングなどが楽しめます。
