【歐兜邁繞富士山EP1】騎小Dio上日本國道一號 一路都是富士山!
(Keyboard typing sounds) Last year, I quit a pretty good job and then… I found myself on Mount Fuji. I’ve always wanted to travel in Japan for an extended period. Since I now have the opportunity, I want to travel more freely. So we had this idea of riding a small motorcycle around Japan. With the help of many people, this idea really became a reality. So, I’m really thankful for the help of my friends. As a result, we ended up in Japan buying a 110cc small motorcycle and rode for 80 days, covering many unplanned places. Along the way, I saw a lot of beautiful scenery and met many kind and interesting people, as well as cute dogs and cats. So after I came back, I wanted to make videos of these experiences one by one. It’s both a record and a way to share. In our 80-day journey, we spent 15 days riding around Mount Fuji. We originally planned to circle Mount Fuji 360 degrees, but in the end, as we were close to our return time, we didn’t complete the full 360 degrees. We missed the section called the Fuji Skyline. Even so, we still visited several places to appreciate Mount Fuji. So our first stop, let’s talk about the starting point of this Mount Fuji journey, Shizuoka City. Mount Fuji is located between Shizuoka Prefecture and Yamanashi Prefecture. The first place people usually visit is the Fuji Five Lakes, which are all in Yamanashi Prefecture. But in Shizuoka, you can view it across Suruga Bay. Therefore, you can see Mount Fuji with a sea view. Once you enter Shizuoka City, you can see the grand Mount Fuji. You can even see it while on the streets of the city. So our first stop today is Nihondaira Yume Terrace. I just said there were no cars at the foot of the mountain, but there are so many here. Hmm? Did I navigate to this place? So I can only park here? Yeah, I think so. Is there no parking for bikes? Oh, okay. Are you sure there’s no parking for bikes? Or is this person just parking randomly? Seems like there’s none. It seems like there’s no bike parking. Right? Then let’s park here. Okay. Nihondaira Yume Terrace is located on hills not far from the coast. The elevation is about 300 meters. in 1980. This place was selected as the number one tourist spot in Japan However, the observation deck is a new facility that was opened in 2018. The wooden building is the observation deck we are going to. Today, the wind speed is 1 kilometer per hour. Oh? 1 meter per second. This observation deck has three floors. The first floor has floor-to-ceiling windows, where you can sit and gaze at Mount Fuji and relax. Wow~~ The second floor has a scenic café facing Mount Fuji. It’s a pity we don’t have enough time today to sit and enjoy it. Then the third floor is the open-air observation deck where most people head straight to. (Nihondaira Yume Terrace is designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates) (using a large amount of wood from Shizuoka Prefecture.) (This open-air observation deck is an octagonal corridor) (where you can walk around and enjoy a 360-degree view.) (No entrance fee, open 24 hours.) From the observation deck, you can see the entire Mount Fuji across Shimizu Bay. If the weather is good, you can see Miho no Matsubara to the east, and the Izu Peninsula further away. To the west, you can see the Southern Alps of Japan and the Shizuoka cityscape. Since it’s a free facility, you can see mountains, the sea, and sunsets. In spring, there are cherry blossoms and plum blossoms. Nearby is the historic Kunozan Toshogu Shrine, making this a very popular spot near Shizuoka City. Honestly, here at Nihondaira, it’s not the most beautiful view of Mount Fuji we’ve seen. But the first impression it gives is still irreplaceable. Next, we are heading north to another place called Satta Pass to see a different view of Mount Fuji. Satta Pass may not be a very famous tourist spot, but we included it in our itinerary not only because it’s on the way, but also because we were attracted by a photo on Google Maps. (This photo is from the image gallery.) (Satta Pass, right in front, is the majestic Mount Fuji) (and the vast Suruga Bay.) (The most unique view is between the mountain and the sea,) (← where the Tōmei Expressway, National Route 1, and the Tōkaidō Main Line) (all wind through together.) (In the Edo period of Japan, Satta Pass) (was a mountain pass on the Tōkaidō.) (The image of the three routes intersecting) (cleverly continues the history of this place connecting Japan from north to south.) You picked such an obscure place. Where did you even find this spot? Just marked three points on the map. There are no tourists here. Everyone is at work at this time. Hehehe. (Navigation voice) This is definitely not an obscure spot. There are even toilets here. Yeah. Look, there are four or five cars. (Laughs) But later, I quickly realized that I was so fixated on this image that I forgot to do deeper research. We came to this… Satta place. Huh? The observation deck. We can’t go there. It’s because… Landslide. The walking trail, the hiking trail has collapsed. So part of the route is closed. Oh~~~~ When did it collapse… The collapsed area is about 10 meters west of the observation deck. So we can’t go. If you want to see it, you have to do it from this end. But you can’t enter here either. Neither side lets you in. Yeah. We can’t go to the observation deck. So we can only look from the parking lot. Yeah. Alright. Well… (it’s still okay). Because it’s blocked by trees, I can only see a bit of the road. But Mount Fuji is already quite big here. This makes me even more excited to see what the scenery will be like as we get closer to Mount Fuji. Even though we couldn’t go up to the observation deck, we still spent half an hour in this parking lot. We stayed until almost 2 o’clock. With only two and a half hours left until the sunset at 4:30, we have two more spots in Fuji City to visit. So we need to hurry up a bit. From here to Fuji City, along Japan National Route 1 by the coast. is the best route You may not always see the sea along the way, but Mount Fuji will always be in front of you. Asun’s 110cc small motorcycle carried us along the fast section of National Route 1, and Mount Fuji was always by our side. This moment felt truly amazing. After about half an hour of driving, we arrived at another obscure spot. You can see so clearly from here. Do you want to take a look? Yes~~ But you can’t go down from here. It’s okay, we can just stay here. Do you want to stop? Sure. I want to take a picture with Asun. It seems like there are fewer people on the road below. Oh~ I’ll go down, I’ll go down. Oh, okay. But we’re almost there. Yeah, that’s why I said we’re almost there. Okay, never mind, let’s go straight to the baseball field. This is near a baseball field by the Fuji Riverbed. The special thing about this place is that there are no obstructions around, so the view is very open. You can see the Tokaido Shinkansen speeding by with Mount Fuji in the background. But the downside is that the background is a somewhat cluttered vegetable garden. This section of the iron bridge doesn’t have concrete walls blocking the trains, and there are many train services, with almost one every 5 to 10 minutes. Sometimes, there are even trains passing in both directions. To see the Shinkansen and Mount Fuji, go a bit further east. At this spot, the view will be even better. And if you come in April, there might even be a sea of flowers to complement the scene. But since the parking lot of the next spot closes at 5 PM, we have to be mindful of the time. So, we didn’t go to the Higashi Civic Plaza, but instead aimed to reach the next destination before the sun sets, Tago-ura Seaside Park. We’re planning to see the night view of Mount Fuji there today. Wow, the sunset seen from the park’s parking lot is already so beautiful. And after we arrived, we realized that even if this parking lot closes at 5 PM, there are actually other places to park outside the park. So it seems like we didn’t need to worry about the closing time at all. Is there a spot for bikes? (Still looking for a bike parking spot🤣) I think we should park down there. Not here. If we park here, we need to come back before 5 PM. I don’t know where to park. There was a parking lot by the roadside earlier. Can we park there? I saw cars parked there. After finding a good spot to park outside, we’re heading to the park’s Fuji Dragon Tower to see the night view. (in poor physical condition, panting heavily) Wow! There are so many steps to climb. Climbing so many levels. Ah~ The view from here is like this. Still need to climb higher. Huh? There are inner and outer stairs What’s the difference? (Turns out there’s no difference) Let’s take a look… Tago-ura Port is the closest seaport to Mount Fuji. It is surrounded by Japan’s famous paper, food, and chemical factories. Tago-ura Port has become the port for these factories to transport raw materials. Tago-ura Seaside Park is located across from the industrial area. Facing Mount Fuji directly without any obstructions, from the observation deck in the park, you can see the entire Mount Fuji, the harbor, and the cityscape. I personally think the night view here is more beautiful than during the day. Especially the red and white chimneys with Mount Fuji as the background, the storage tanks, the large cargo ships, and other industrial area scenery. Compared to the usual bustling cityscape, it has a bit of a fantastical feeling. On one side, you can see Mount Fuji, and on the other side, wow! This sunset, the sunset over Suruga Bay, it’s really beautiful. Although it’s very cold, I still want to stay here and watch. Tonight, we are staying at Toyoko INN in Fuji City. We’ve been out all day, so we want to have a good dinner. We just found a Bronco Billy not far from the hotel. So let’s go there for steak tonight. Bronco Billy is a chain steakhouse in Japan. Their steak, I think, tastes very authentic. I highly recommend you try it. (Today’s ride distance: 72.4 kilometers) (Today’s expenses: All attractions were free) (Toyoko INN double room for one night: 8550 yen including tax) (Dinner: Bronco Billy for two: 5500 yen including tax) (Total: 14050 yen)
