新発見!?1700年代の力石!【力石日記12】
Yo! So I was riding my bike around and found this shrine, and I thought juuust maybe… I always think like this, but I thought maybe just maybe there’ll be a lifting stone. But this time there actually was! Well, probably! It looks like it has an engraving—well, it does, but I’m currently trying to decipher what it says. This is Akuto Shrine in Takatsuki City, Osaka. I just happened upon it and happened to find a stone with an engraving! And here it is. The shape is very much like a chikara ishi. It’s faint but you may be able to see that there is an engraving here. This is what I’m trying to decipher. This would probably be easier with paper and a pencil… Oh! I think it says “chikara ishi” here. Let’s see… Hou? Let’s see. These two characters together make “Houei”. Houei… three? Year three? Houei Year Three? I wonder what that is in the Western calendar years. Aaand… Hmm. What’s this here? It doesn’t look like a character, but it’s definitely engraved… Front? Shrine? Uhhh… Oh, village! And then “chikara ishi”. Houei Year Three. I wonder what that is in Western calendar years? I’ll look it up. And I’ll also ask the shrine workers if they have paper and a pencil. Got me some paper and a pencil. I’ll give this a shot. Well, I gave it a go, but the pictures I took first were actually easier to read. But I do believe it says “Houei Year Three” on the right side. I’m pretty sure the whole thing says “Houei Year Three – XX Village Chikara Ishi”. So yeah. Now that I’m pretty sure it’s a real historic lifting stone… I, of course, will have to lift it! Letting it dry off a bit. The mud on the bottom feels like it’s going to get all over me, so I’m going to let it dry a little before lifting it. But man is this a big discovery for me. I knew there were still a lot of undiscovered stones out there, but to find one so close to home— Well it’s not *that* close, but it’s in biking distance and it’s an undiscovered chikara ishi. I’m happy about it. Over the moon, really. So yeah I’ll give it a go as soon as it dries off a little. The size and shape make me think it’s about 100kg (220lbs) or so. But who knows. I’ll have to come back and weigh it. Yeeeah… OK here we go. The camera’s a little crooked, but you’ll have to forgive that. I did it! Yay. It’s reasonably heavy. Probably a little over 100kg (220lbs). I’ll have to come back today or… maybe tomorrow or the next day to weigh it. I kinda want to do it again while I’m here. Well, I’m happy. I actually lifted it three times. I haven’t weighed it yet, but I’m guessing a little over 100kg (220lbs). I figured I’d find an undiscovered stone someday… but for the first one to be from 1706 and even have an engraving… just wow. I asked the people here at the shrine, but they say there are no historical records of the stone here so no one knows anything about it… but it was all right there engraved on the stone. I’m happy about it. I’ll definitely have to come back to weigh it… Couldn’t wait, so… OK so I just sped back to my house—it’s about a 20-min bike ride one-way… and got my crane scale. Let’s weigh that stone! Let’s do iiit. Is everything in frame? Can you see this? 118.8kg (262lbs)! Just as I thought. A bit over 100kg (220lbs). The shape of this one makes it easy to lift if you put the heavy end on top. Let’s weigh it one more time. Wow. The exact same measurement—118.8kg (262lbs). I did it ooone more time and got 119.2kg (263lbs), so… Let’s call it 119-ish kg (262.5ish lbs) I guess. Aaand since I came all the way back, I guess I should lift it one more time. Tore me shorts. This is the third time it’s happened. OK now I’m really finished. Uh… Here at Akuto Shrine in Takatsuki City. I came here to the river to look for stones in the river. I was just looking for natural stones in the river—not historic lifting stones… but what I found instead was this great discovery! A historic chikara ishi from Houei Year Three, or 1706 in the Western calendar. Yay. OK… I’m really tired now, but I’ve still got a 20-minute bike ride home so off I go. I hope I can keep discovering undocumented stones all over the place! Yeah I’m really happy about this. How many times have I said that? Yeah. Anyway. Later!
