Hello, today I am here with the story of Honda Cub. When it comes to the best-selling and best-selling brand in the global motorcycle industry, the first thing that comes to mind is the Curve series. Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa can hide all wires and tubes under the seat. , I decided to design a motorcycle that was reliable, powerful, and could be ridden with one hand while holding a soba tray in the other hand. Maintenance was very simple as the engine could be removed by just unscrewing three bolts. That’s what the Super Cub C100 did. It was first introduced to the world in 1958. It gained popularity around the world, and was especially a big hit in developing Asian countries that escaped colonial occupation in the 1960s . Of course, it was active in all weathers, such as for inter-city travel and business commuting, and above all, it was a motorcycle that was exclusively for men. It can be said that the number one contributor to spreading the product to women is the Curve series. The Curve series, which surpassed 100 million units in cumulative sales in 2017 and 110 million units in 2022 , has 40,289 units reported in use and in operation in Korea as of the end of 2023. The figure is calculated based on aircraft registered with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, so it may actually be more. Giorno curves were excluded from the tally. Anyway, I was curious about how these great underbone bikes, which are said to move when you smell the oil and smell them, are distributed across the country. There are 7.85 Curves per 10,000 people. In terms of ownership ratio, Seoul ranked first among the 17 metropolitan governments in the country with about 13.5 vehicles per 10,000 people . Because it is a rural area, I thought so, but considering that Gwangju Metropolitan City ranked 15th, it seems that the Curve is an unpopular car model in the Honam area. There are 1,820 units of the high-end Curve C125 across the country. In fact, looking back, it seems that it has been less than 10 years since the Curve became very popular in Korea . In particular, before the COVID-19 pandemic, even when Honda Korea advertised in the Curve paper, it was used for business by small business owners. I remember that it was designed with the concept of a vehicle. It has only been within 10 years that it has become a fashion item for young people. In fact, the product with the largest number of models in the Curve series is the model code NBC110, which has been produced since 2013. It accounts for 89% of all Curves. That’s the level. How are the collateral curves that supported Korea’s industry solidly before the curve became popular ? are distributed? The collateral curve refers to the DH88, CITI100, the old Hyosung’s Midas series, and the KR Motors’ DD series, etc. It is a model that is still widely used as a riding bike. I guessed it, but I was really surprised to see the supply quantity. The CITI100 series alone is 269,194 units. There are 103,956 units of the CITI ACE series, and 30,943 units of the DH88, which has now become our ancestor, are still in active service . These three series released by Daelim alone exceed 404,000 units. Domestic production is a combination of models from former Hyosung and current KR Motors. The underbone series has a total of close to 442,000 units . It is 11 times the size of the Curve series. I feel that the potential of domestic underbones , which were successfully produced domestically a long time ago and have continued to exist until recently, is truly remarkable. The local government with the highest domestic underbone supply rate is Gyeongsangbuk- do, per 10,000 people. There are over 200 units. 2nd place is Jeonnam with 189 units per 10,000 people. 3rd place is Jeonbuk with 176 units. 4th and 5th place are Chungnam and Chungbuk.
