2024-02-10 Sata Cape / 意外と登った佐多岬ライド
Hi guys, this is Moto.
This is the third and final video of this trip back to Japan.
I went to Cape Sata along Kinko Bay.
Distance-wise, it was a 150km round trip, so it wasn’t a big deal,
but there was a surprising amount of elevation gain even though there were no mountains,
and the headwind on the way back was very tough.
When I came back to Japan, my sense of distance became strange, or rather,
I found that places that I used to think were far away weren’t far.
As I said in the previous video, the Osumi Peninsula is a rural area,
so getting supplies is difficult unless you’re on the main road.
There might be fewer stores than in the countryside of Vietnam.
In Vietnam, people live even in the countryside,
but because there are fewer residents, there are often no shops in the villages.
I knew this, but I had a hard time getting supplies this time as well.
When I enter Kanoya from Tarumizu and turn off National Route 220,
fewer convenience stores exist than expected.
Since it’s an area with a beach, I thought there would be at least a convenience store, but there aren’t any.
I finally found my first convenience store when I entered the former Onejime-cho, now Kinkocho.
I was caught off guard because I thought there were convenience stores everywhere in Japan.
Once there, we had food and drinks and headed further south.
I thought there would be no stores once I entered the former Sata-cho,
but the last convenience store I found was Nejime in Minami-Osumi-cho.
There was a meat shop in Sata Town that smelled nice, but I just passed by,
and later when I looked it up on Google Maps, I found a comment that the croquettes and fried chicken were the best,
so I decided to stop by and try it next time.
The road from Nejime to Sata was in good condition and was very easy to drive,
but there was a long tunnel along the way, and I thought it might be safer to take a detour.
The route to Cape Sata was very undulating, with lots of climbing and descending.
At the Tajiri fishing port in front of the cape, the sea was calm and the weather was warm and sunny, making me want to spend the day looking at the ocean.
When I arrived at the cape, there was a parking lot and tourist information center, but there was no convenience store, and by this point, I was starving.
The shop was selling frozen rice burgers, so I asked the staff and they would warm it up for me, so I bought it.
If I hadn’t been able to get a rice burger here, I might have been downed.
The road to the observatory was only for pedestrians and bicycles were not allowed,
so I ate a rice burger and took photos while looking at the lighthouse from the tourist information center.
I wanted to take lunch more slowly, but considering the headwind on the way back,
I’m afraid I won’t be able to get home until after sunset, so I leave Cape Sata early.
I was going to take the same road on my way home, so I decided to stop by a restaurant at the roadside station that I saw on the way there.
I thought I could get some food, but they told me that it was only open for lunchtime, so in the end, I couldn’t go into the restaurant and eat.
I went into the first convenience store and bought sandwiches.
I spoke in the Kagoshima dialect because I was from my hometown,
but the girl who worked there, who looked like a high school student, spoke in standard Japanese normally.
People who have lived in the countryside can only speak in the Kagoshima tones, so it was very shocking for me.
Since the high school has a strong cycling club, I thought she might be from another area of Japan.
I try to speak the Kagoshima dialect from now on, and even ordinary Japanese people wouldn’t be able to understand it.
Subtitles in Japanese are not included.
Did you hear and understand that?
I saw some language-wise Youtubers who are fluent in Japanese try to challenge the local dialects,
those who can understand my Kagoshima dialect script?
When it comes to dialect, it depends on the generation and region.
Even some Kagoshima people might be not able to understand it.
So, that’s it for this video.
Thank you for watching until the end.
See you again in the next video in Vietnam.
