【沖縄/黒島】南の島でボーッと過ごしたい人へ…日帰り厳禁!?島に癒されすぎて本気で帰りたくなくなったアラフォー女のひとり旅。
Hello! This is Suimie. On this trip, I will take a boat from Ishigaki Island in Okinawa Prefecture to the remote island of Kuroshima.
Board the boat bound for Kuroshima from this remote island terminal. The islands of the Yaeyama Islands
can be accessed from this remote island terminal.
A round-trip boat ticket costs 3,250 yen. Inside the remote island terminal,
there are various shops selling souvenirs, lunch boxes, swimwear, etc. In the morning, I have a snack that spikes my blood sugar level.
I bought a cake called Mocha from a sweets shop on Ishigaki Island called Naha Bakery
at the terminal shop. A simple coffee-flavored fluffy
sponge with cream inside. This cake has a nostalgic taste. It has become
my favorite sweets on Ishigaki Island.
Now that the ship’s departure time is approaching, I head to the pier.
It takes about 30 minutes to get from Ishigaki Island to Kuroshima. The ferry is a high-speed boat, so
I think it’s a quick voyage.
I handed my ticket to the person in charge at the entrance of the ship.
The interior of the ship looks like this, with three rows of seats lined up on both sides. The Departure was at 9:40am, but it was empty so I was able to sit by the window.
By the way, the timetable looks like this, and Kuroshima has fewer trains.
The ship started moving.
This time we are riding the Yaeyama Kanko Ferry, but there is also another ferry company called Anei Kanko, so
we recommend that you buy a ticket at the counter of the ferry company that runs the boat at the time you want to ride, depending on your convenience. .
The island you can see outside now is a reclaimed land, but
if you cross the bridge called Southern Gate Bridge, you will find a swimming beach near the city center, such as Painuhama Artificial Beach.
This artificial island
has a place where large cruise ships are moored, and
on days when cruise ships call at the port,
they can be clearly seen from the top of the slope or from the top of a tall building.
I’m planning on going to Kuroshima, but
I actually visited it once about 15 years ago.
My memories are vague, but I wonder what the scenery and unique atmosphere of that remote island will be like as time passes.
I’m really looking forward to it.
We arrived at Kuroshima. I’ll get off the ship and go.
A bicycle rental shop called "Macchan Oba" is located a short walk from the port.
The paint on the walls is cute!
I rented a bicycle. The price was 1,600 yen for one day rental.
The photo was taken in September 2023. It’s still hot, so water is essential.
Let’s start! I would like to go around the island in a counterclockwise direction
.
The camera position is strange.
Renting a bicycle is the perfect way to tour Kuroshima. Most of the roads are flat,
so it feels great to cycle around slowly.
Come to think of it, there were other
people who rented bicycles, but
they all seemed to be traveling alone.
Where did you go? It’s early.
It is said that Kuroshima has more cows than people.
The population is about 220 people and the number of cattle is about 3000.
3000 animals is a huge number.
The view of the ranch has continued from a while ago, but I can’t see anything other than the ranch at the moment.
The breeze from my bike and the smell of the plants are
indescribably comforting.
I don’t think this feeling has changed from 15 years ago.
A straight road. There’s no one but me.
I’ll take a detour here once. There seems to be something.
There is a mountain piled up with something like stones.
It says "Puzmari". This is a distant viewing platform that was used during the Ryukyu Kingdom era, and
it is said that it was used to monitor ships traveling on the sea at that time.
Let’s move deeper.
There was a beach. This is a place called Miyazato Coast.
The area under my feet looks like this, with rugged coral rocks.
If you look closely, you’ll see lots of tiny hermit crabs!
There is a path so I’ll go there.
What a nice place!
It’s like a private beach.
This is where I suddenly realized. It was in the information I saw beforehand, but don’t you think the rock in the back looks like something?
In fact, that rock is called "Cow Head Rock" because it looks like a cow. It was here.
There is a visitor center a little further from Puzumari.
Let’s take a look.
The visitor center is a facility that you can enter for free. You can learn a lot about
Kuroshima’s culture and customs . This is a god called "Miruku-sama".
The kuba plant supported the lives of people in ancient times. It seems that various things were handmade
, such as baskets and fans .This is a kettle made of conch shell. This is how I boiled the water.
There’s a theater here. If you have time,
you can take your time and appreciate it.
These peacocks have become wild and bred on Ishigaki Island and Kuro Island, causing a bit of a problem.
Habu is a venomous snake unique to Okinawa. You have to be careful in places like bushes.
Dangerous sea creatures! In the previous video, I encountered it at the sea. We also received a map here.
Local map information is valuable. Thank you for visiting the visitor center.
The air conditioning was working so I was able to cool down.
Now, let’s go to a place called Nakamoto Coast.
Speaking of peacocks,
I saw them all the time when I was cycling around Kuroshima 15 years ago. I haven’t encountered it yet this time, so maybe
the number has decreased?
Arrived at Nakamoto Beach.
Actually, I was thinking of going for a swim, but the store was supposed to be here, but
it was closed.
It says no swimming.
When I looked into it, I found out that the store will be open until the end of August.
It seems that there are many snorkeling accidents. Hmm, I guess I’ll just look at the ocean today.
I’ll go to the beach.
Some tourists came. It was a nice beach!
Now, let’s head towards the observation deck. Oh, Mr. Goat.
Is it a baby goat?
As I ride my bicycle, I
realize that the atmosphere of Kuroshima is truly unique.
A farm that stretches out forever, lush vegetation, blue skies, roads…
That’s all there is to it, but maybe it’s because you don’t pass many people, or
maybe it’s like being on a movie set…
I had
a strange thought: maybe it would be okay if I got trapped in this world and couldn’t get out.
I finally got to meet the cow up close.
It’s over there too.
I came to the Kuroshima Observatory.
I stopped my bike and climbed to the top of the observation deck.
Looks like the view is good here. It has a spiral staircase.
The island visible in the distance is Ishigaki Island, and
the smaller island is Kohama Island. And that big island is Iriomote Island.
I take a break in the shade. The sun is strong and it’s hot.
Hello
Ossu!
I received a cheerful greeting from a male island resident.
It’s almost lunch time so I’d like to go to the store. There should be a store soon.
I will have lunch here. This is a Yaeyama soba restaurant called “Undoya”.
The menu is simple.
I will order Yaeyama soba.
Yaeyama soba has arrived. The difference between Yaeyama soba and Okinawa soba is not only the thickness of the noodles, but
also the toppings on top. Yaeyama soba is made with thinly sliced pork and kamaboko.
Okinawa soba has three pieces of pork on top. My stomach is full.
The soup stock was very delicious to my taste!
I’m feeling exhausted from the heat, so can I take a break? When I asked the owner
, he told me that there was a second floor and I could relax there.
thank you! I had
a glass of water full of ice.
Cool down for a while.
There is a Utaki.
Utaki is a sacred place where worship and festivals are held.
I love how time passes slowly and leisurely.
I was able to take a good break! Start cycling again.
Lots of cows! Its body is black and the sunlight looks hot. Are you okay?
Humans
get really hot when they wear a black T-shirt under the scorching sun, but… It was too hot after all, so
I came to the visitor center to cool off.
I noticed something. I found the most realistic information! This is written by someone who has been
here . Apparently there are places where you can meet sea turtles, manta rays, and small sharks.
You have to go and see it! It’s called "Iko Pier". Okay, let’s go!
It kind of reminds me of summer vacation when I was in elementary school.
I rode my bike with friends in the neighborhood and went on adventures all over the place.
It’s even more fun because I don’t ride a bicycle in my daily life.
The pier looks like this.
This is Iko Pier. Maybe you can meet a sea turtle! ?
The tide level is going down quite a bit. This
may be a bit late in coming here.
This is what happens when you don’t plan properly.
The tide level is going down quite far.
I think I can walk to the other side.
I’ve been walking quite a bit. It is quite a distance to reach this pier.
So far, I haven’t seen anything that looks like a sea turtle.
I arrived at the very front of the pier. You can see that the sea is clear and beautiful.
I looked at the sea for a while, but there was no turtle.
When I returned from Pier City, I discovered this.
Marine garbage collection station.
It seems that stranded garbage is a problem on the Yaeyama Islands,
and local residents and volunteers are working to pick up the garbage, but the amount of stranded garbage
is so large that even if they collect it, they cannot collect it. It seems like it’s not in time.
It’s a great idea to pick up trash while sightseeing.
It makes a big difference whether you have a box like this or not.
After leaving Iko Pier, I came to a place called “Monument of Japan’s 100 Best Roads”.
This is the path. I think I’ll try riding my bicycle along the road from here.
This road is Japan’s southernmost prefectural road 213.
In 1985, it was selected as one of Japan’s 100 best roads.
At that time, the road was
not concrete, but gravel.
Straight roads, palm trees, power lines, and
lush pastures…
Looks like some drama is about to start.
It would be great
if my daily commute was like this.
As I was daydreaming like this,
the time to go home was approaching.
If you go a little further, you will be near the port.
There is one more place I would like to visit.
Finally, I arrived at a place called Nishihama.
a! A rainbow is appearing.
This is also a very beautiful place. The clear, blue sea stretches out everywhere.
The sunset can be seen beautifully from here.
I won’t be able to see the sunset this time because I have time for the boat.
The sea is breathtakingly beautiful.
I have to go home soon, but I’m really reluctant to
leave because I wanted to see this view for a long time.
I don’t want to go back (honestly).
Next time I come here, I definitely want to go swimming.
While I was thinking about various things,
I thought I should head towards the port
…that’s when! a! !
Even the one on the right!
Maybe it’s Mr. Sea Turtle! ?
I board the boat for the return trip, feeling a bit dazed.
I have mixed feelings about the joy of meeting what appears to be a sea turtle and
the sadness of having to leave Kuroshima. (I feel sad)
The return boat is on the 4:00 p.m. boat.
There may or may not be special flights depending on the season.
It’s best to always check the boat times. (The link to the shipping company is posted in the summary section)
How was your trip to Kuroshima? The next time I come to Kuroshima, I decided to stay overnight somewhere.
There are still some facilities and places I haven’t been to yet, so I’m looking forward to visiting them next time.
That’s all for this video.
Our trip to the Yaeyama Islands ends with this video. There are past videos about our trip to Ishigaki Island, so
if you are interested, please check them out. I would be happy if you could subscribe to the channel and
hit the good button.
Thank you for watching until the end!
