高縄山への車道ルートとして、３つのルートがあり、おのおの川を遡る形となっている。
九川を遡る九川ルートは、松山市東川から九川と横谷の境界になる石ヶ峠までを県道178号 湯山高縄北条線で進む。また県道178号 湯山高縄北条線は石ヶ峠から河野川をくだり、河野別府に至る河野ルートも形づくる。また、高縄山の北東を流れる立岩川に沿って、立岩米之野を縦断する形で市道 米之野高縄線が立岩ルートをなしている。
県道178号 湯山高縄北条線は昭和33年6月認定(松山市湯山東川－温泉郡北条町)され、松山市東川の国道317号交点から石ヶ峠(828m)を経由して河野府中の国道196号交点府中交差点を結ぶ20.8kmの一般県道である。この県道は、昭和3年9月認定の湯山北条停車場線がもとになっている。
