Yesterday was the first, cool, frosty day. It was -5°C outside. It was very cold in the morning. The puddles are frozen. The puddles were covered with ice. And a cool fog appeared. Fog is like milk* (*milk is thick, dense fog when visibility is less than 50 meters). Today is not -5°C.

In the city center around 0°C. The temperature on the river is most likely below 0°C. Very cold. I got ready at home very quickly (put on clothes) because I was afraid that the fog would begin to disappear very quickly. Wearing summer gloves. My hands are already frozen. Very cold.

And I put on summer sneakers – it was the wrong choice. I should have worn winter boots. When you accelerate (pick up high speed) on a bicycle, it becomes very cold and your fingers immediately freeze, because at high speed the very cold and humid air blows. Now I will ride my bike to

The pedestrian crossing and cross the road on foot at the zebra crossing. And I’ll go in the opposite direction. Because further on the fog will not be so beautiful and it will be difficult to take a video.

Therefore, I will go straight to microdistrict 203. There will be the most beauty (the most beautiful fog). The river is closer there. The fog there is always thicker than in the city. The other day I was mountain biking (Kona Operator DH 2011) in the hills – closing out the 2023 autumn cycling season.

When it was still dry autumn. When the sun was shining in the sky. This kind of weather will not happen again until next fall in 2024. So here it is. Mountain bike is cool. And mountain bike provides completely different opportunities. But!

I had only ridden 50 kilometers on my mountain bike and I was very tired and my leg muscles were hurting. On a gravel bike I would ride absolutely the same route in its entirety.

Yes! I would ride the gravel bike slower on some parts of the route, and on the brakes on some parts of the route. But on a gravel bike I would ride the entire route I rode on a mountain bike.

On descents from hills, I would ride a gravel bike slower than a mountain bike. Because a gravel bike does not have a suspension fork or rear shock absorber. But up the hills I would ride a gravel bike rather than walk.

And on a paved road, the speed on a gravel bike is much higher than on a mountain bike. I could ride the entire route on a gravel bike and I wouldn’t be tired after the ride. When I rode my gravel bike home, I could immediately start doing video editing work.

And after a mountain bike ride, my body was tired. That’s why mountain bike is fun and this type of bike is needed for some routes. But a mountain bike is crap when you compare a mountain bike to a gravel bike. I had no desire to buy a second mountain bike.

And many people who own one mountain bike don’t buy a second mountain bike. And people ride the mountain bike they already have. Regardless of what kind of mountain bike you already have at home. And people who find out what a gravel bike is. These people don’t limit themselves to just one gravel bike.

People who fall in love with gravel bike, after purchasing the first gravel bike, start thinking about buying a second gravel bike. It often happens that people who owned a mountain bike sold their mountain bike. And then we bought ourselves a gravel bike.

And after purchasing their first gravel bike, many people buy a second gravel bike and even a third gravel bike. Usually, the first gravel bike is needed so that the bike can be ridden over long distances for cycling (touring and bikepacking).

This is cycling over long distances at a comfortable speed (faster than mountain bikes). And the second gravel bike is a racing rocket. These racing gravel bikes often have carbon frames, with very lightweight carbon wheels. A racing rocket gives a very different feel to a long-distance gravel bike with a heavy load.

On a racing gravel bike you can save over 200-300 grams of weight just by using racing tires. I’ve already bought my second gravel bike. I haven’t done an unboxing of the gravel bike yet. My second gravel bike sits new in a box in the garage, waiting for my time to unpack the box.

So in 2024, Muzyka and I will be riding new lightweight gravel bikes. And our first gravel bikes (Author Ronin and Merida Silex) will remain as the main bikes for long-distance travel. Our new lightweight gravel bikes will be clutter-free. We will not attach luggage racks, fenders or other items to the frames.

These bikes will have the lightest tires. On slicks. The dimensions of slick tires are 700x32C. We will install the narrowest tires possible. And on the new gravel bikes we will simply enjoy riding at maximum speed, over short and medium distances. You can go to the river further away to Green Meadow.

Or rather, to the island of Khatystakh. The fog will be thicker there. I think I’ll shoot a video here in the fog first. Then I’ll go to the river. It’s even colder here than in the city. There is frost on the sand here. There is also frost on all the plants.

The temperature here is already below zero degrees Celsius. But not -5°C. But there is definitely -2-3°C. Everything was covered with moisture. The fog covered clothes and bicycle with a layer of water droplets. A layer of water drops on an action camera lens.

And all this is covered with a thin layer of water droplets. And the drops of water immediately freeze and the water turns into ice. I’ll stop now and show you this. Since it is foggy outside, all objects are covered with droplets of water. Since the temperature is below 0°C, the water freezes immediately.

And these drops of water have already turned into ice. Exactly the same natural effect with my action camera. There is an ice film on the camera lens. Therefore, nothing is visible through the camera lens (you have to frequently remove ice from the camera lens). Won’t it bite? What if I go?

No. No. The Samoyed will go nearby. Yes? Fine! Bow-wow! Woof! Come on in, don’t bother me. Very curious. Woof! Woof! Woof! Rrrrrrrrr! Woof! It doesn’t depend on how the dog is raised. Every dog ​​has two canine instincts, against which nothing can be done. A dog’s first instinct is to protect its owner.

This is always the case with a normal dog. A dog always protects its owner from strangers. A dog’s second instinct is to protect its territory. And the place where the dog walks is considered by the dog to be its territory. Especially if the dog constantly (often or every day) walks in this place.

Therefore, you need to be very careful with dogs. The Samoyed is a very beautiful dog. And this Samoyed did not attack me, as aggressive dogs that are not trained or raised incorrectly attack and bite. The water is still warm. And the air is very cold. Due to the difference in temperature, fog occurs.
